Who Will Win Cy Young 2025?
The latest betting odds suggest that Paul Skenes will win the National League Cy Young Award in 2025, while Tarik Skubal is the favorite in the American League.
However, there’s still a lot of baseball to be played this year, so multiple other pitchers like Zack Wheeler, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Chris Sale (NL) and Max Fried, Hunter Brown, and Garrett Crochet (AL) still have a shot at the award.
MLB Cy Young 2025 Betting Odds
We are breaking down the most up-to-date Cy Young odds for the AL and NL Young at MLB sportsbooks. Below find the latest prices, and then we’ll delve into our 2025 CY Young picks.
2025 NL Cy Young Odds
The following NL Cy Young betting odds are courtesy of Bovada:
PLAYER ODDS Paul Skenes (PIT) -250 Zack Wheeler (PHI) +400 Logan Webb (SF) +800 Cristopher Sanchez (PHI) +1800 Yoshinobu Yamamoto (LAD) +2200 MacKenzie Gore (WSH) +3000 Spencer Schwellenback (ATL) +3000 Robbie Ray (SF) +3000
Paul Skenes (-225) remains the betting favorite to win the NL Cy Young. However, after a shaky effort versus the Milwaukee Brewers, Skenes’ NL Cy Young odds have regressed to -225. Last week, Skenes had a -340 price to win the Cy Young.
In other words, the Pirates’ ace has witnessed a drop in implied probability from 77.3% to 71.4%. That’s a fair shift, though Skenes is still the pitcher to beat for the Cy Young in the National League. Zack Wheeler (+400) has been on the rise over the last month.
The Phillies’ starter has the second-best odds after sitting at +850 just last week, so, strong improvement from 10.5% to 20%! Conversely, Dodgers’ Yoshinobu Yamamoto (+2200) has watched his odds tank, along with his ERA, after a couple of trouble spots recently.
Chris Sale (+8000) was among the top contenders, but a recent injury has derailed his chances. Logan Webb (+800) has taken over Yamamoto and Sale’s position, as the Giants’ ace has the third-shortest price!
AL Cy Young Odds
The following AL Cy Young betting odds are courtesy of Bovada:
PLAYER ODDS Tarik Skubal (DET) -135 Garrett Crochet (BOS) +350 Hunter Brown (HOU) +450 Max Fried (NYY) +900 Jacob deGrom (TEX) +1100 Framber Valdez (HOU) +4000 Kris Bubic (KC) +5000 Carlos Rodon (NYY) +5000
Tarik Skubal (-135) is the favorite to win the AL Cy Young, but his price has taken a considerable dive on MLB betting sites. Like Skenes, following an uncharacteristically poor effort, Skubal’s Cy Young betting odds have regressed.
In mid-June, Skubal had a -260 price to win the AL Cy Young. He’s nearing even odds, as Skubal is down to -135 with July approaching. In other words, Skubal, who has had the leading odds for the whole season, is down to a 57.4% implied chance from 72.2% a week ago!
The Red Sox, Garrett Crochet (+350), is in the mix after falling out of favor earlier this month. Crochet had +900 odds to win the AL Cy Young on June 20, but is down to +350! This represents a 10% to 22.2% change in one week. Max Fried (+900), who has been close to the top of the board this season, has slipped.
The Yankees’ ace was +700, with the second-best odds behind Skubal. While his price didn’t fall drastically, he did move down from the second to fourth-best AL Cy Young odds!

NL Cy Young 2025 Betting Favorites
Now, let’s dissect and analyze the NL Cy Young betting markets for the top favorites. Three pitchers stand out as the strongest contenders, so let’s jump straight in.
Paul Skenes (-250)
Although Skenes hasn’t been perfect this season, the Pirates’ sophomore star is locked in after a couple of early speed bumps. It’s been a predictably horrible season for the Pirates, but Skenes continues to pitch like one of the best in baseball.
At only 23 years old, Skenes owns a 2.12 ERA and 0.91 WHIP through 17 starts and 106 innings. He’s coming off a rare misstep against the Milwaukee Brewers on June 25. Skenes was tagged for four runs in the 2nd inning, as his ERA ballooned to 2.12 from 1.85.
Prior to that performance, Skenes was on fire with two or fewer earned runs allowed in nine straight performances. Skenes has also given up one or none through seven of his previous nine outings. He hasn’t conceded more than four hits since May 12!

