The opening slate of matchups at the best NFL betting sites reveal that there should be plenty of competitive matchups to open the season. Currently, 11 matchups have a point spread of -3.5 or lower! The Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers are the only teams with point spreads greater than a touchdown.

In other words, the NFL Week 1 betting odds indicate that most matchups are expected to be entertaining contests, but which bets should you side with? Let’s dive into each game and my reasoning for the Week 1 schedule.

New England Patriots vs. Seattle Seahawks Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

The Patriots +3.5 looks like an appealing opening-week value bet, especially in what should be a tightly contested matchup. Seattle may have the home-field edge, but New England’s defense should be in good order and capable of keeping this game within striking distance.

The Seahawks are thin in the backfield, with RB Kenneth Walker III moving elsewhere in the offseason and current starter RB Zach Charbonnet injured. That leaves rookie RB Jadarian Price at the top of the depth chart, which I’m concerned about in pass protection and against a defense that allowed fewer than 100 rushing yards last year.

The Patriots also have extra motivation coming in with revenge on their minds, giving them another reason to stay engaged for all four quarters.

I don’t foresee an opening slump for QB Drake Maye after going down to the wire for the MVP in 2025-26. This feels like the type of game that could come down to a field goal, making the extra 3.5 points particularly valuable.

Expect a competitive battle with New England having a strong chance to cover and value to win outright for our NFL Week 1 picks.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Rams Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

In the Australian showdown in Melbourne, the 49ers and Rams square off at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. I am high on the Rams this season, but I anticipate a close matchup Down Under.

The 49ers are being overlooked to open the season and should give the Rams a tough challenge to open the year. WR Mike Evans will fortunately suit up for the 49ers in a must for this team. Evans and RB Christian McCaffrey will be a tough duo to contain point against a Rams’ defense with several new faces.

The Rams should eke a win out, and will pull away from a 49ers team that can’t seem to stay healthy as the season progresses, but a field goal game appears likely.

The Super Bowl favorites aren’t ready to fire on all cylinders just yet, allowing the 49ers to stay within 3.5 points.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Pittsburgh Steelers: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

The Atlanta Falcons are on the outside looking in at the playoffs and I don’t expect this to be a competitive year after going 8-9 and firing head coach Raheem Morris. Expect Kevin Stefanski to go through growing pains early with this group.

The quarterback situation is questionable, with QB Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa battling for the starting job in the preseason. It turns out that neither will start this game. Instead, Cooper Rush will start as Tagovailoa suffered an oblique injury in practice on Thursday. Jack Strand will back up Rush as Penix Jr. still isn’t ready for game action after ACL surgery in November 2025.

The offense will lean heavily on RB Bijan Robinson, but without a legitimate deep threat, the Steelers’ defense will stack the box and limit the running game.

The Falcons’ defense ranks in the back of the league, with little pass-rush to get to Steelers’ QB Aaron Rodgers. Look for Rodgers to get off to a quick start, leading the Steelers to a win by a touchdown at home.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Indianapolis Colts Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

The Ravens -3 are an appealing Week 1 play, with QB Lamar Jackson giving Baltimore a major advantage at quarterback.

Jackson enters the season feeling comfortable in new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle’s system and has developed strong chemistry with his receiving corps.

RB Derrick Henry also gives Baltimore a physical presence in the backfield, while WR Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman provide Jackson with explosive options in the passing game.

Indianapolis has some injury concerns entering the matchup, with WR Alec Pierce only recently returning from ankle surgery and CB Charvarius Ward working his way back from a back injury.

With Baltimore’s overall talent, Jackson’s playmaking ability and a vulnerable Colts’ secondary, the Ravens should cover the three points for one of the best NFL Week 1 bets.

Buffalo Bills vs. Houston Texans Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

The Buffalo Bills have a tough matchup to open the season on the road at NRG Stadium. Bills’ QB Josh Allen travels to a place where he’s never won in his career and has regularly struggled against the Texans’ defense.

Allen has passed for 716 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions with an abysmal 74.0 QB rating versus the Texans. He’s also just 1-4 against Houston, and this might be the best Texans’ defense he’s ever faced. Houston enters the season with the most complete defensive unit in the league.

Led by Will Anderson Jr. off the edge, look for the Texans to frustrate Allen and the Bills’ offense. Texans’ QB CJ Stroud will have to come up with a play or two, but I suspect the defense wins this game in a statement victory in Week 1.

