That’s to be expected, as games of magnitude rarely deliver goals galore. Still, you never know what might happen, especially if someone scores an early goal.

Spain: Can They Isolate Messi with Ball Control?
Spain have by far the best defense and midfield in the world right now, and their performances in the World Cup prove it. They just beat what many, including myself, believed to be the best team in the tournament rather comfortably.
France’s lethal attack failed to deliver any meaningful chances after the European champions suffocated them essentially from start to finish. On the other end, they exploited a few defensive mistakes to create enough chances for a 2-0 victory.
The thing with Spain is that it’s very hard to create big chances against them. They keep the ball well, press relentlessly, and simply don’t let you pin them down.
The team looks tailor-made to stop Argentina, as they can force Lionel Messi to play with the ball too far from the box. England managed that for around 60 minutes and it clearly worked, so if can Spain do it for the entire game, they will win. I suspect they could, but you never know with a player of this caliber.
Still, if Messi’s limited for most of the game, that could be enough for Spain to win. The big question for me is how much they can create on the other end. I still have some doubts, despite the victory against France.
Lucas Digne essentially gifted Spain the lead early on after a stupid mistake, and this is arguably the worst team in the world to play against from behind. Unlike England, the European Champions won’t stand back and invite pressure.
Instead, they will keep the ball and frustrate you, forcing errors they can exploit. The big question is how effective this approach is when you don’t have the lead.
Spain needed late Mikel Merino goals against both Belgium and Portugal, clearly showing they are not that deadly up front. Still, they have the strength in depth required to test Argentina in different ways, so I expect them to score at least once in the final. If that’s the opening goal, it could very well be enough.
Argentina: Can't Afford to Fall Behind in This One
Leo Messi has once again been the main man for Argentina in this tournament. He has scored multiple vital goals and provided two assists in the semifinals against England. If you give this man the ball around the box, he will deliver.
The big problem is that Spain is not the kind of team that will defend deep and allow Argentina to just push them relentlessly. In fact, I’m completely shocked that England did, as Thomas Tuchel delivered arguably the worst game management performance I’ve seen at this level.
He essentially allowed Argentina to play in England’s half for 30 minutes, which is the worst possible strategy against this team.
The reigning world champions can’t expect the same from Spain, so they need to find other ways to enable Messi. We saw them try long balls at times against Switzerland, and I won’t be shocked if they do something similar in the final.
Spain simply won’t let them get the ball to Messi comfortably and leave him or other Argentinian players alone in the box like England did.
That’s why the world champions can’t afford to fall behind in this one, like they did against England and Egypt in the knockouts. At the same time, they are yet to keep a clean sheet in the eliminations, so hoping to keep Spain at bay is optimistic.
Honestly, I find it hard to back Argentina in this one, as they need to overperform significantly to win the match. You can never write Messi off, and the team has other great players, but still, Spain is the better team overall.
Spain vs. Argentina Predictions and Best Bets
I admire Argentina’s resilience to get to this point, but Spain are the more complete team. They are more likely to go ahead in the game, they won’t back down and protect their lead if that happens, and they are better prepared to strike back in case Argentina scores first.
I simply see more scenarios in which Spain can win this one, so I’m backing them to lift the World Cup within regulation.
