Best WNBA Predictions Today (With Reasoning), August 25
There are important things to know before betting on the WNBA. Fortunately, if you can’t do your own research, you can see exactly how we arrived at each of our WNBA picks today and the key factors that influenced our analysis.
Chicago Sky vs. Connecticut Sun: Sun +6 (-105)
The Sky (15-23) come into this one as 6-point road favorites, but their track record in that role is a red flag. Chicago is just 1-4 ATS as a road favorite this season, meaning they’ve only covered the spread once in five chances when laying points away from home. ATS stands for “against the spread,” which simply means whether a team has covered the point spread in a given game at WNBA betting sites. A 1-4 mark in that spot is a number you can’t ignore.

The Sun (9-27), on the other hand, have been a nightmare for bettors who fade them at home as underdogs. Connecticut owns a 10-4 ATS record as a home underdog. That’s an elite mark that tells you this team consistently keeps games close or outright wins when the public writes them off. Six of their nine total wins this season have come at home, which reinforces that this is where the Sun play their best basketball.
Chicago also brings inconsistent defense into this road spot, which makes it even harder to trust them as a 6-point favorite. The Sun don’t need to win outright, they just need to keep it within a possession or two, and the numbers say they do exactly that in situations like this one.
Washington Mystics vs. Phoenix Mercury: Mystics -1.5 (-110)
Washington (22-15) heads to Phoenix as a small road favorite, and the case for backing them is straightforward. The Mystics have won three of their last four games and carry the second-best defense in the league into this matchup. That kind of defensive identity travels well, and a one-and-a-half-point spread is a low price to pay for a team playing this well.

The Mercury (13-24), on the other hand, are in a tough spot. They’ve covered the spread just twice in seven home games as an underdog this season. A 2-5 ATS record that tells you this team struggles to compete when they’re already behind the eight-ball. Losing DeWanna Bonner to a contract buyout only makes things worse, stripping the roster of a key veteran presence.
The biggest factor here is motivation. Phoenix has already been eliminated from playoff contention, which means there’s nothing left to play for. Teams in that position rarely dig deep against healthy, focused opponents. Washington is healthy and has every reason to keep winning. That gap in urgency is real, and it shows up on the scoreboard.