Chicago Bears vs. Carolina Panthers Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

In a matchup where the public is likely going to favor the Chicago Bears heavily, the Carolina Panthers are a sneaky pick as home underdogs. The Bears have high expectations in the NFC North this season, but this is a trap on the road in Week 1.

The Bears enter the campaign with a tough secondary but are very beatable up front. They aren’t elite by any means in the box and have a below average defensive line. I expect them to struggle in close, grind-it-out games like they’ll see against the Panthers. Chicago was 26th against the run in the NFL, yielding 131.4 yards per game in 2025-26.

They didn’t make enough improvements to be highly confident in a significant change. Panthers’ QB Bryce Young is at his best when his team is running the ball well and they should in Week 1. I’m also confident in the Panthers’ defense showing gains with the LB Devin Lloyd and LB Jaelen Phillips signings.

Cleveland Browns vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

Are the Cleveland Browns that bad enough where they should be an 8.5-point underdog to the Jacksonville Jaguars? The Browns are probably just as bad as you think, while the Jaguars might be one of the most underrated teams in the league.

After a 13-4 campaign to win the AFC South, the Jaguars continue to fly under the radar. Jaguars’ QB Trevor Lawrence had a statement season in a year when he really needed it, passing for 4,007 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Look for the Jaguars to chew up a Browns’ team that is now without DPOY Myles Garrett.

That loss will be evident, as Lawrence gets the better of the Browns’ secondary. The quarterback situation is a complete mess, with Deshaun Watson getting the QB1 job despite plenty of questions and hostilities with the home crowd. The offense should have little confidence against a Jacksonville defense that saw massive improvement under DC Anthony Campanile.

For one of the best 2026 NFL Week 1 bets, the Jags should cover with a convincing win at home.

New Orleans Saints vs. Detroit Lions Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

In a spot where the Lions will receive public money at Ford Field, this is a sneaky spot for the Saints on the road. It’s important to understand that the Lions have a huge lookahead spot to the Bills on Thursday Night Football next week.

The team has already likely chalked up this game as a win and applied their attention on Buffalo in Week 2. However, that’s a mistake against a Saints’ team that finished in the top 10 in defense last season and comes with some weapons in the passing game.

The Lions’ secondary situation is currently in flux, as the cornerback depth chart severely lacks. Saints’ QB Tyler Shough should look better than many people expect to open the season. In short, the Saints are the play, with a backdoor cover quite possible.

New York Jets vs. Tennessee Titans Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

Two teams looking to surpass expectations and surprise this season are the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans. I don’t foresee much traction, so on paper, this looks like the worst matchup in Week 1.

The Geno Smith 2.0 experiment in New York is unlikely to end well. Smith is back with the Jets after being drafted by the team in the second round in 2023. His first stint didn’t go well, partly because there were little weapons and a paper thin offensive line.

Not much has changed since then, and the offense is likely to stall out often in Nashville. Now, the defense is in rough shape, too, after CB Sauce Gardner and DT Quinnen Williams were traded last year. They’ll need LB David Bailey to perform right away, but that’s asking a lot.

In an ugly matchup, back the Titans in a 19-14 win for one of our NFL Week 1 betting predictions.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Cincinnati Bengals Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

The Bengals welcome the Buccaneers to Paycor Stadium in a game that should provide plenty of fireworks. I think the Buccaneers are going to take a step back after losing Mike Evans in the offense. I’m optimistic that QB Baker Mayfield will have a solid year, but he should struggle out of the gate on the road.

DT Dexter Lawrence’s arrival to Cincinnati should instantly be evident in Week 1. The Bengals have long been missing a plug in the middle of the defensive line and Lawrence fills that huge need. This isn’t going to be a top-10 unit, but on the road to respectability, and with the explosive offense likely enough versus the Bucs.

Look for the Buccaneers to fail to keep pace with QB Joe Burrow’s explosive offense in Cincinnati. They will likely get behind early, and Mayfield should struggle to dig them out of the hole. So, lay the points on the Bengals to cover for one of the best NFL bets this week.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Chargers Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

In a rebuilding season for the Arizona Cardinals, rookie head coach Mike LaFleur has a tough assignment on the West Coast. They aim to land a blow as double-digit underdogs at SoFi Stadium, but I don’t see it going very well.

