AL Rookie of the Year Odds

Kevin McGonigle (-750) is now the overwhelming favorite to win AL Rookie of the Year, carrying an implied probability of 88.2%. The Detroit Tigers’ shortstop has separated himself from the field, with no other player priced anywhere close to him.

Parker Messick (+500) is a distant second at an implied 16.7% probability, while Boston Red Sox prospect Payton Tolle (+7000) sits well back at just 1.4%.

Tristan Peters (+10000) follows at 1.0%, with Toronto Blue Jays’ prospect Kazuma Okamoto (+12500) and Chicago White Sox third baseman Munetaka Murakami (+12500) both carrying implied probabilities of just 0.8%.

With McGonigle now priced at -750, the AL Rookie of the Year market has become heavily one-sided, leaving Messick as the only remotely close challenger on the current board.

NL Rookie of the Year Odds

Cincinnati Reds’ first baseman Sal Stewart (-2500) has emerged as the overwhelming favorite to win NL Rookie of the Year, carrying an implied probability of 96.2%. His price has shortened dramatically, putting him well ahead of the rest of the field in the latest MLB Rookie of the Year odds.

New York Mets’ pitcher Nolan McLean (+1100) is a distant second at 8.3%, while St. Louis Cardinals shortstop JJ Wetherholt (+4000) follows at just 2.4%. Mets prospect Carson Benge (+6000) and Colorado Rockies’ prospect T.J. Rumfield (+6000) round out the top five, with both sitting at an implied 1.6% chance.

The market has quickly become a two-horse conversation at the top, but Stewart has created massive separation at the best MLB betting sites. At -2500, the Reds rookie is now priced like a near-lock, while bettors looking for value must go much further down the board to find a realistic rival.

Kevin McGonigle (-750)

McGonigle has transformed the AL Rookie of the Year race into a one-man show, and the Detroit Tigers infielder is now priced at -750 for good reason. His combination of offensive production, defensive versatility and overall impact has separated him from the rest of the rookie class.

McGonigle has posted a .272/.371/.417 slash line with 17 home runs, 63 RBIs, 91 runs and 12 stolen bases. More importantly, that all-around production has translated into an impressive 6.1 WAR, which leads all MLB rookies. He has already produced at an All-Star level, and his 121 OPS+ shows that he’s been significantly better than the league-average hitter.

What makes McGonigle particularly impressive is that he isn’t simply relying on his bat. The 21-year-old has the versatility to handle shortstop and third base, giving Detroit another valuable dimension in the field.

His ability to play shortstop is especially important because he can provide premium defensive value at a demanding position while remaining one of the Tigers’ most productive offensive players.

His approach at the plate has also been remarkably advanced for a rookie. McGonigle has more walks than strikeouts and ranks among the MLB leaders in contact and chase-rate metrics.

The overall package explains why he’s created such a significant gap in the Rookie of the Year market. McGonigle is contributing with his bat, on the bases and defensively, while his superior WAR gives him the strongest all-around statistical case among the rookie class.

At -750, there isn’t much value left in the price, but it’s difficult to argue with McGonigle’s status as the obvious favorite for MLB Rookie of the Year betting picks.

Parker Messick (+500)

Messick has emerged as the biggest threat to Kevin McGonigle in the AL Rookie of the Year race, and the Cleveland Guardians left-hander offers a more attractive AL ROY odds at +500.

Through 29 starts, Messick owns an impressive 2.51 ERA and 1.03 WHIP across 172.1 innings, while going 11-9 with 178 strikeouts. His 5.7 WAR ranks among the best marks in baseball’s rookie class, giving him a strong argument as the most valuable rookie pitcher in the American League. His 163 ERA+ is another indication of just how dominant he has been, as he’s allowed runs at a rate well below the league average.

The workload makes Messick’s numbers even more impressive. He has already made 29 starts and thrown more than 170 innings, giving him a significant advantage over many rookie pitchers who have been limited by workload or spent portions of the season in the minors. He’s also maintained excellent control, walking just 47 batters while striking out 178, good for a 3.79 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Messick has continued to pitch effectively down the stretch. His most recent outing came against the Minnesota Twins on September 11, when he worked 5.1 innings, allowed just one run and struck out five to help Cleveland secure a 5-2 victory. It was another quality outing from the rookie left-hander as the Guardians continue their push toward the postseason.

