Here are the latest odds for Alvarez vs. Charlo, courtesy of BetUS.

FighterMoneyline OddsTotal Rounds
Jermell Charlo+300Over 10.5 (-320)
Canelo Alvarez-400Under 10.5 (+245)

Canelo Alvarez is one of the most recognizable faces in boxing. At 59-2-2, the 33-year-old is also one of the most successful competitors of the modern era.

Alvarez is a huge favorite going into his title defense this Saturday. The oddsmakers at BetUS have Canelo listed at -400 to win this big fight on Saturday. Jermell Charlo, on the other hand, is a moderate underdog at +300.

Jermell Charlo’s Recent Fights

The “Iron Man” has been significantly less active since suffering his first career loss to Tony Harrison in December 2018. Charlo has had just five fights since then, going 4-0-1 in that stretch.

Charlo avenged his loss to Harrison just one year later with a KO win in the 11th round. The other blemish on his recent record is a draw with Brian Castano in July 2021. The pair matched up again in May 2022, with Charlo getting a KO win in the 10th round.

The biggest key to Charlo’s recent success has been his ability to finish opponents. He has only gone the distance in two fights in the last five years. All four of his wins in that span have come via KO.

Canelo Alvarez’s Recent Fights

Alvarez suffered just his second career loss in May 2022. He has won back-to-back fights since his defeat to Dmitry Bivol.

Since the start of the decade, Alvarez has had seven total fights. He has gone 6-1 over that stretch. Four of those seven fights, including his loss to Bivol, went the distance.

Also included in Canelo’s recent bouts is his trilogy fight with Gennady Golovkin. Alvarez won the September 2022 bout by unanimous decision to improve to 2-0-1 against Triple G.

Charlo is the bigger fighter despite competing in a lighter weight class. Alvarez will need to overcome a size and reach disadvantage to get the win in Las Vegas this weekend.

Can Charlo Upset Canelo?

Charlo (35-1-1) has a chance to add his name to the short list of people to beat Alvarez. Canelo has only lost twice in his career, with his most recent defeat coming at the hands of Dmitry Bivol in May 2022. His other loss came against Floyd Mayweather in September 2013.

Winning will be easier said than done, though. Charlo is moving up multiple weight classes, from 154 to 168 pounds, to take this fight. Canelo’s experience fighting at this weight class is one of his biggest advantages.

Charlo is the bigger fighter, standing 5’11” compared to Canelo’s 5’8”. He also has the reach advantage, which should help him control the fight. Charlo needs to make the most of these advantages to get the upset in Las Vegas.

Also, I think Charlo’s best chance to emerge victorious is to stop Canelo with a KO/TKO. The extra weight he is carrying will likely affect Charlo more and more as the fight goes on.

A Long Fight Favors Canelo Alvarez

Defeating Charlo this weekend would only add to Alvarez’s legendary status. He normally fights at a lighter weight, but Charlo’s undisputed status adds importance to this matchup.

Securing the win is hardly a guarantee. Alvarez is a sizeable favorite, but that does not mean he is in for an easy night of boxing.

Canelo is the crafty veteran in this matchup and has the advantage of being used to fighting at this weight. He knows how to conserve his energy for a full 12 rounds in this division. This should give him a big advantage if he can drag this bout into the latter rounds.

Out-pointing Charlo could be Canelo’s best path to victory. Alvarez has not finished an opponent in nearly two years, and all three of his most recent fights have gone to a decision.

Alvarez vs. Charlo Betting Prediction

The bout between Alvarez and Charlo this Saturday is one of the biggest matches in recent memory. Whoever comes out on top will be able to say they defeated another undisputed champion.

But the question still remains, who will win in this unprecedented matchup? Oddsmakers are favoring Canelo, and I tend to agree with them.

Canelo Alvarez’s odds of winning this fight are currently listed at -400 at the best online betting sites. However, he is facing a bigger, longer opponent, which has given him trouble in the past. There is also a lot of pressure on Alvarez to win as he continues his quest for a rematch with Bivol.

Charlo, on the other hand, has fewer expectations weighing him down. If his KO power translates to the heavier weight class, Charlo could stop the legendary Canelo. Assuming he can use his physical tools to his advantage, I believe Jermell Charlo’s odds of winning are higher than people think.

In the end, though, I am leaning toward Alvarez emerging victorious from this fight. So, I would wager on Canelo to win (-400) in what should be an exciting, long bout.

Best Prop Bets for Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo

In addition to betting on the winner of Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo, top sportsbooks also have great prop bets available for this historic matchup. Here are three of my favorite prop betting markets available at BetUS for this fight.

What Will Be the Winning Round?

Winning RoundOdds
Rounds 1-3+1800
Rounds 4-6+800
Rounds 7-9+600
Rounds 10-12+800
The fight goes the distance -275

Oddsmakers at most boxing sportsbooks are favoring this fight to go until at least the final two rounds. If you want a more exact final round bet than the traditional over/under, then this prop bet is a great option.

The favored option in this wager is for the Alvarez vs. Charlo fight to go the distance (-275). Or you can wager on specific sets of rounds. Each betting option contains three rounds.

I agree that this fight should be a long one, but I would not bet on it to go the distance. Instead, I would bet on it to end at some point in the final three rounds. I think Charlo’s lack of experience in the latter rounds in this weight class will cost him.

The “rounds 10-12” option offers a +800 payout, so even a small wager can significantly improve your payout.

Does The Alveraz vs. Charlo Fight Go the Distance?

BetOdds
Yes-275
No+200

Another way to wager on the length of this fight is to place a specific prop bet about whether it will go the distance. The “yes” option in this bet has the same odds, -275, as the going the distance option above.

However, both of these bets have better payout odds than the traditional over/under rounds bet. Oddsmakers have this fight listed at -320 to go over 10.5 rounds. There is only a small window for this fight to go over 10.5 rounds but not go the distance.

So, if you do think Canelo and Charlo go the full 12 rounds, this is the better bet. However, I think this fight is settled in the ring, without the judges getting involved. I would take the no (+200) option in this bet.

The Bet
Alvarez vs. Charlo does not go distance

Charlo wins by KO/TKO or DQ+950
Charlo wins by decision+475
Alvarez wins by KO/TKO or DQ+240
Alvarez wins by decision-130
Draw/Technical draw+1600

BetUS also has great prop bets available for the winning conditions of this fight. Canelo is favored to defeat Charlo by decision (-130). There are five options to choose from.

The trick to this wager, is picking the option that aligns with your other bets. For instance, I think Canelo is the winner, so I would eliminate the options that require Charlo to win. I also think that the fight does not go the distance, which leaves only one option: Alvarez wins by KO/TKO or DQ (+240).
