UConn Huskies (+255)
Entering the Final Four, the Huskies had the longest odds on the board at +550. Even after knocking off the talented Duke Blue Devils, bettors still had the least confidence in UConn to win the national championship. That upset came in dramatic fashion, as Duke botched the final 10 seconds in the Sweet 16.
The Huskies then closed as a two-point underdog against the Fighting Illini, yet they looked every bit like the favorites. They took a 37-29 lead into halftime and never truly let go of control, cruising to a 71-62 victory. Center Tarris Reed Jr. delivered another standout performance, scoring 17 points on the heels of his 26-point showing against Duke.
Reed Jr. has to be the focal point for the Huskies in this matchup, on both ends of the floor. He must continue his recent surge against his former team, and defensively he’ll be tasked with slowing down Yaxel Lendeborg.
If Reed can’t contain Lendeborg, this game could quickly tilt in Michigan’s favor. Still, there’s plenty of reason to believe he rises to the occasion again.

UConn’s defense has been locked in all season. Through the NCAA Tournament, the Huskies rank sixth in the NCAA, allowing just 65.1 points per game. They sit 15th in overall defensive efficiency and have consistently shown they can smother high-powered offenses. Holding Illinois, a team that averaged 82.3 points per game, to just 62 in the Final Four was especially impressive.
They also kept Duke from ever catching fire in the Elite Eight. With Lendeborg entering tonight’s matchup banged up, UConn’s defense is well-positioned to pressure Michigan and disrupt its offensive rhythm.
Offensively, UConn’s 76.9 points per game doesn’t quite match Michigan’s production on paper. However, the Huskies are getting timely contributions from Reed and the entire backcourt. Solo Ball, Braylon Mullins, and Silas Demary Jr. have all stepped up in big moments. Dan Hurley’s ability to maximize his roster when it matters most has become the hallmark of his tenure.
In the end, Hurley’s coaching edge and big-game experience might be the most important differentiator in this matchup. It wouldn’t be the first time he’s led the Huskies to a national title as anything but the favorite. Given his track record and the way this team is trending, you have to respect UConn regardless of the talent on the other side.
Michigan Wolverines (-310)
Despite fielding some great teams over the years, Michigan still has just one national title, back in 1989. Now, in only his second season as head coach in Ann Arbor, Dusty May has the Wolverines installed as seven-point favorites in the national championship game. The former FAU bench boss has quickly turned Juwan Howard’s mess into gold.
Michigan’s offense has been electric, averaging 87.8 points per game, fourth in the nation. The Wolverines have been even more explosive in the tournament, putting up 94.4 points per game over five contests heading into the title matchup. They’ve scored at least 90 points in all five games, including a 91-73 victory over a loaded Arizona team that entered the tournament as a championship favorite.
Arizona never found an answer for Michigan’s juggernaut attack. Center Aday Mara delivered a monster performance with 26 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks in the win. And on a night when Lendeborg wasn’t at his best, another Wolverine was ready to step up, underscoring the depth and resilience of this Michigan squad.

After being upset by Purdue in the Big Ten Tournament, Michigan has looked untouchable. However, Lendeborg’s injury might be a problem for the final.
May announced that Lendeborg will play. However, his effectiveness at less than 100% is under the microscope. Giving Reed any type of edge against a banged up Lendeborg could be key in this one.
Michigan has a solid defense, but they trail behind Hurley’s group. The Wolverines rank 59th defensively, yielding an average of 69.7 points per game this season. If the injury is hurting Lendeborg, I could see him failing to have the same impact on the defensive side.
Similar to the matchup against Duke, Michigan’s inconsistent defense is the Huskies’ window to be competitive on Monday night.
2026 Men’s College Basketball National Championship Predictions and Betting Pick
As dominant as Michigan has been during the NCAA Tournament, it’s difficult to pass on Hurley getting seven points. Doubting him and his Huskies during this time of the year has proven to be a losing strategy. He should have UConn prepared to handle a tough assignment like the Wolverines.