After the announcement that he will be participating in the World Baseball Classic, Skenes mowed down the Mets with six hits and one earned run allowed. Since that effort on May 12, he was unhittable before the Brewers got to him for an inning. Note, though, that Skenes didn’t allow a run in three of those four innings on the mound — it appears to be nothing more than an outlier. Skenes continues to rank first in the MLB in pitching WAR.
Pitchers from losing teams have a tougher time winning the Cy Young — that is the 32-50 Pirates. However, he is too good and one of the only pitchers who can overcome an unfavorable team record.
Skenes is unlikely to be thrown off his red-hot form. The run he is on isn’t a fluke, so expect the outstanding work to continue for Skenes. Although his NL Cy Young odds have grown too high to warrant a huge play since I backed him at +230, he is the clear frontrunner.
Zack Wheeler (+400)
As is customary for Phillies’ ace Wheeler, he is near the top of the board for the Cy Young! Close, but no cigar is the story of Wheeler’s career when it comes to winning the Cy Young award.
Last year, he finished second in Cy Young voting behind Atlanta’s Chris Sale. Wheeler received four first-place votes, while Sale collected 26. He’s been close several times in his career, but has never been able to oust the top vote getter.
Early indications this season, and the latest NL CY Young odds, suggest that Wheeler is going to miss out again. That said, the pitcher can only control what he can, and he’s having another strong season in Philadelphia. Wheeler plans to retire after the 2027 season, so the clock is ticking on Wheeler adding a Cy Young to cap off a historic career.

Wheeler has posted an ERA of 2.55, 126 strikeouts, and a 0.93 WHIP through 16 games and 99 innings. There is plenty of work to do if he’s going to catch up to Skenes, but he’s having a solid year regardless. He’s allowed one or no earned runs in seven of his last eight outings and in four consecutive performances.
After a rocky April, Wheeler posted a 1.17 ERA in May and has notched a .183 OBA thus far in June. As a result, Wheeler’s 2025 Cy Young odds are on the move and he’s right in the conversation once again!
Logan Webb (+800)
It was only one week ago that I was talking about Webb as one of the best longshot NL Cy Young picks! On June 20, I locked in Webb to win the Cy Young at +2000.
Now, Webb is among the top favorites to capture the prestigious award! At +800, Webb is in the top three to win the NL Cy Young in 2025. He’s making it hard for bettors to ignore him, as Webb is in fantastic form at the moment.
The 28-year-old veteran from Rocklin, CA, has been one of the most consistent starters in the Majors since entering the league in 2019. And, in 2025, Webb has picked things up a notch and is in the conversation for the NL Cy Young!
Webb heads into his 18th start with an ERA of 2.52 and a 1.14 WHIP. As has been the case throughout his career, he’s consistently delivering with two or fewer earned runs in five straight performances since June 2.
Logan Webb has 862.2 IP since 2021 (most in the MLB) and has a 3.10 ERA over that stretch.

