Will LeBron James Retire?

• Yes: +275
• No: -450

At 41 years old, James continued to defy Father Time. He averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 8.3 rebounds during the regular season. “King” James was even better in the playoffs, putting up 23.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 6.7 boards for the Lakers, who upset Houston in six games, before getting swept by Oklahoma City in the second round.

The Houston series was incredible for James as the Lakers were missing Luka Dončić due to a hamstring injury. Austin Reaves came back for the last two games of the series, but James put the Lakers on his back.

The day after the season ended, James said he was going to spend time with his family before making a decision. He also claimed that he had to decide if he could handle the process of preparing for games, including practice and body maintenance.

But I’m leaning towards No at -450 on whether James retires. He showed he still has a lot left in the tank. While he’s not the player he was, James is still, at worst, a top 30 player in the NBA.

Will LeBron James Return to the LA Lakers in 2026?

• Yes: +110
• No: -150

James will be a free agent this summer, meaning he can sign an extension with the Lakers, or elsewhere. The Lakers can also trade James, however, he has a full no-trade clause. His $52.6 million salary means the Lakers would have to team that can match the money.

I think James just wants to go somewhere he can win a fifth title, which is going to be tough in the Western Conference. Oklahoma City is the league’s best team, while San Antonio is on the ascent, and Minnesota is still there.

The Lakers do have Dončić, who led the league in scoring. Reaves is also in the market for a big raise, so the team has to figure that out. Would James be willing to take a bit of a pay cut to stay in Los Angeles? That’s the only way the Lakers can compete, because they’re terrible defensively with this trio on the floor.

All that said…… I’m taking Yes at +110 for James to stay in Los Angeles. He was terrific as the third option on the team when Dončić and Reaves were healthy. He is also entrenched in Los Angeles with his family; his eight years with the Lakes are the most James has spent with one team.

James also has many business ventures, likely in Los Angeles. But he has to realize that he can’t take a max contract as a third option if he wants a legitimate chance at a title, and that goes for anywhere he goes.

So, I’m taking Yes at +110 for a nice return on the “King” staying in L.A. It’s a reasonable decision if he accept that he’s no longer the main man and accepts a cut.

LeBron James 2026/27 Team (if not Lakers)?

• Cleveland Cavaliers: +100
• Golden State Warriors: +300
• Denver Nuggets: +500
• New York Knicks: +700
• Milwaukee Bucks: +900
• Detroit Pistons: +1000
• Brooklyn Nets: +1200
• Houston Rockets: +1800
• Orlando Magic: +2200

Let’s just say that James does decide to leave Los Angeles. Where would he go? A third stint in Cleveland is favored as James grew up in nearby Akron. The Cavaliers would have to work with James on a sign-and-trade, and then they’d have to match salaries.

Evan Mobley or Donovan Mitchell could get moved, but that doesn’t make Cleveland better, which is bad for both the team and James.

Golden State has long been rumored to want to pair James with Stephen Curry in the twilight of their careers. But the same rules apply to the Warriors here, as they would have to likely trade Jimmy Butler to match salary. However, I don’t know how far that gets the Warriors in the brutal West.

Look a little further down the board, and it’s scary, but what about Oklahoma City (+4000) or San Antonio (+4000)? Neither team needs James, but they have trade assets, they can match salary, and draft picks that could help the Lakers.

James also wouldn’t have to play a lot of defense on either team as both are young, and can do the running to save his legs. However, do they want to change their chemistry for a large personality like James? I wouldn’t think so, but the value is good enough to at least consider the option.

If he leaves the Lakers, the Warriors are the play for LeBron James’ next team at +300. He and Curry made magic at the 2024 Olympics to lead the Americans to a gold medal. It’s two years later, but it would still be a fun prospect to see these two run pick-and-rolls, with Draymond Green anchoring the defense and Steve Kerr coaching, before riding off into the sunset.

LeBron and Bronny to Be on the Same Team Next Year

• Yes: +110
• No: -150

I’ll take the Yes here also at +110. LeBron and his son are a package deal, much like Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brothers. Fortunately, Bronny makes a mere $2.3 million, so teams can squeeze him in under the cap. If not for basketball season, having James on the team with his son is good for public relations, content, and a lot of factors outside of basketball.

For this LeBron James futures price, I’m happy to grab it.
