Since grabbing the top spot on the Stanley Cup odds board early in the season, the Colorado Avalanche have remained the betting favorites. To cash those tickets, though, they’ll first have to handle their business in the Western Conference Final.
Colorado finished 55-16-11 and topped the NHL with 121 points in the regular season, then carried that form into the playoffs, where they’re 8-1 so far. The Avalanche swept the LA Kings with little resistance and then took out a strong Minnesota Wild squad in five games. Their Game 5 win over the Wild, erasing a 3-0 deficit before winning in overtime, was a perfect snapshot of this team’s resilience.
Playing Colorado can be incredibly frustrating. The Avalanche might have the biggest clutch DNA left in the playoffs. Opponents can never ease off the gas, or Colorado will seize control in a hurry. The Wild learned that the hard way when they let a three-goal lead slip away in Game 5.

Up front, the Avalanche are deep, rolling four lines that can generate sustained pressure in the offensive zone. Parker Kelly and Jack Drury have come up big on the fourth line, highlighting just how strong this forward group is. Bringing back Nazem Kadri via trade was another sharp move, even for a team that was already in a strong position.
The numbers back it up as well. Colorado led the NHL in the regular season with 3.63 goals per game. Nathan MacKinnon finished third in league scoring with 127 points and currently sits tied for fifth in playoff scoring, pacing the Avs with 13 points. With Cale Makar, arguably the best two-way defenseman in the game, patrolling the blue line, Colorado is never short on offense.
The Avalanche head into the conference finals leading the postseason with 4.11 goals per game. They’re not just flash, either. Colorado also ranked first in the regular season in goals against, allowing only 2.40 per game. In net, the tandem of Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood gives the Avs two dependable options in the crease.
Given all of this, it’s no surprise I’m high on Colorado. On paper, the Avalanche shape up as one of the best 2026 NHL Western Conference Final betting picks, but is there enough value on their odds?
Vegas Golden Knights – Colorado’s Kryponite?

The Vegas Golden Knights are four wins away from reaching their third Stanley Cup Final since joining the NHL in 2017-18. After advancing to the Final in 2023, they defeated the Washington Capitals to claim their first Stanley Cup.
This postseason, Vegas dispatched the Utah Mammoth and Anaheim Ducks in six games apiece, making fairly easy work of their Pacific Division rivals. The question is how impressive those wins really are, given that the Pacific was the weakest division in hockey by a wide margin.
The Golden Knights topped the Pacific with 95 points, a total that would have placed them sixth in the Atlantic and fourth in the Central. During the regular season, they failed to crack the top 10 in either offense or defense, finishing 14th in goals per game (3.22) and 12th in goals against (2.95).
Those numbers don’t immediately suggest a championship-caliber team, but Vegas’s depth is a clear strength. That depth has translated into playoff production: they rank third in goals per game (3.67) and sixth in goals against (2.58) this postseason.
Mitch Marner leads the Stanley Cup Playoffs with 18 points. He’s been a tremendous addition to the Golden Knights and has shown improvement since head coach John Tortorella took over in late March.

In his first year with the Golden Knights, Carter Hart has been solid between the pipes. Hart figures to be the key to the series against Colorado. For Vegas to advance, he’ll likely need to steal a couple of games.
His 2.37 goals-against average and .917 save percentage versus the Mammoth and Ducks are strong, but the Avalanche present a much more dangerous offensive challenge.
NHL Western Conference Final 2026 Predictions and Betting Pick
The Avalanche can expect a tough series against the Vegas Golden Knights. Like Colorado, Vegas has enjoyed recent success in the conference finals, so this matchup should be more demanding than the last two against the Kings and Wild. With their strong depth, the Golden Knights are built to turn this into a long, physical series.
That said, Vegas is unlikely to have an answer for Colorado’s top line. Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas are the X-factors here. The Golden Knights have depth, but they don’t have a high-end playmaker on MacKinnon’s level to separate themselves in tight games. The same dynamic shows up on the blue line, where Cale Makar stands out as the best defenseman in this Western Conference Final.
The Avalanche went 2-0-1 against Vegas this season, scoring 12 goals, an average of four per game. Colorado’s offense should be able to put consistent pressure on Golden Knights’ goaltender Carter Hart and make life difficult for him throughout the series. Overall, it should be competitive, but the Avalanche to win remains my top NHL Western Conference Final pick.
