TEAMSPREADMONEYLINEODDS
New York Jets+6.5 (+100)+270Over 36 (-110)
Cleveland Browns-6.5 (-120)-340Under 36 (-110)

The Browns are roughly a touchdown favorite over the Jets at home on Thursday Night Football. The resurgence of Joe Flacco has the Browns thinking about a deep playoff run.

With their defense, the Browns are capable of making games miserable for opponents. However, their QB situation hasn’t exactly been ironclad, as they’ve had to cycle through multiple options.

Since being signed by the Browns, Flacco has provided the Browns with some stability under center. That said, the Jets’ defense is likely to give Flacco and the Browns a tough assignment in the Week 17 opener. The Over-Under is low at 36 points for good reason.

Thursday Night Football Picks for Jets vs. Browns

The Browns’ defense has an assortment of weapons to hold opponents in check. Through Week 16, the Browns lead the NFL in defensive yards allowed per game. They’ve yielded an average of 260.3 yards per game, which is first by a considerable margin.

In particular, it has been a difficult chore for offenses to move the ball on the Browns in Cleveland. The Browns are incredibly stout, with an incredible 197.9 yards allowed per game at home.

There isn’t another defense in the NFL that has allowed less than an average of 265 yards on their home field1. The Browns are all alone in this regard. This has happened despite edge rusher Myles Garrett not recording a sack since November 192.

Garrett is attracting double and even triple teams, which is opening up opportunities for others to make plays. His impact is undoubtedly felt even if he’s not stuffing the stat sheet. Zach Wilson or Trevor Siemian will be left trying to solve the Browns’ defense.

Wilson is progressing from a concussion, but his status remains clear. Regardless, if it’s Wilson or Siemian, they should struggle mightily to move the ball against the Browns. Following their sixth win of the year and a rare high-scoring 30-28 game, the offense should regress at Cleveland.

Flacco is coming off three straight games with more than 300 yards passing. He isn’t shy to air the ball out. In his latest start, he led the Browns to a 36-22 win on the road over the Texans. Flacco passed for 368 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions3.

Flacco won’t go without making any mistakes, but he should have prime field position to operate with throughout the night. The Jets are just 5-9-1 against the spread (ATS) on the road, and 1-3-1 ATS after a win this season.

The Browns are a sharp pick against the spread at this number. Additionally, Flacco should have some extra motivation against the latest team that gave up on him and didn’t sign him when the Jets needed a QB earlier this season.

The Bet
CLEVELAND BROWNS -6.5

TNF Prop Bets

You can find a variety of Thursday Night Football prop bets at online betting sites. We are selecting our best TNF prop bets for the Jets vs. Browns, courtesy of Bovada.

Race To 25

TEAMODDS
New York Jets+1400
Cleveland Browns+150
Neither-164

This is not expected to be a high-scoring matchup. These are two of the best defenses in the NFL going head-to-head. The Browns should force the Jets into multiple mistakes throughout the night.

Expect the Jets to be happy playing the field position game. The game plan for the Jets is to win the field position battle long enough to take advantage of a mistake by Flacco.

They aren’t likely to take too many chances offensively. The same can be said for the Browns. The Browns are the best defense in the league, but the Jets are respected, too. The Jets are fourth in the league, with 294.8 yards allowed per game.

We don’t anticipate the Jets or Browns eclipsing 25 points on Thursday Night Football.

The Bet
NEITHER TEAM

Total Field Goals

FIELD GOALSODDS
Over 2.5-120
Under 2.5-110

As we’ve noted, this should be a defensive contest between the Jets and Browns. Key defensive stops are likely to be the norm. In other words, a field goal is going to feel a lot more than three points.

The Jets and Browns have been known to turn to their field goal kickers often. With 2.2 field goals converted per game, the Browns are tied with the Cowboys for the most field goals converted per game.

The Jets are closely behind the Browns and Cowboys at 2.1 field goals per game4. With Dustin Hopkins dealing with a hamstring injury, the newly signed Riley Patterson will likely start.

Patterson has connected on 15 of his 17 field goal attempts this season. The Lions cut him after missing two recent XPs5. The timing of Patterson’s release works out well for the Browns. We like at least three field goals in this one.