Aside from WR Marvin Harrison Jr. and TE Trey McBride, the Cardinals are depleted in multiple fronts. #4 RB Jeremiyah Love is expected to play, although it’s tough to figure out how much as he’s recovering from a high ankle sprain. This leaves QB Jacoby Brissett in a tough position.

The Cardinals’ defense is equally anemic, which poses big questions against Chargers’ QB Justin Herbert. Look for Herbert to pile up the stats en route to a big win at home.

Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

The new-look Minnesota Vikings hit the field for the first time with QB Kyler Murray under center. It’s a big game for the Vikings, as they look to prove that this era is going to be different in Minnesota. At times, there were flashes of a quality team in 2025-26, but J.J. McCarthy’s injury derailed any sense of hope for the offense.

Now, Murray gets a fresh start in Minnesota, and the Vikings hopefully have a stable situation at quarterback. At home in Week 1 against a divisional rival, expect the Vikings to come out blazing hot on both sides of the ball. The Vikings showed some defensive energy a year ago, but the offense continually let them down.

The energy from the Vikings should catch the Packers off-guard to open the game. WR Justin Jefferson has been waiting for a quarterback that can get him the ball, and he and Murray should develop in an early rapport. The Vikings as short home favorites is one of the best NFL betting picks this week.

Miami Dolphins vs. Las Vegas Raiders Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

In an ugly display of a football game, the Dolphins and Raiders meet in a battle between two basement dwellers. The Raiders are bad, but the Dolphins should be fighting for the No. 1 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.

The cupboard is empty in Miami, with the roster stripped of the last remaining bit of talent they had in the offseason. Now, the Dolphins are slated to start QB Mailk Willis in Week 1 against the Raiders. Willis might be an adequate backup in the NFL, but I don’t see him as a reliable QB1.

Along with an offense that has limited weapons, the defense lost all of its muscle up front and in the secondary. This could be the worst defense and offense in the NFL. Veteran Kirk Cousins will get the start over No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza, and I think that helps the Raiders here.

The Raiders should scrape out a six or seven-point win to cover for one of the best NFL Week 1 betting picks.

Washington Commanders vs. Philadelphia Eagles Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

I am trying to find a reason to pick the Commanders, but their offensive line is so beaten up that there isn’t any reason to side with them. If Commanders’ QB Jayden Daniels is going to have any success, he needs the offensive line to offer protection.

That’s likely going to be the narrative in this matchup at Lincoln Financial Field. While I believe the Commanders’ defense can get a stop here and there, Daniels is going to put his team behind. It may not primarily be his problem due to the offensive line, but the stats aren’t going to look positive.

Jalen Hurts should pull the Eagles away in the fourth quarter to win and cover the spread at home.

Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

The New York Giants will look to re-write some ugly trends against the Dallas Cowboys in recent memory. The Cowboys have won 15 of the last 17 games versus the Giants since 2017.

Additionally, in 11 all-time meetings in Week, 1 the Cowboys have won 10 games over the Giants. While trends don’t tell the entire story, the Giants remain a team that isn’t preparing for the playoffs.

Giants’ QB Jaxson Dart and RB Cam Skattebo are back together, but that doesn’t get me excited in the least. The verdict is still out on this combo, and the Giants need more. The defense is showing improvement on paper, especially in the box with Abdul Carter, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Arvell Reese, but the secondary still needs work.

Look for the Cowboys to get off to a quick start, with Dak Prescott overwhelming the Giants and delivering another win over their NFC East rivals.

Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets

In a pivotal AFC West matchup on Monday Night Football, the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs close out the Week 1 schedule. After overcoming a torn ACL and LCL, Patrick Mahomes is back for the Chiefs. I expect plenty of quick passes with the Chiefs keeping it simple and Mahomes avoiding too much contact.

That’s going to be tough against one of the best defenses in the NFL, though. The Broncos finished in the top 5 with 18.5 points against and 283.4 yards per game in 2025-26. Also, the Broncos have held the Chiefs to 19 points or fewer in six games over the last three seasons.

The key for the Chiefs is the arrival of RB Kenneth Walker III from the Seahawks. That said, the Broncos have the personnel to stop the run, so it should be a tightly contested matchup. So, the Broncos at +2.5 in a game that goes down to the wire is one of the best NFL wagers this week.
