BMW Championship Preview and Best Bets – Ginger Joe’s Squad

The PGA Tour heads to Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis this week for the BMW Championship, and we have another seriously strong field to get stuck into. Bellerive is a long par 70 measuring 7,448 yards, with the setup putting a real emphasis on quality ball striking, particularly with the longer irons. The Bentgrass greens should also bring putting into play.

Scottie Scheffler is obviously going to be very hard to beat after completely running away with it last week, winning the St. Jude by eight shots. He is the man everyone has to get past again, and it won’t be easy. Rory McIlroy is a different story this week though, because his game looks a little lost at the moment. That makes him very difficult for me to back at the prices despite the drift.

I really want faders on my side this week, and I think I’ve found a couple genuine gems who fit the course nicely. More importantly, we’re getting good prices against the field, which makes both selections very appealing to me. I’ve gone with a two-man squad this week, and I really like the pair I’ve landed on.

As always, I hope you enjoy the preview, and don’t forget to sign up to The Sports Geek completely free for more golf previews, tips, and analysis throughout the season. Best of luck and gamble responsibly.

1. Viktor Hovland (Best Price +2500)

I definitely prefer a player who fades the ball this week, and Viktor Hovland is starting to show glimpses of his peak form, which makes him very interesting for me.

A couple of years ago, outside of Rory and Scottie, Viktor was the player who looked most likely to join them at the very top of the game. However, after becoming too obsessed with his own swing and the technical side of things, I think he lost a lot of his natural playing ability by simply overthinking everything.

I have seen that starting to change recently though, and his game is absolutely heading back in the right direction. His iron play is coming back towards peak form, and that is something everyone needs to be wary of.

For those who have followed my content for a long time, you will remember me saying that there are only two or three players who actually have a similar tee-to-green shot shape, trajectory and spin rates to Scottie Scheffler. Viktor Hovland is one of them. At one point, he was striking his irons as pure as anyone in the world, and he flew up the rankings because of it.

I genuinely believe we are starting to see that version of Viktor again, so don’t be surprised to see him put up a excellent number this week. Knocking Scottie off top spot won’t be easy, but between Wyndham and Viktor, we have two very good course fits and two players who we know are capable of winning the biggest events. Quietly confident about the pair this week.

2. Wyndham Clark (Best Price +3000)

Wyndham Clark is a player who looks fantastic value to me this week. There are a bunch of players towards the top of the market who are half his price, but they simply don’t have the credentials Wyndham has, with two Major championships already to his name.

Outside of the Majors, he has played really well too, and he has two titles this season to go with the three he had won prior to this campaign. He is a player I’ve highlighted a lot this season. He won in 2023 and 2024, had a difficult season in 2025 as he looked to develop his game further, and has come back this season and won twice, which includes his second US Open. Furthermore, he is a class act, and I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be going close this week.

Ludvig Åberg, Sam Burns and others who aren’t Major winners are much shorter in the betting, and I don’t think that’s quite right. Wyndham should be nearer the 20/1–22/1 mark for me, so I think we’re getting a really nice price here. He has an outstanding chance if he brings his best form, and one of a handful of payers that I think can compete with Scottie if he brings his A game.

He is a fader from tee to green, very good around the greens, and solid enough with the flat stick. It’s not hard to see why this man has already won two Major championships. Game as they come, and one of the better value players this week for sure!

Before moving into the industry, I competed as a professional golfer on several mini tours across the UK, giving me a unique tipping perspective that differs from many analysts and tipsters. My playing experience allows me to assess golfers in a different way, focusing on course fit, player traits and other key intricate factors rather than relying solely on statistics. It is a selection process that has served me well over the years. Originally from Cheltenham, the home of National Hunt racing, horse racing has been a lifelong passion of mine. Alongside golf, I have enjoyed success as both a racing pundit and tipster, and have featured in multiple Meet The Punter interview series. Really looking forward to my journey with The Sports Geek.
