Here are the detailed versions of my UCL best bets for today, October 21.

Aston Villa vs. Viking FC: Villa Win and Both Teams to Score (+125)

Aston Villa endured a slow start to the season but has looked scary recently. The team is on a 6-game unbeaten streak in all tournaments that includes five victories. That strongly resembles last season, when Villa also struggled early on and then improved significantly after the second international break.

The English side is a huge favorite against Viking in the Champions League, but there’s little value in backing the home side at -400 or so. Instead, I prefer to combine a Villa win with both teams to score at +125.

Viking FC’s attack has been on a tear recently, scoring at least twice in six consecutive matches in all tournaments. In fact, you have to go back to July 12 to find a match in which the team failed to find the net.

That run includes three goals against Bayern Munich last week, so it’s not like Viking have been only scoring in their domestic league. The club’s entire identity is built around attacking soccer, so I don’t expect them to suddenly play defensively.

If you add Villa’s fairly leaky defense (11 goals allowed in 7 EPL games), I can certainly see a goal in this one for the visitors. When you combine that with a home win, you get a nice price and one of the best Champions League bets today.

The Bet
Villa Win & BTTS
Bovada
+125

Bayern Munich vs. Arsenal: Under 1 Goals at HT (+145)

Most people expect fireworks in this one, based on Bayern Munich’s attacking philosophy. I certainly understand that, but the German side has had slow starts in multiple games this season and they will be facing one of the best defense in Europe on Wednesday.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal is obsessed with controlling games and defending in numbers, so I expect a tight first half. The Gunners will try to weather the storm and are unlikely to take big risks early on.

Furthermore, they have been toothless in most of their opening halves this season. Arsenal haven’t scored before the interval in five consecutive Premier League games, and I expect more of the same against Bayern.

I won’t be surprised to see a goalless draw at half time, and the under goal 1 option at the break is quite nice at +145.

First Half Under 1

+145
