Oliver, Meyers Also on the List for Online Sportsbooks
Kimmel made his return to Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday night, after he was suspended last week due to comments made about the death of Charlie Kirk. The move was polarizing, as one side was speaking on the merits of free speech, while others celebrated Disney’s suspension of Kimmel.
Online sportsbooks, such as BetOnline, now have odds on which shows and late-night hosts could be next in line for any trouble. The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon is the favorite, followed by The Daily Show, hosted by Jon Stewart. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Late Night with Seth Meyers, Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the Howard Stern Show, and Saturday Night Live are also on the board.
There are odds on the board at other entertainment betting sites for Kimmel’s potential replacement, although those are gone now. But the favorite was Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld.
Why Are the Late-Night Shows in Trouble?
There are many theories as to why these shows could be in trouble, and these are just theories. Many feel the Trump administration got involved with the Kimmel suspension as it is the butt of many jokes from all the late-night shows.
But there is also the case of poor ratings, as many people don’t stay up to watch late-night shows like they used to. Now, people watch the show the next day, or ingest it via clips on X and YouTube.
These shows are also reportedly expensive to create each night, which is another reason why some of these shows could face troubling situations. It was reported that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was being cancelled, claiming it was a “financial decision.
Whichever theory you choose to believe, it’ll be interesting to see what happens from here, as one thing is for sure: the late-night and talk-show landscape has changed dramatically!