He can’t afford too many shellings to remain with the top contenders. However, Webb is one of the most predictable pitchers in baseball, and I don’t expect that to happen. I don’t know if there’s great value at +800, at least compared to the +2000 ticket I bet last week, but expect Webb to continue rolling.
AL Cy Young 2025 Betting Favorites
Let’s switch leagues now and check out the top favorites to win the Cy Young in the American League:
Tarik Skubal (-135)
Skubal has his eyes set on back-to-back Cy Youngs in the American League after he ran away with the honor in 2024. The 28-year-old’s work on the mound this season would have everyone believing that Skubal is well on his way. Additionally, the AL Cy Young odds point to a win for the Tigers’ ace.
Ladies and gentlemen, TARIK SKUBAL 😤
His last 4 starts:
30.2 IP
1 ER
0.29 ERA
32/2 K/BB pic.twitter.com/RcJQbPhRFc— MLB (@MLB) June 13, 2025
That being said, Skubal has had a few tough outings this season. The Dodgers got to Skubal for four earned runs in five innings in the opener. He bounced back and has been sensational, but five earned runs against the Red Sox, and recently got hit hard by the Athletics.
Skubal gave up six hits and four earned runs in an unexpectedly lousy showing. The Tigers’ ace watched his odds to win the AL Cy Young award deteriorate quickly after that effort. On June 20, Skubal was at -260 to win, so this is a fairly notable hit to his bid.
Nevertheless, Skubal’s 2.29 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and 125 strikeouts put him ahead of the competition. Additionally, he just doesn’t know how to walk batters, as he’s yielded just 13 in 102 innings! If you prefer to use WAR as the most important metric, he’s behind Crochet and Fried with a 3.4.
Skubal is undoubtedly in Cy Young form and is capable of winning again, but it’s difficult to win back-to-back awards in the American League. Pedro Martinez was the last pitcher to do so in 1999 and 2000!
If votes were counted today, the Tigers’ ace would easily cruise to the top. The way I see it, however, there are stronger odds to win the AL Cy Young available, even though -135 is the best price I’ve seen this year.
Garrett Crochet (+350)
Crochet’s Cy Young odds have gone up and down this season! The Red Sox hurler is on a roller coaster, as his price has been as low as +350 and up to +900 last week. With Skubal revealing that he’s a human and not a machine recently, Crochet has been able to get right back into the battle.
Crochet is on a roll with one or no earned runs allowed in three consecutive starts. He has brought his ERA down to 2.06 from 2.35 in four starts since June 7. Additionally, Crochet boasts a 1.02 WHIP and 135 strikeouts. He’s coming off a 10-strikeout and lockdown performance versus the Angels.
The former White Sox pitcher allowed three hits and no runs across seven innings of work! That effort helped catapult Crochet back into the picture behind Skubal. Since April 29, Crochet has yielded two or fewer earned runs in 10 of his last 11 games.
Garrett Crochet has allowed 2 runs or fewer in 14 starts, tying Paul Skenes for the most in MLB! pic.twitter.com/Hz3J0USKDm
— MLB (@MLB) June 25, 2025
It’s hard to discount Crochet in the Cy Young race against Skubal. It’s probably closer than the odds suggest right now. However, Skubal and Crochet both have company, so let’s continue reviewing the top favorites in the American League!
Hunter Brown (+450)
One pitcher not getting nearly enough Cy Young hype is Astros’ starter Hunter Brown. He will likely come short of the ultimate goal, but his contributions to the Astros can’t be overlooked this season.
The Astros have exceeded their pre-season expectations, and Brown has played a monumental role. Brown carries a 1.74 ERA and 0.89 WHIP across 98 innings this season. He’s keeping pace with Crochet and Skubal on the mound. With 118 strikeouts on the year, he is behind Crochet, but has pitched in one fewer game.
Brown’s 3.4 WAR puts him in a tie with Skubal and 0.4 behind Crochet. He’s followed a similar trajectory as Crochet on the mound recently, with one bad start and pretty flawless otherwise.

— FOX Sports: MLB (@MLBONFOX) June 26, 2025
Brown allowed five earned runs on May 21 and hasn’t given up more than two in six starts since then. The Detroit native’s resume includes one or no runs in five of six contests since May 27!
As Brown continues to fly under the radar, he makes a strong choice as one of the best 2025 Cy Young betting picks.

National League Cy Young Betting Pick
If Skenes pitched a full season in 2024, he likely would have won the Cy Young in his first year on the mound! He would have at least gone right down to the wire with Sale and Wheeler for the most votes.
Now, in 2025, Skenes is in the driver’s seat, and I don’t think he’s going to slow down. He has been phenomenal on the mound and truly the only reason people watch Pirates baseball games. He just has too many weapons in his toolbox to give up this lead for the NL Cy Young.
The primary concern with Skenes’ Cy Young bid is that he plays on a horrible squad. Pittsburgh doesn’t win many games, and they’ll finish with a losing mark. However, Skenes has been so flawless that he’ll overcome the weak team results to win the Cy Young.
I wouldn’t go crazy betting on Skenes at -250 odds, but this is much better than the -340 we were getting earlier this month! It’s a price worth betting on Skenes to win the NL Cy Young in 2025.
American League Cy Young Betting Pick
Skubal has cemented his status as the one to beat for the Cy Young again this season. The Tigers’ ace is in a fantastic position to collect back-to-back awards. However, I think at +450 odds, the value is with Hunter Brown. In mid-June, I bet on Brown at +800, but I still see this price worth a look.
While everyone focuses on the other top contenders, Brown is holding strong with the pack in the American League. It’s been tough playing on a team that doesn’t offer the best run support, but Brown has managed to record an 8-3 record anyway.
If Skubal regresses or suffers a major injury, Brown is going to be right there with Fried and Crochet. As he continues to gain confidence with each passing game, I don’t foresee him dropping out of the race anytime soon. So, at +450, Brown is worth a look for your 2025 AL Cy Young picks!
