2026 Genesis Championship Preview and Best Bets – by Ginger Joe

The Genesis Championship heads to Woo Jeong Hills Country Club in Cheonan, South Korea, for the final event of the regular DP World Tour season, and there’s plenty at stake this week. With players fighting to secure their playing rights for next season and others looking to book their place in the Play-offs, it should make for an interesting week.

As always, I provide my course analysis and best bets in this Genesis Championship 2026 betting preview. Here’s a quick snapshot of my squad before I dissect the course.

2026 Genesis Championship Course Analysis

Woo Jeong Hills is a par 71 measuring 7,367 yards, and it’s a proper test of ball striking. The course is quite hilly, with plenty of elevation changes, and although the fairways are relatively generous, there is water to contend with on plenty of holes.

The real test though, looks set to come on the greens. They were renovated ahead of last year’s tournament, and the slopes and subtle breaks make them tricky to read. Distance control on approach will be important, and simply hitting greens isn’t necessarily enough if you’re leaving yourself in the wrong spots.

I wouldn’t be against siding with players who can get it out there off the tee, as the fairways should give the bigger hitters opportunities, but I want to see a strong all-round ball striking game here.

Approach play, greens in regulation and the ability to handle difficult putting surfaces are the key areas for me. With the pressure of the end of season standings thrown into the mix, it’ll be interesting to see who handles the occasion best.

It’s a strong field too, with the likes of Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im representing the home players, among those involved, so there is plenty of quality on show. For me, this looks a week to focus on the players who can keep the ball in play, control their distances and give themselves plenty of chances with the putter. Get those things right, and I think you’ll be in a good position to go well here.

1. Thomas Detry (+1800)

Thomas Detry feels to me like a player who has won nowhere near what his talent suggests he should have. He has length off the tee, effortless power, long towering irons, a solid short game, and he has now shown he can win after carding a final round 65 to win the Phoenix Open on the PGA Tour.

The Phoenix Open win is his only win though, and it really is underwhelming when you see how good of a player he is. Currently, Detry is in really good form with two top 10s in his last three starts, and his attributes fit this course really well.

That effortless power I mentioned will be welcomed here, and that is always going to be an advantage with the approach shots. Playing them from a closer yardage, when there is so much danger surrounding the greens, just makes it all feel easier.

His iron play has actually been one of his most impressive factors in the last few months. Detry is a player that can do almost anything when he strikes the ball well, and he should really enjoy this course. He can hit a soft draw, he can hit a soft fade, so he has all sorts of options at this golf course. If he can utilise that, then he has a big chance of getting very competitive this week.

2. Kazuma Kobori (+12500)

Coming into this event following two missed cuts may not inspire the formbook punters, but I think Kazuma Kobori will really enjoy the set-up this week at Woo Jeong Hills.

He actually ranks first for driving accuracy on the DP World Tour at nearly 72%, and he hits a high percentage of greens in regulation too, up in the high 60s. I like that set-up straight away, because it feels like the sort of attributes you need for this course.

His putting would be a concern for sure, but I think he will like these greens, and everything about this course does suggest we could see the best version of Kazuma this week. Like I said, he comes into this off the back of two missed cuts, which is always a concern.

However, I think he will come here feeling quietly confident, and at a big price, he could outplay his odds for sure. The venue is one of the better set-ups of the year for Kazuma, you’d think, so he sneaks into the squad quietly at +12500.

3. Shaun Norris (+6500)

Shaun Norris is a player I have backed a few times when he has won, but plenty of times when he has lost also! However, something a lot may not know, is that outside of his two DP World Tour wins, he has actually won 9 times on the Japan Tour, including the Mizuno Championship in May this year with a score of 24 under par.

Out in places like Japan, Korea, and even in China, golf courses typically require a really good short game. This is how Shaun Norris has managed to succeed so often out in that part of the world. So I think he needs to be considered here, especially off the back of a little break since the French Open last month.

He may just have needed that too. It’s been a long season for him to date, and his five top 7’s haven’t yet been rewarded with a win. Since August, his game almost levelled out a small degree.

I think Norris will feel refreshed coming here this week, and considering he has repeatedly been so good in this part of the world over the years, I do think it’s worth getting back on the Shaun Norris train.
