UEFA Champions League Picks Today: UCL Predictions for October 14

Everyone expects Liverpool to win this one, but I’m not sure this is the best angle. The Reds are coming into this game depleted after a tough defeat against Manchester City on Sunday, on top of a long injury list.

The new manager Andoni Iraola couldn’t rely on key attacking players like Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak, and Cody Gakpo. They remain out for the LASK trip, with Dominik Szoboszlai questionable for this match.

Liverpool’s firepower will be reduced significantly as a result, with the Reds already struggling to create enough opportunities. They sit 19th from 20 teams in the EPL for big chances created, so don’t expect a bunch of chances.

Instead, the main priority for Liverpool will be to control the game and patiently pressure the hosts. I expect them to win, but going for Under 3.5 at -115 is a much better bet.

The home side don’t really have the quality to trouble Liverpool significantly, while the Reds are not their best going forward right now. If you want a higher price, you can also go for Liverpool to win to nil or Liverpool & under 3.5 goals.

They also had decent results away, beating Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, showing it’s not only about their own pitch. The team is very well-drilled, defending and attacking as a unit, with relentless work rate.

I expect more of the same this season, despite the tough start. Bodo Glimt lost 5-0 away to Bayern, but that’s one of the best teams in the world. I wouldn’t read too much into it, and the home tie against Dortmund is an excellent opportunity to bounce back.