That performance came just days after one of Messick’s best strikeout performances of the season. Against the Detroit Tigers on September 5, he fanned a career-high 12 batters over six innings, stuff that makes him such a dangerous challenger to McGonigle. Even when he doesn’t have his best command, Messick has shown an ability to avoid bats and limit damage.

McGonigle remains the deserved favorite thanks to his league-leading rookie WAR and elite all-around production, but Messick is hanging around. At +500, bettors are getting a better price, though McGonigle may have already wrapped up the race for the AL Rookie of the Year.

Sal Stewart (-2500)

Sal Stewart has turned the NL Rookie of the Year race into a runaway, with the Cincinnati Reds’ first baseman now priced at -2500. The odds reflect an outstanding offensive season that has seen Stewart separate himself from the rest of the rookie class, particularly with his run production and power.

Stewart is hitting .268/.338/.478 with 31 home runs, 107 RBIs, 80 runs and 15 stolen bases through 2026. His 107 RBIs lead the Majors, while his 31 homers are also tops among NL rookies. He has also produced a 124 OPS+, meaning his overall offensive production has been 24% better than league average.

The RBI production has been particularly impressive. Stewart broke Cincinnati’s rookie RBI record earlier this month, surpassing Frank McCormick’s previous mark of 106 from 1938.

He has also shown that his production isn’t simply the result of a hot start. Stewart won NL Rookie of the Month in August after hitting .304 with eight homers, 21 RBIs, 21 runs and a .879 OPS, his best month of the season.

Stewart has continued to produce in September as well. He enters September 12 having recorded eight hits in his last 29 at-bats. His 125 wRC+ ranks among the better marks in the rookie class, while his 31 homers and 107 RBIs provides production that tends to stand out with award voters.

The recent surge has ultimately created a massive gap in the betting market. With JJ Wetherholt sidelined and Nolan McLean still the closest challenger, Stewart’s combination of power, run production and consistency gives him the best case to claim the award.

At -2500, however, there is virtually no value left in the price. Stewart has clearly established himself as the player to beat, but bettors looking for a bigger payout will have to look elsewhere.

You should be careful, though, as there are no realistic options who can take Stewart down to the wire in the NL Rookie of the Year race.

Nolan McLean (+1100)

McLean remains the biggest threat to Sal Stewart in the NL Rookie of the Year race, but the New York Mets right-hander has seen his odds drift to +1100.

McLean has still put together a strong rookie campaign, combining a substantial workload with swing-and-miss stuff and a stretch of dominant starts that put him firmly into the award conversation.

Through 29 starts, McLean has gone 11-9 with a 3.24 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 184 strikeouts across 166.2 innings. His 2.7 WAR gives him a solid overall value mark, while his 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings demonstrate the ability to miss bats consistently. He has also limited the long ball reasonably well, allowing 17 homers over his 166.2 innings.

McLean’s recent form is what initially pushed him into the Rookie of the Year conversation. Before his latest outing, he had allowed two or fewer earned runs in five consecutive starts, including particularly impressive performances against Houston and the Chicago White Sox.

He threw seven scoreless innings against the Astros on August 29 and followed that with six innings and seven strikeouts against San Francisco on September 4.

His latest start, however, was a significant step backward. McLean faced the Yankees on September 11 and surrendered a career-high 10 hits and five earned runs over five innings, including two home runs, in a 6-4 loss.

It was his first outing since July 30 in which he allowed multiple homers and ended a five-start streak of allowing two or fewer earned runs while pitching at least six innings.

Despite that setback, McLean has been excellent over a larger sample size. He owns a 2.59 ERA across his last 15 starts, with 96 strikeouts in 90.1 innings, showing that his overall body of work remains much stronger than his latest outing suggests.

The problem for McLean is the size of the gap between him and Stewart. The Reds rookie has generated significantly more offensive production and has become the clear favorite at -2500.

If Stewart falters, McLean’s combination of 184 strikeouts, 166.2 innings, a 3.24 ERA, and 2.7 WAR gives him a path to the award. However, with the latest Yankees outing fresh in the minds of voters, +1100 is a price that comes with considerable risk. This race is effectively over in my opinion.
