Week 1 of the NFL might be months from now, but we know the schedule, and the odds are up! This is a great reason to explore all NFL opening week lines and share my expectations for those of you looking to place some early wagers.
The 2024 season promises to have plenty of thrills and excitement. Most importantly, there will be many profitable opportunities for bettors on the gridiron right away in the first week.

16 games are scheduled for Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season. In the season opener, the Kansas City Chiefs will raise their Super Bowl banner, and then play host to the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs open the season in a rematch of the AFC Championship. Although both teams are led by dynamic quarterbacks, this matchup has the makings for a defensive struggle at Arrowhead Stadium.
Rashee Rice’s suspension and subsequent absence in Week 1 will impact the Chiefs’ offense. However, I expect the defense to step up to stop Lamar Jackson on critical downs!
It should be close, but anything under -3 on the Chiefs at Arrowhead is a play for me on the point spread. Jackson is just 1-3 in his career against the Chiefs. He’s been mediocre, with a passer rating of 78.9 in four games.
The Chiefs should edge out the Ravens for a win by 4-5 points, so I like the Chiefs and the Under to open the 2024 season!

The Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles collide in the NFL’s first-ever game in Brazil. Philadelphia is a short favorite at -2, but do online betting sites have it correct?
Due to Jason Kelce’s retirement, the Eagles must retool part of their offensive line. Last season, the Eagles collapsed late in the year after a 10-1 start to the season.
They played with no confidence, and it all unraveled rather quickly against the Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round. Meanwhile, under QB Jordan Love, the Packers look like a team surging up.
Once the offense figured it out, the Packers excelled with Love at the controls. These are organizations seemingly heading in opposite directions. The Eagles will be competitive, but the value for your Week 1 NFL betting strategy is on the Packers!

The NFL Week 1 lines feature a battle between new faces at quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Falcons. After an abysmal career with the Denver Broncos, Russell Wilson is looking for a fresh start in Pittsburgh.
Meanwhile, Kirk Cousins signed with the Falcons after failing to come to terms with the Minnesota Vikings. He joins a Falcons team that has a terrible history against the Steelers.
The Steelers are 15-2-1 in their last 18 matchups versus the Falcons. It’s been a lopsided affair in favor of the Steelers. As far as this year is concerned, it feels like a game that will come down to a last-second field goal.
Both offenses should have early growing pains, with a big defensive stop likely the difference. I’ll put my faith in T.J. Watt making a play, so consider backing the Steelers for your 2024 NFL Week 1 picks.

Do your best NFL bets Week 1 of the 2024 season include the Arizona Cardinals or Buffalo Bills? As a 7-point favorite, the Bills would likely see most of the money against the spread and on the moneyline.
I do not foresee the Cardinals getting blown out. They should show small gains as a franchise in 2024. However, there are still too many holes to hide in Orchard Park at Highmark Stadium.
This is a long trip across the country to New York for the Cardinals. After a 4-13 season, the Cardinals are likely a six-win team in 2024. Kyler Murray needs a killer instinct for this team to excel, but that remains absent.
We know that Josh Allen and the Bills will be motivated, though. The Bills pull away for a 13-point win to cover at Bovada.

The Caleb Williams era starts in Week 1 at Soldier Field. According to the opening NFL Week One odds, Williams and the Bears are a 4.5-point favorite over the Tennessee Titans.
The Titans are not competing for Super Bowl 59, and probably won’t be a winning team, but I don’t like backing Williams as a 4.5-point favorite. He will settle in, but being overhyped, leading to an inflated Week 1 line.
In a closely contested low-scoring battle, consider siding with Will Levis and the points at +4.5. I have the Bears winning by a field goal, but the Titans against the spread!

There are several new moving parts in Foxborough. After more than two decades, the New England Patriots will have a new head coach. Former linebacker Jerod Mayo is the first Patriots head coach since 2000!
New England will also introduce a new quarterback after selecting Drake Maye with the third overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. Jacoby Brissett will receive the starting call if Maye isn’t ready for Week 1.
The Patriots’ offense will be too dysfunctional to compete with the Bengals on the road. Defensively, the Patriots should hold tough, but should struggle to score. The Bengals by 10 points is my NFL Week 1 prediction for the season opener at Paycor Stadium.

Following a record-breaking NFL rookie season, is C.J. Stroud in for more of the same or will he hit a sophomore slump? With Anthony Richardson back at quarterback for the Colts, this should be a highly entertaining showdown between young QBs.
It should be one of the most entertaining games to open the season, and the 2024 Week 1 betting odds agree that it will be close. Currently, the Texans have a slightly better than 50% implied probability!
However, I am leaning towards Richardson and the Colts coming to play at Lucas Oil Stadium. In what should be a nail-biter, so points on the home underdog is a solid value bet.

