Best Premier League Predictions for Week 1 (With Reasoning)
Here’s a more detailed version of my EPL picks and odds on each, offered by the best soccer betting sites online:
Arsenal vs. Coventry: Arsenal (-143)
Arsenal look ready to hit the ground running, and the 3-0 win over Manchester City only strengthened that feeling. The Gunners looked sharp, confident and hungry, and Coventry face a huge challenge against the reigning champions on the opening day this Friday.
The attacking signs are particularly encouraging. Christos Tzolis was outstanding against City with two assists, while Martin Odegaard is finally back to his old self. If those two can continue creating chances, Arsenal have enough firepower to clear the 2.5 goal line on their own.
There is also a case for Coventry contributing to the total. Arsenal have been shaky at the back in preseason, while the newly promoted visitors are unlikely to sit back completely. Their willingness to take risk could make this more open than expected.
At odds of -143, Arsenal to win and over 2.5 goals is one of the top EPL betting picks this week.
Brentford vs. Tottenham: Both Teams to Score (-170)
Tottenham are going back to their roots under Roberto De Zerbi, and that should mean an aggressive, attacking approach from Spurs. The upside is plenty of chances at the right end, but that style can also leave vulnerabilities at the back.
Brentford look well equipped to take advantage. They have scored plenty of goals during pre season and were excellent at home last year, so there is little reason to expect them to suddenly become passive against an attacking Tottenham side.
This has all the ingredients for an open game. Neither team should be interested in simply sitting back and protecting a clean sheet, which makes both teams to score a very sensible play.
I expected to see odds closer to -200 for this outcome, so getting -170 is excellent value. There should be enough attacking quality and defensive uncertainty on both sides to get both teams on the scoresheet.
Chelsea vs. Fulham: Joao Pedro to Score Anytime (+135)
Chelsea have looked dangerous throughout preseason, regularly finding the net three or more times against decent opponents. Joao Pedro has been heavily involved in that attacking production and looks set to be the main man under Xabi Alons. The Brazilian is ready for the Premier League opener and will be hunting for goals.
Pedro has already shown his finishing touch in August, scoring twice against both AC Milan and Real Sociedad. He’s flying right now, and given how many chances Chelsea usually create, he will have opportunities to score against Fulham.
There is also a matchup angle worth considering. Fulham has been a favorable opponent for Pedro, with the Brazilian scoring twice in his last three games against the London side.
At +135, the price is appealing for a player who enters the season in good scoring form and has already shown he can punish this particular opponent.