The Bet
OVER 2.5 FIELD GOALS

Team To Score Longest Touchdown

TEAMODDS
New York Jets+170
Cleveland Browns-230

Browns’ head coach Kevin Stefanski is allowing Flacco to air the ball out. Flacco hasn’t had any restrictions placed on him in this offense.

In four games, Flacco has passed for 1,307 yards. That is good for 326.75 yards passing per game. Flacco isn’t hesitating to unload. He’s pushing the ball downfield and taking chances.

The Jets vertical game isn’t scaring anyone, especially the Browns’ secondary. Cleveland leads the NFL, with an average of 160.1 yards passing allowed per game6.

We do not foresee explosive plays from the Jets. Flacco should connect for the longest score of the game.

The Bet
BROWNS LONGEST TD

Thursday Night Football Player Props

Let’s evaluate the best player props for Thursday Night Football. Bovada has a long list of TNF player props for the Jets vs. Browns:

Joe Flacco Total Interceptions

INTERCEPTIONSODDS
Over 0.5-200
Under 0.5+170

While Flacco will pull the trigger downfield, there is a negative that comes with not being conservative. He is throwing interceptions at a high clip.

In his last two starts, Flacco has thrown five interceptions. The 38-year-old, Super Bowl-winning QB has yet to go through a start without an interception.

Flacco has thrown to the other team in all four games. He’s done a lot right and has worked out better than the Browns could have expected. But interceptions have been an issue for Flacco and we expect at least one pick this Thursday.

The Bet
FLACCO OVER 0.5 INTERCEPTIONS

Amari Cooper Total Receiving Yards

YARDSODDS
Over 56.5-115
Under 56.5-115

Flacco has instantly gained a solid rapport with Amari Cooper in the passing game. The former Cowboy has been at his best with Flacco at the controls.

In the last three weeks, Cooper has hauled in 22 receptions, 451 yards, and three touchdowns. He is coming off a monster 265-yard performance against the Texans after 109 yards receiving against the Chicago Bears7.

This is a tough matchup for Cooper, but that is why we are getting some value at 56.5 yards. Flacco will continue to feed Cooper and try to get the ball to him. Based on the volume of targets, this looks like a good spot for Cooper to go Over the total.

The Bet
COOPER OVER 56.5 RECEIVING YDS

Jordan Whitehead Total Tackles and Assists

TACKLES+ASSISTSODDS
Over 5.5-105
Under 5.5-125

Bovada has unique defensive Thursday Night Football player props on the board for Week 17. From the TNF player props available on defensive players, Jets’ safety Jordan Whitehead’s player prop bet carries the best value.

Whitehead is coming off an uncharacteristically average performance against the Commanders. The Commanders scored 28 points in a high-scoring 30-28 final score.

Last week, Whitehead finished with one solo tackle and three assists. That being said, Whitehead has finished with more than five tackles and assists combined in five of his previous seven performances. There should be more opportunities for Whitehead to make an impact on Thursday Night Football.

The Bet
WHITEHEAD OVER 5.5 TACKLES+ASS

Cleveland Browns (-6.5)

The defensive pressure from the Browns should prove to be too much for the Jets. With the Browns closing in on a playoff berth, expect Cleveland Browns Stadium to be a tough place to play for the Jets.

Flacco and the offense should take advantage of great field position throughout the evening. It’s unlikely to be a huge offensive performance from the Browns, but enough to pull away from the Jets for a 10-point win at home.

The Bet
CLEVELAND BROWNS -6.5

Joe Flacco Over 0.5 Interceptions

The Browns are unlikely to head to the winner’s circle with a clean effort. There will be some bumps along the way on Thursday night. The Jets’ defense has too much talent to not come up with a big play or two.

Flacco has impressed in four games with the Browns. After sitting on his couch without a team through the season, the Browns gave Flacco what is likely his last chance at adding another chapter to his 16-year NFL career.

He’s received the green light from Stefanski to attack defenses. It has been effective, but Flacco is prone to throwing interceptions. The Jets will grab one of them before the night is over

The Bet
FLACCO OVER 0.5 INTS