Betting apps expect a tight ball game between the Jaguars and Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium. The Jaguars are a small favorite on the road, but it’s about a pick’em.
The Jaguars had an incredibly disappointing season in 2023, so the public will likely back the Dolphins. That being said, I spot a bit of a trap in Miami.
Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars have something to prove following a 9-8 season. Jacksonville was a much better team on paper than their record indicated!
They should come out of the gates firing hard, taking the Dolphins by surprise at home, so consider backing the Jaguars in Week 1.

In this NFC West rivalry matchup, the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints are set for an important Week 1 matchup at the Caesars Superdome. The Panthers’ offense struggled mightily in Bryce Young’s rookie season.
They won just two games, but are hoping for much better results in Young’s sophomore campaign. It can’t get much worse. There were positives with the defense, which kept them around in several games.
Young’s problems were multiplied because of a poor offensive line. In 2024, the Panthers improved their line considerably by adding Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis!
That should instantly cause the Panthers to be more competitive, so I like a close matchup in this divisional rivalry.

The New Orleans Saints welcome the Tennessee Titans to the Caesars Superdome. In his first start as a New Orleans Saint, Derek Carr should deliver at home.
However, this is likely to be a game that comes down to the final minutes. Expect a late field goal from the Saints to edge out the Titans in Week 1.
When we made our first bet three months ago, the Titans were getting 3.5 points. With the point spread currently at -3 points, we recommend looking for 3.5 or wait for a better line.

Several 2024 NFL Week 1 point spreads suggest there will be close games. This is another one of them at MetLife Stadium. In a massive season for Giants’ QB Daniel Jones, he and the Giants open as a 1-point favorite at home.
Following Cousins’ departure from Minnesota, the Vikings are in the midst of a QB battle for the starting job. Sam Darnold or rookie J.J. McCarthy will receive the green light from head coach Kevin O’Connell.
There is plenty of uncertainty with the Vikings’ offense right now. In a close call, expect the Giants to prevail in the 4th quarter for a 20-17 win!

Jim Harbaugh is back on an NFL sideline for the first time since 2014. After leading the Michigan Wolverines to a national title, he accepted a job with the Los Angeles Chargers!
Against a shaky Raiders’ offense, we should expect Harbaugh’s defensive identity to shine in Week 1. Harbaugh will likely have his defense ready for Aidan O’Connell.
Justin Herbert should be able to take care of the rest with his arm. The Chargers are the play here, so consider including Harbaugh on your NFL Week 1 projections.

The Denver Broncos open the season on the road at Seattle. It will be without Wilson, as they’ve moved on from that failed experiment and handed rookie QB Bo Nix the keys.
Will Nix learn quickly in training camp and be ready to lead the Broncos into Seattle? I have my doubts. The Seahawks’ defense will likely be too tough in his NFL regular season debut.
Look for Geno Smith and the Seahawks to roll at home in this spot, so lay the -4.5 points on the favorite!

The Dallas Cowboys will try again after more playoff failures in 2023. Can we trust the Cowboys on the road in a hostile environment in Week 1? The first week 2024 NFL odds give the Cowboys a slight 2-point advantage!
It’s difficult for me to lay points on the Cowboys against a tough Cleveland defense. Myles Garrett will be the difference in this one, while Deshaun Watson should hold up and be healthy for at least the season opener.
For your opening week 2024 NFL predictions, I recommend including the Browns on your card.

The Washington Commanders open on the road against a Tampa Bay Buccaneers squad that wasn’t expected to amount to much last year. However, Baker Mayfield took over after Tom Brady’s retirement and led the Buccaneers to the playoffs.
I expect the Buccaneers to regress slightly from their 9-8 campaign. They may also look past electric rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. There is a new era in Washington, and the club should be in good hands with Daniels under center.
Look for a motivated Commanders squad to surprise onlookers with a strong showing in Week 1. Daniels’ dual-threat ability should give the Bucs’ defense some issues out of the gate. Take the points and consider an upset on the moneyline!

The NFL betting slate in Week 1 includes an epic Sunday Night Football matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions. Matthew Stafford made his first return to Ford Field in the playoffs and played well, but it wasn’t enough with a 24-23 loss in the Wild Card Round.
This year, Stafford comes back for the regular season opener in Detroit. The environment should be less hostile, but it is expected to be loud. Nevertheless, this should go down to the wire again, with the Lions escaping with a win!
Much of the roster that went to the NFC Championship is back for the Lions, including new contracts for Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jared Goff. They should pull it off, 30-27, but I don’t want to lay more than three points against a motivated Stafford.

Rodgers will make some plays, but he is still playing behind a shaky offensive line in New York. A bad offensive line isn’t a recipe for success versus a stout pass rush like the 49ers.
