The opening 2025 NHL Western Conference Final odds show us that online bookmakers have this series as a toss-up. Both the Oilers and the Stars have been outstanding in the postseason, so who should you bet on?

2025 NHL Western Conference Final Betting Odds
The following NHL West Finals odds are courtesy of Bovada:
TEAM | SERIES WINNER | SERIES SPREAD | SERIES TOTAL GAMES |
---|---|---|---|
Edmonton Oilers | +107 | +1.5 (-235) | Over 6.5 (+105) |
Dallas Stars | -128 | -1.5 (+195) | Under 6.5 (-125) |
The Dallas Stars (-128) are slightly favored to win the 2025 Western Conference Final over the Edmonton Oilers (+107). Currently, the Stars have a 56.1% implied probability to advance to their first Stanley Cup Final since 2020.
They are coming off a second-round series win over the Winnipeg Jets in six games. The Jets were Presidents’ Cup champs, but the Stars were the better team and deservingly moved on to the West Final.
The best NHL betting sites are expecting a close series against the Oilers. With the series over/under at 6.5 games and the Oilers’ series spread of +1.5, favored at -235 odds, there is a decent chance of this one going the distance to Game 7.

Edmonton Oilers – Déjà vu in Edmonton?
- Head Coach: Kris Knoblauch
- Regular Season Record: 48-29-5
- NHL Conference Titles: 8
- Key Players: Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman, Evan Bouchard
The Oilers are in a familiar spot after winning the West title last season. They defeated the Dallas Stars in six games to secure their ticket to the Stanley Cup Final. It was a competitive series, with the Oilers ultimately edging out the Stars in Game 6, 2-1.
Are we going to see a repeat of last year’s matchup? With the NHL West Final 2025 betting odds giving the Stars the edge, oddsmakers are not sure! The Oilers enter the third round with some familiar faces in the starting lineup.

Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid proved to be a formidable duo once again in 2024-25. Draisaitl finished with the third-most points in the regular season and led the NHL in goals with 52 to win the Rocket Richard Trophy. While McDavid wasn’t as statistically impressive, his impact was undoubtedly felt in Edmonton.
With 3.91 goals per game, the Oilers have been the most impressive offense of teams remaining in the playoffs. The Panthers’ 3.75 goals per game is the closest production to the Oilers. Although I have no concerns with the offense, can the defense and goaltending stand up to the Stars?
Edmonton is ninth in the playoffs, with 3.09 goals against per game. They were just 14th in the regular season, allowing an average of 2.87 goals a contest. It’s going to come down to the goaltending of Stuart Skinner, and possibly Calvin Pickard if Skinner struggles out of the gate.
As we witnessed against the Golden Knights, Skinner can be elite at times. However, he can also be inconsistent and lay an egg. In five postseason matchups, Skinner has a 3.05 GAA and 0.884 save percentage. Which goalie shows up versus the Stars? Skinner can be hard to trust, so I have my qualms.
Dallas Stars – Revenge on the Menu?
- Head Coach: Peter DeBoer
- Regular Season Record: 50-26-6
- NHL Conference Titles: 3
- Key Players: Mikko Rantanen, Jacob Robertson, Roope Hintz, Miro Heiskanen
The Stars have had a potential rematch against the Oilers circled for a year now. They have their chance to bounce Edmonton and continue the road for their first Stanley Cup since 1999! That team featured Mike Modano and Joe Nieuwendyk, who are forever etched in Stars’ lore.
Will Mikko Rantanen join the history books in Dallas? He had an unconventional road to Dallas. After being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in January, Rantanen was shopped to Dallas at the trade deadline. He had no interest in re-signing in Raleigh, so the Finnish star found a new home in Texas!

It’s been a massive acquisition for the Stars, who already had a stout roster before his arrival. However, they needed an offensive star to push them over the top, and Rantanen is delivering. He leads all players in the playoffs, with 19 points and nine goals. Rantanen is exactly who the Stars needed to elevate the offense.
The Stars are most certainly the most battle-tested squad remaining in the playoffs. They’ve already defeated two teams that were qualified to win the Stanley Cup this season.
If the Colorado Avalanche get past the Stars in the first round, we might be talking about them going to the Stanley Cup Final. After ousting the Avs, the Stars had to beat the Presidents’ Cup champs in the next round.
Stars’ goaltender Jake Oettinger had to hold off two potent offenses and came up huge in spots. Through 13 playoff games, the 26-year-old Minnesota native has a 2.47 GAA and 0.919 save percentage. I trust Oettinger more than Skinner to impact this series.

Additionally, the Stars’ third and fourth lines offer a bit more than the Oilers. Give me Mason Marchment and Evgenii Dadonov on the depth lines over the Oilers in this series. That said, can the Stars overcome McDavid and Draisaitl?
NHL Western Conference Final 2025 Predictions and Betting Pick
After two grueling series, depth becomes a critically important factor in the conference championships. More to that point, goaltending can be the difference between two evenly matched teams.
When you look at Skinner and Oettinger, who do you trust more between the pipes? I’ll admit, Skinner has the potential to play out of his mind and guide the Oilers back to the Stanley Cup Final. However, I’m more inclined to believe that Oettinger is going to steal more games in this series.
The Stars are a better team than they were a season ago. That was a series that could have gone in either direction. If Rantanen is on the ice for the Stars, it may have been a different ending. I agree with oddsmakers that this has the makings of a six or seven-game series.
Home-ice advantage in Dallas may play a pivotal factor. The Oilers went just 23-16-2 on the road in the regular season. They enter at 4-2-0 in the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Stars posted a 28-10-3 regular season mark, and 6-1-0 at the American Airlines Center in the postseason.
For my 2025 NHL West Final betting pick, I am siding with the Stars to win the series in a thriller against the Oilers!
