Our NRFI Picks for April 30 (With Reasoning)
After going through the latest no runs inning odds, we believe these are the best NRFI bets today, April 30.
San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres
The Giants and Padres meet for the second matchup in this two-game series at Petco Park. Michael King is slated to receive the starting call for the Padres on Wednesday night. The road club is expected to counter with first-year starter Landen Roupp on the bump.
King has developed into the ace of the club of a stout rotation in San Diego. With the second-best fWAR in the Majors, the Padres’ pitching is in great shape. He heads into tonight with an ERA of 2.18 and a 1.06 WHIP through 33 innings of work this season.

The 29-year-old Rochester, NY, native yielded no earned runs on the bump in three of his last five starts. Look for King to work his way through a Giants’ lineup, hitting .210 in 62 at-bats against him.
Roupp should work through the opening frame as well. He currently owns a 4.56 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 25.2 frames. The 26-year-old, who primarily worked out of the bullpen in his first year, has largely been in command. Roupp has allowed three or fewer earned runs in all but one start this season.
In short, the Giants vs. Padres matchup is one of the best NRFI bets on Wednesday’s card!
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Chicago White Sox
The Brewers are in Chicago for a three-game interleague series versus the White Sox. Tobias Myers is expected to make his second start of the season after a solid 2025 debut against the Giants. He allowed four hits and two earned runs across four innings on the hill.
Myers was in good form in his first season, as he finished with a 3.00 ERA and 1.17 WHIP through 27 games. I’m confident that Myers will make it past the struggling White Sox offense tonight. The White Sox are 26th in the Major Leagues, with 3.39 runs per game.
Look for Myers to handle his night at the office, while Shane Smith is likely to do his part as well. The pitcher enters Wednesday with an ERA of 2.30 and a 0.95 WHIP across five appearances. The rookie is in top form and pitching like an experienced veteran.

Smith has allowed two or fewer earned runs in four of five performances in 2025. He’s in a good place right now, and I expect him to have success on his home mound against the Brew Crew. Overall, consider playing the NRFI today at Rate Field in Chicago!
Athletics vs. Texas Rangers
For the last of our NRFI picks today, the Athletics and Rangers should go to the top of the 2nd scoreless. The Athletics send former Yankee, Luis Severino, to the mound for Wednesday’s assignment at Globe Life Field.
Severino has been in solid form after a rocky start this season. The 31-year-old allowed five earned runs in two of his first three starts. He’s stabilized, though, with a 3.49 ERA and 1.09 WHIP after yielding one run in two of his previous three outings.
Additionally, Severino has held up much better on the road, where he owns a 0.64 ERA and 0.71 WHIP. Look for the pitcher to do his job to open this matchup in Arlington. Likewise, Nathan Eovaldi should manage to do the same versus the A’s.
Eovaldi has held this A’s lineup to a .235 batting average and two home runs through 85 at-bats. Overall, he posted an ERA of 2.21 and a 0.74 WHIP across 36.2 innings heading into tonight’s assignment.

Earlier this season, Eovaldi joined an exclusive club known as the “Maddux”. More recently, He’s coming off a lights-out effort, with no runs and three hits allowed in six innings.
I’m on this wager for one of my best NRFI prop bets tonight!
Our Daily No Runs First Inning Bets Strategy
We provide our reasoning for all daily NRFI picks, but we also want to share our general strategy for these bets. Learning how to approach the market can help you conduct your own predictions!
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to uncover good NRFI bets every day! We repeat the process for all games on the selected day and share the picks that come out on top on this page.
1. Check The Starting Lineups, Especially The Pitchers
You should always begin with the lineups. Check who the starting pitchers are and then go through the latest injuries and suspensions to see whether any of the teams will be missing key pieces.
We usually go to the CBS’ MLB injury report to see who’s out and who’s doubtful. They pull the data directly from league reports, so it’s trustworthy information.
2. Analyzing NRFI Stats
Once we know the most likely lineups, it’s time for a key step of our NRFI betting strategy: analyzing numbers. You need to go through various data points to determine how likely is for the opening inning of a game to end without any runs.
We explore the individual stats of the starting pitchers, we analyze the offensive numbers of both sides, and we also take a look at the total team stats for first inning runs.
Once we have a complete overview of what’s going on, we create our own estimates (in percentages) of how likely it is to see no runs in the first inning.
After that, it’s time to check the odds!
3. Line Shopping
It’s time to check some betting odds! We use two bookmakers that offer daily NRFI betting odds for the MLB: Bovada and BetWhale. We check their prices for all games and turn them into probabilities.
We compare them to our own estimates and when we see good betting value, we place our NRFI wagers!
We strongly recommend using multiple top betting sites yourself for the best results. The two we highlighted above are all excellent for no runs first inning bets.
We might add more options in the future, but we want to keep it manageable for readers who follow us for now. If you join any of them, you should know the market is called “Will there be a run in the first inning?” at both bookies.
