The odds for the Super Bowl 60 national anthem length favor the over at 125 seconds. That translates to a 60% implied probability that the song will last more than 2:05.

This will be Puth’s first time performing the national anthem on a large stage at a sporting event. Usually, Super Bowl anthem singers have prior experience delivering “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a major public venue, but Puth hasn’t received that honor until now.

Best known for “See You Again” alongside Wiz Khalifa, Puth auditioned for the assignment after sending a demo to Jay Z’s Roc Nation. He has always been interested in signing the national anthem and took the initiative to send in the audition tape.

With his style, he’d need to noticeably drag out the phrasing and lean heavily on the piano to push this rendition past 125 seconds. It’s certainly possible, but the value appears to be on the under.

There aren’t any publicly available videos of Puth singing the national anthem live. However, five years ago, he released a rendition on the keyboard. While that version likely has little in common with the arrangement he’ll use on Super Bowl Sunday, it’s still worth noting that he sped through the song on the keyboard in roughly a minute.

Eight of the last nine Super Bowl national anthems have finished under 125 seconds. Chris Stapleton’s national anthem prop bet was set at 125 seconds in 2023, and he finished in 121 seconds (2:01) to go comfortably under the total. This was a rendition on a guitar, which was long and drawn out. In 2021, Jazmine Sullivan and Eric Church flew over the total with a recorded time of 2:17, but this was a duet!

Puth will be the first native of New Jersey to sing the national anthem since Whitney Houston in 1991. The 34-year-old recently responded to criticism that he doesn’t have the vocals for the song. While Puth admits he doesn’t have the ability to match Houston, he said they are putting a special arrangement together in D major.

With some people questioning Puth’s vocal ceiling, I expect him to be highly motivated to deliver a flawless performance. Singing the national anthem has been on his bucket list for years, and he wasn’t even approached by organizers. Puth had to send in a demo to get Roc Nation’s attention, and it clearly worked.

I’m confident Puth will be ready for Super Bowl 60. Does that mean it’s worth laying a big price on him not to forget or skip a word? Not at -1000. However, if you’re looking for a fun Super Bowl national anthem prop for a small, recreational wager, I don’t think he’ll make any mistakes.
