Our NRFI Picks for July 9 (With Reasoning)
After going through the latest no runs first inning odds, we believe these are the best NRFI bets today, July 9.
Kansas City Royals vs. New York Mets
The Royals and Mets profile as one of the top NRFI picks on today’s slate, with Michael Wacha and Sean Manaea well-positioned to deliver a scoreless opening frame at Citi Field.
Wacha continues to provide Kansas City with steady production, carrying a 3.45 ERA and 1.16 WHIP into this matchup. The veteran right-hander has been in solid form, allowing just one earned run in two of his last three starts while consistently working through opposing lineups early in games.

The Mets’ offense has struggled to generate quick starts all season, ranking 23rd in MLB with just 0.50 runs per 1st inning, which further strengthens Wacha’s outlook.
Manaea’s 5.16 ERA doesn’t accurately reflect how well he’s been pitching lately. Outside of a few rough outings that inflated his season numbers, the left-hander has been remarkably consistent, allowing two or fewer earned runs in 10 of his last 12 appearances.
With Wacha’s consistency, Manaea’s recent improvement, and the Mets’ lack of early offense, this matchup shapes up as one of the best NRFI bets today.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. St. Louis Cardinals
The Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals stand out as one of the top NRFI best bets on today’s board with two starters carrying strong recent form into the matchup.
Logan Henderson returns from a minor back injury after an impressive start to his rookie campaign. He owns a 2.74 ERA and 1.04 WHIP, and he has yet to allow more than two earned runs in any of his five starts this season. Henderson has shown excellent poise early in games, making him a strong candidate to navigate the opening frame.

St. Louis counters with Andre Pallante, who enters with a 3.60 ERA and 1.22 WHIP through 17 starts. Pallante has been one of the Cardinals’ steadiest arms lately, allowing two or fewer earned runs in five of his last six outings while consistently keeping traffic off the bases.
With Henderson picking up where he left off and Pallante continuing his strong stretch, this matchup is one of the best NRFI props today.
Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers
The Angels and Rangers stand out as one of the best NRFI bets today behind a pair of experienced starters.
Reid Detmers has posted a 4.13 ERA and 1.11 WHIP this season, but his history against Texas is even more impressive. Current Rangers hitters are batting just .059 against the left-hander in 51 career at-bats, highlighting his ability to neutralize this lineup.
Detmers has also been effective recently, allowing two or fewer earned runs in seven of his previous 11 starts. Texas counters with Nathan Eovaldi, who has bounced back after a slow start to the campaign. Eovaldi owns a 4.02 ERA and 1.17 WHIP through 17 appearances and has surrendered three or fewer earned runs in four consecutive outings.

Both pitchers have found consistency in recent weeks and should be well-equipped to navigate the heart of each lineup in the opening frame. With two dependable veterans on the mound, expect a scoreless first inning in Texas.
Our Daily No Runs First Inning Bets Strategy
We provide our reasoning for all daily NRFI picks, but we also want to share our general strategy for these bets. Learning how to approach the market can help you conduct your own predictions!
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to uncover good NRFI bets every day! We repeat the process for all games on the selected day and share the picks that come out on top on this page, using odds from the top MLB betting sites.
1. Check The Starting Lineups, Especially The Pitchers
You should always begin with the lineups. Check who the starting pitchers are and then go through the latest injuries and suspensions to see whether any of the teams will be missing key pieces.
We usually go to the CBS’ MLB injury report to see who’s out and who’s doubtful. They pull the data directly from league reports, so it’s trustworthy information.
2. Analyzing NRFI Stats
Once we know the most likely lineups, it’s time for a key step of our NRFI betting strategy: analyzing numbers. You need to go through various data points to determine how likely is for the opening inning of a game to end without any runs.
We explore the individual stats of the starting pitchers, we analyze the offensive numbers of both sides, and we also take a look at the total team stats for first inning runs.
Once we have a complete overview of what’s going on, we create our own estimates (in percentages) of how likely it is to see no runs in the first inning.
After that, it’s time to check the odds!
3. Line Shopping
It’s time to check some betting odds! We use two bookmakers that offer daily NRFI betting odds for the MLB: Bovada and Lucky Rebel. We check their prices for all games and turn them into probabilities.
We compare them to our own estimates and when we see good betting value, we place our NRFI wagers!
We strongly recommend using multiple top betting sites yourself for the best results. The two we highlighted above are all excellent for no runs first inning bets.
We might add more options in the future, but we want to keep it manageable for readers who follow us for now. If you join any of them, you should know the market is called “Will there be a run in the first inning?” at both bookies.
