Maui Invitational 2025 Betting Preview: Odds, Favorites, & Predictions

NC State Wolfpack (+190)

The NC State Wolfpack are the only team ranked in the AP Top 25 competing in the Maui Invitational, holding the 25th spot nationally after a 4-0 start. They are coming off an 85-79 win over the VCU Rams.

Last season, the Wolfpack struggled, finishing 12-19 overall and 5-15 in the ACC. However, with head coach Will Wade now at the helm, this year’s squad looks vastly improved. The addition of forward Darrion Williams, a former Texas Tech standout, has been a game-changer.

Williams transforms NC State into a legitimate threat, especially if he stays healthy. He has started strong, averaging 23.3 points on 61.1% shooting, along with 6.3 rebounds and four assists per game.

The 6’6” Sacramento native posted 28 and 32 points in his last two games. Alongside Michigan State transfer Tre Holloman and Paul McNeil Jr., Williams form the tournament’s top trio. McNeil Jr., after a limited freshman role, is emerging with 15.3 points per game on 46.3% shooting. Holloman also made an impact, scoring 25 points and hitting three three-pointers against VCU.

Overall, NC State is one of the most underrated teams in the NCAA and is nothing like last season’s 12-19 squad. The Wolfpack could be the most dangerous team in Maui this week.

Texas Longhorns (+210)

The Longhorns head to Maui riding some momentum. After a 75-60 loss to Duke, Texas has rebounded with four straight blowout wins over Lafayette, Florida Dominion, Kansas City, and Rider. Their only true challenge so far has been the loss to Duke.

Duke is the only tournament-caliber opponent Texas has faced, and that game didn’t go well on a neutral court at the Spectrum Center. Cameron Boozer and Isiah Evans dominated, exposing weaknesses in Texas’s defense. Offensively, I’d like to see guard Jordan Pope find his rhythm.

So far, Pope has been underwhelming, averaging 8.8 points per game on just 27.1% shooting, and a shaky 66.7% from the free-throw line. He averaged 11 points per game last season, following a career-high 17.6 points per game at Oregon State in 2023-24. Guard Dailyn Swain needs support in the backcourt, and Pope needs to step up.

Center Matas Vokietaitis, a Lithuanian transfer from Florida Atlantic, anchors the Longhorns. He leads the team with 16 points per game on 67.5% shooting and has grabbed 7.2 rebounds per game through five games.

For Texas to contend in this tournament, Vokietaitis must outperform Williams, and Pope needs to contribute more offensively. While Texas is a contender, I’d only consider betting on them at +275 or better.

USC Trojans (+270)

The USC Trojans have made easy work of their schedule thus far. They haven’t skipped a beat against inferior opponents, but haven’t faced a competitive team yet. USC is 3-0 on the year after easy wins over Cal Poly, 94-64, Manhattan, 114-83, and Illinois State, 87-67.

They recorded a mediocre mark of 17-18 a year after going 15-18. With Bronny James and Isaiah Collier on the roster, the 2023-24 team was a huge disappointment to finish three games below .500. That’s been the overarching theme of USC basketball over the last two decades.

The basketball program has had talent come through their doors, but the Trojans can never seem to put everything together. I expect them to get above the .500 threshold, but there isn’t much more to look forward to in Los Angeles.

That being said, I like the Trojans’ backcourt with Chad Baker-Mazara and Rodney Rice. This is one of the best 1-2 guard combos in the Big Ten. They are going to put up big numbers throughout the season, and have already done so through USC’s first three games.

Baker-Mazara has been on fire with 18.7 points per game on 44.4% shooting. Rice is carrying his weight as well, with 18.7 points per game, six rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game. Can the Trojans’ frontcourt step up to give USC an extra lift?

Forwards Jacob Cofie, and Ezra Ausar aren’t necessarily a weak point of this roster, but the backcourt is the obvious catalyst. I think USC is good enough to compete, but likely fall short.

Boise State Broncos (+2000)

Arizona State has the shortest odds of the underdogs, but there is little value at +1200. Instead, consider betting on Boise State to win the Maui Invitational. At +2000, the Broncos are worth a small bet in this spot.

Boise State heads into the tournament in good shape with four consecutive wins to open the season. They are on the heels of a 62-59 win over a quality Wichita State squad. While Boise State doesn’t have experience against an elite program this season, that was a good win over the Shockers.

The Broncos have an aggressive defense that should give teams issues. Note that Boise State ranks 36th in the NCAA, with 64.8 points against per game. With Andrew Meadow and Drew Fielder in the frontcourt, Boise State has some size up front. If guard Dylan Andrews can get hot from the perimeter, they are going to be in business.
