However, if the Packers struggle against an Atlanta team that has also faltered out of the gate, the season could unravel quickly. The Falcons opened 2026 with a 20-13 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers before suffering an embarrassing 34-3 home defeat against the Carolina Panthers in Week 2.
Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is expected to make his debut after missing the first two games. Backup Cooper Rush has looked abysmal while filling in for the injured Penix and Tua Tagovailoa. If the Packers apply pressure, as I expect them to, this could be another disappointing outing for the Falcons. Despite their own early issues, Green Bay has recorded 3.5 sacks per game, ranking among the NFL’s top five.
The Packers’ run defense has also done its job, allowing just 87 rushing yards per game. The formula for beating Atlanta is straightforward: stop the run and pressure the quarterback. Green Bay is capable of doing both at home on Thursday night.
This is also a favorable spot for Packers’ QB Jordan Love to find his rhythm and get back on track. Love has thrown four touchdowns against one interception, but he has completed just 52.1% of his passes.
He had some numbness in his hand after being hit in the elbow against the Jets, but it doesn’t appear like a serious concern. Love hasn’t gotten much assistance from the offensive line, though the Falcons don’t have a scary pass rush.
