Vance Joseph’s group gives Denver a clear edge. Denver enters as one of the league’s top-tier defenses, ranking fifth in DVOA and third in run defense DVOA. Anchored up front by Zach Allen and Nik Bonitto, the Broncos generate consistent pressure without being forced to over-blitz.
That front-four disruption forces quick releases and prevents explosive downfield concepts to WR Xavier Worthy and TE Travis Kelce. Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes is returning from major knee surgery and will look to protect his knee in the season opener. Mahomes didn’t play in any preseason games, so he has some rust to shake off as well. This is one of the worst matchups that Mahomes could have seen in Week 1.
Broncos’ QB Bo Nix operates a highly efficient, quick-strike passing system that thrives on high-percentage throws to WR Courtland Sutton and first-year Bronco Jaylen Waddle.

In his second year under center, Nix passed for 3,931 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Adding Waddle to the field should elevate Nix’s production in 2025-26. By getting the ball out fast and behind an elite offensive line, Denver limits third-and-longs and effectively neutralizes Chris Jones and Kansas City’s interior pass rush.
Divisional underdogs catching under three points early in the season cover at nearly a 57% rate, as short-spread divisional battles inherently favor the team that can manage clock and play stingy defense. Kansas City’s rebuilt defensive secondary should be noted as a factor on Monday, too. In short, we are backing the Broncos for our Monday Night Football best bets.

It isn’t going to be a fully polished Chiefs’ offense, but 17 points looks manageable at home. Despite all the injuries and ups and downs in 2025-26, the Chiefs managed to average 21.3 points per game. They’re in better shape heading into Week 1 offensively.
I highlighted my concerns with the Chiefs’ defense against Nix and the Broncos above. They have new faces in the secondary, and should take time to find chemistry. Denver should capitalize with an offense that looks better than ever with Waddle and Sutton on the field together.
I predict a game that goes down to the wire in a 21-20 final or thereabout, so yes, both teams will score 17+ points.
Winning Margin: Broncos by 1-6 Points (+295)
The Broncos are heading into a tough environment at Arrowhead, but they are the better team and won’t need much time to warm up. Meanwhile, it could take Mahomes a couple of quarters to get his feet underneath him. He’s a fantastic player, but after bypassing the preseason, he may need a minute to get going.
Denver’s defense isn’t the most ideal team to get thrown into right away after repairing an ACL and LCL. They get pressure and will force Mahomes into some tough positions. In an attempt to protect his surgically repaired knee, Mahomes might be more hesitant than when we’re accustomed to.
It should be close, but the Broncos can steal this one outright at Arrowhead. With that in mind, +295 odds on a one to six-point victory offers significant value for one of the best MNF prop bets this week.
Best Monday Night Football Player Props This Week

Kelce is going to benefit greatly from Mahomes looking in his direction. He should be able to get free in the middle of the field to pick up decent yardage throughout this matchup. In 2025-26, Kelce finished with 851 yards and five touchdowns in what was considered a down year.

With Mahomes back, look for Kelce to get off to a quick start in 2026. Additionally, the Broncos haven’t been excellent against tight ends. Despite their defensive success overall, the Broncos ranked in the bottom quarter of the league with 1,105 yards yielded to tight ends.
So, Kelce over 40.5 receiving yards stands out as one of the best Week 1 MNF player prop bets.

Andy Reid wants to get Rice involved in the offense early and he should generate attention from Mahomes in the opening quarter. That should result in Rice collecting plenty of passes from No. 15.
Last season, Rice recorded at least six receptions in six of eight games he played in. That included six or more catches in four of his previous five matchups to conclude the season. This looks like a great spot for over 5.5 receptions on Rice’s MNF prop bet.
