Artur Beterbiev Record

Artur Beterbiev made his professional debut in November 2013. In more than a decade since then, he has been nothing short of dominant. He has won all 19 fights in his career by knockout.

Beterbiev is putting more than just his undefeated record on the line this weekend. His WBC, IBF, and WBO light heavyweight titles will also be up for grabs. This will be his second straight fight will all three titles on the line.

Despite being in his late 30s, Beterbiev has not shown any signs of slowing down. Since 2018, he has stopped five of his seven opponents before the 10th round. In June 2022, he earned a TKO win over Joe Smith Jr. in just the second round.

This will be Beterbiev’s first fight in nearly a year. He also turns 39 years old later this month, and his age will catch up with him eventually.

Russia’s Artur Beterbiev, left, walks away after sending Germany’s Adam Deines to the canvas.

Artur Beterbiev Stats

Beterbiev has earned a KO or TKO victory in all 19 of his professional fights. The only fighter to make it to the final round against Beterbiev was Enrico Koelling. Koelling was knocked out with less than 30 seconds remaining in their fight in November 2017.

As you would expect, Beterbiev has claimed plenty of gold during his undefeated career. He won his first title in 2014 with a second-round KO of Tavoris Cloud. The win over Cloud awarded Beterbiev the vacant NABA light heavyweight title.

Other titles Beterbiev has won during his professional career include:

  • IBF North American light heavyweight title
  • NABO light heavyweight title
  • WBO International light heavyweight title
  • IBF light heavyweight title
  • WBC light heavyweight title
  • WBO light heavyweight title

Beterbiev’s most recent title win came against Joe Smith Jr. in June 2022. He defeated Smith by knockout in the second round to claim the WBO light heavyweight title.

Callum Smith Record

The man tasked with trying to dethrone Beterbiev this weekend is Callum Smith. Smith has won back-to-back fights since losing to Canelo Alvarez in December 2020. Prior to his loss to Canelo, Smith had racked up a 27-0 record to start his career.

The loss to Canelo was via unanimous decision. Smith has knocked out both of his opponents since then, giving him 21 knockouts in his career.

Smith’s loss to Canelo was at super middleweight, where he spent the majority of his career. However, he has since moved up to light heavyweight and is 6-0 at 175 pounds so far in his career. This will be Smith’s title fight in the weight class.

Also, this will be Smith’s first-ever professional fight in Canada. He has fought the majority of his career in the UK. Smith has three fights in North America, but all three, including his loss to Canelo, were in the US.

Callum Smith

Callum Smith Stats

Smith started his career 27-0 and won plenty of gold along the way. He earned his first title opportunity in 2013 against Patrick Mendy. Smith defeated Mendy via KO in the first round to win the vacant English super middleweight title.

He has won many other super middleweight titles during his career, including:

  • WBC International super middleweight title
  • WBS silver super middleweight title
  • British super middleweight title
  • European super middleweight title
  • WBA (Super) middleweight title
  • The Ring super middleweight title

Smith lost the WBS (Super) and The Ring super middleweight belts to Canelo in their fight in December 2020. That fight also had the vacant WBC super middleweight belt up for grabs.

Despite his experience at super middleweight, Smith has never fought for a title at light heavyweight. He did attempt to join the British team in the 2012 Olympics at light heavyweight. However, multiple controversial decisions kept Smith from making the team, and he turned pro instead.

Beterbiev is undefeated, but he will be at a potentially significant size and reach disadvantage against Smith. Smith also has the experience advantage, having 11 more professional fights than Beterbiev.

My bigger concern, though, is the jaw infection that Beterbiev had to deal with last summer. This will be his first fight since having surgery to address the infection.

Beterbiev (-475) is still a heavy favorite, though, despite his age and recent health issues. He has had plenty of time to heal since the surgery, too. So, assuming that there are no ill effects from the surgery, I would stick with the undefeated Beterbiev in this fight.

Artur Beterbiev vs. Callum Smith Prop Bets

The current odds would make it challenging to win a significant amount of money by wagering on Beterbiev. Luckily, Bovada has plenty of prop bets available for this light heavyweight title fight.

Method of Victory

  • Beterbiev wins by KO, TKO, or DQ (-225)
  • Beterbiev wins by decision or technical decision (+450)
  • Smith wins by KO, TKO, or DQ (+450)
  • Smith wins by decision or technical decision (+800)
  • Draw or technical draw (+1600)

One of my favorite Callum Smith vs. Artur Beterbiev prop wagers is this method of victory betting market. All you need to do is pick the fighter you think will win and then decide how they will claim victory.

As I mentioned above, I think Beterbiev will get the win this weekend. Also, I think that he will keep his 100% knockout rate. That option in this bet has the shortest odds at -225.

The Bet
Beterbiev wins KO, TKO, or DQ

Final Round

  • Rounds 1-6 (+300)
  • Rounds 7-12 (-125)

Bovada also has a variety of options for betting on which round will be the final round in Beterbiev vs. Smith. My favorite is the option that splits the fight into two halves.

I think that this option is the simplest way to bet on the winning round for this fight. Also, I think it is easier to pick the correct outcome than betting on a specific round. I think the fight goes more than half of the 12 rounds it is scheduled for, and I would take the “rounds 7-12 (-125)” option in this bet.

The winning RD is in RDs 7-12

Alternate Totals Round

Bovada also has great alternate totals betting markets available for Artur Beterbiev vs. Callum Smith. For instance, you can bet on an alternate over/under for the total number of rounds.

I think this fight will go into at least the 10th round. You can bet on over 9.5 rounds at +105 odds. The over on 8.5 rounds is only listed at -130, and I think the improved payout odds are worth the risk of adding the extra round.

The Bet
Total rounds over 9.5 RDs
