Our NRFI Picks for March 27 (With Reasoning)
After going through the latest no runs inning odds, we believe these are the best NRFI bets today, March 27.
Atlanta Braves vs. San Diego Padres
It’s MLB Opening Day, which means we have a full slate of NRFI bets today! After having huge success with our no run first inning picks last year, we’re back looking for more cash.
The Braves vs. Padres matchup this afternoon at Petco Park is a solid play after going 2-0 in the Tokyo Series in Japan. We have a pitcher’s duel shaping up between Chris Sale and Michael King are scheduled to receive the starting call on the bump.
Sale captured the 2024 NL Cy Young with a 2.38 ERA and 1.01 WHIP last season. The 35-year-old Florida native has posted an ERA of 3.16 or lower in three of the previous four seasons. By all indications, Sale is ready to roll after a strong spring season campaign.

The Padres counter with King at Petco Park on Opening Day. He is one of the most underrated pitchers in baseball, and I expect him to have a strong start, too. King has logged an ERA of 2.95 or lower in three consecutive seasons as a reliever and starter.
In his first year as a starting hurler, King notched a 2.95 ERA and 1.19 WHIP through 31 appearances. The pitcher’s friendly Petco Park certainly helps out, and it should today for both Sale and King! Consider this pick for one of your NRFI best bets on Opening Day.
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Miami Marlins
The Paul Skenes experience begins on Opening Day against the Miami Marlins! Skenes will aim to build on an unbelievable rookie campaign in what should be an easy assignment versus the Marlins on Thursday.
Skenes finished with an ERA of 1.96 and a 0.95 WHIP in what could have been a Cy Young season. However, he didn’t play in enough games after debuting in May. This year, though, under a full workload, Skenes is the favorite to win the NL Cy Young.

He’s added a couple of new pitches to his arsenal and could even be stronger than last year! Look for Skenes to chew up a weak Marlins’ rotation out of the gate in the opening frame. Conversely, Marlins’ starter Sandy Alcántara should make it out of the 1st inning unscathed.
The pitcher missed all of last season, but was closing in on the Cy Young in 2023. He can pitch and was unhittable in spring training. Alcántara posted an ERA of 0.00 and a 0.97 WHIP in 12.1 innings.
Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Detroit Tigers are on the West Coast to open their 2025 campaign against the LA Dodgers. This is a great pitching matchup between two of the very best in Major League Baseball.
Tarik Skubal gets the call on Opening Day for the Tigers at Dodger Stadium. Skubal is coming off a Cy Young season in Detroit, as he notched a 2.39 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 2024. It’s the second straight season Skubal has posted at least a 2.80 ERA.

Countering for the Dodgers is another Cy Young winner. Blake Snell won the award two years ago with the Padres. He produced an ERA of 2.55 and a 1.19 WHIP through 32 starts. Snell lasted just one season in San Diego, but was solid with a 3.12 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 19 appearances.
Look for Skubal and Snell to make easy work of the opening frame, so consider the Tigers vs. Dodgers for your best NRFI picks!
Our Daily No Runs First Inning Bets Strategy
We provide our reasoning for all daily NRFI picks, but we also want to share our general strategy for these bets. Learning how to approach the market can help you conduct your own predictions!
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to uncover good NRFI bets every day! We repeat the process for all games on the selected day and share the picks that come out on top on this page.
1. Check The Starting Lineups, Especially The Pitchers
You should always begin with the lineups. Check who the starting pitchers are and then go through the latest injuries and suspensions to see whether any of the teams will be missing key pieces.
We usually go to the CBS’ MLB injury report to see who’s out and who’s doubtful. They pull the data directly from league reports, so it’s trustworthy information.
2. Analyzing NRFI Stats
Once we know the most likely lineups, it’s time for a key step of our NRFI betting strategy: analyzing numbers. You need to go through various data points to determine how likely is for the opening inning of a game to end without any runs.
We explore the individual stats of the starting pitchers, we analyze the offensive numbers of both sides, and we also take a look at the total team stats for first inning runs.
Once we have a complete overview of what’s going on, we create our own estimates (in percentages) of how likely it is to see no runs in the first inning.
After that, it’s time to check the odds!
3. Line Shopping
It’s time to check some betting odds! We use two bookmakers that offer daily NRFI betting odds for the MLB: Bovada and BetWhale. We check their prices for all games and turn them into probabilities.
We compare them to our own estimates and when we see good betting value, we place our NRFI wagers!
We strongly recommend using multiple top betting sites yourself for the best results. The two we highlighted above are all excellent for no runs first inning bets.
We might add more options in the future, but we want to keep it manageable for readers who follow us for now. If you join any of them, you should know the market is called “Will there be a run in the first inning?” at both bookies.
