Philadelphia Phillies vs. Atlanta Braves Odds, Prediction, and Pick

    • Philadelphia Phillies (+105)
    • Atlanta Braves (-125)

The Atlanta Braves are one of my best MLB Wild Card Series picks, and there are several solid reasons to back them with home-field advantage. Atlanta enters the postseason with a 94-67 record, compared with Philadelphia at 88-74, which is a good indicator of where teams stand.

More importantly, Atlanta finished with a +118 run differential, while Philadelphia was only +22. That gap suggests the Braves were considerably more dominant on a game-to-game basis.

Home-field performance is another major factor. Atlanta went 52-29 at Truist Park, while Philadelphia was 45-36 on the road. The Braves also scored 739 runs during the regular season and allowed only 621, compared with Philadelphia’s 706 runs scored and 684 allowed. In short, Atlanta had both the stronger offense and pitching staff overall in 2026.

The head-to-head numbers are arguably the biggest reason to trust Atlanta. The Braves went 9-4 against Philadelphia this season, including a 5-2 record at home. Atlanta also outscored the Phillies 58-46 across those 13 meetings.

Atlanta’s lineup has also produced against Philadelphia pitching. The Braves posted a .233 batting average and .307 OBP overall, while several key hitters have been productive throughout the season.

Drake Baldwin, for example, finished with a .284/.358/.459 slash line and 25 home runs, giving Atlanta another dangerous middle-of-the-order bat.

The pitching matchup provides another reason to lean Atlanta. Chris Sale gives the Braves a legitimate ace at the front of the rotation, finishing the season among the league’s elite with a 2.08 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 143 strikeouts through his first 117 innings.

Philadelphia certainly has enough star power to make this competitive, particularly with Bryce Harper and its veteran-heavy lineup. However, the Phillies enter the series having gone just 4-6 over their last 10 games and not all that confident entering the postseason.

With the superior regular-season record, +118 run differential, 52-29 home record, 9-4 head-to-head advantage, and Sale leading the pitching staff, the Braves to win is my top MLB Wild Card Series pick.

Chicago White Sox vs. Houston Astros Odds, Prediction, and Pick

      • Chicago White Sox (+125)
      • Houston Astros (-145)

The Houston Astros (-145) are my pick to win, even though the Chicago White Sox finished the regular season with the better overall record. Chicago went 84-78, compared with Houston at 81-81, but the Astros have several matchup advantages that make them worth backing at home.

The White Sox were only 36-45 on the road, while Houston gets to host every game of this best-of-three Wild Card Series as the higher seed.

The season series is another major factor. Houston went 5-2 against Chicago, winning three of four games at home. The Astros outscored the White Sox 31-16 in those four games at Daikin Park, including consecutive victories of 2-0 and 6-2 in September. Chicago managed only three hits in the 2-0 loss and seven hits in the 6-2 defeat.

Houston also has more middle-of-the-order power. Yordan Alvarez finished with a tremendous .316/.432/.604 slash line, 42 home runs, 105 RBI, and 104 runs scored to put him well ahead in the AL MVP race.

Alvarez’s 6.8 WAR gives him the best number in the American League among hitters. Isaac Paredes added 25 homers and 94 RBI, while Christian Walker contributed 27 home runs and 84 RBI.

The Astros finished with 225 home runs, the most in the majors, and hit .241 as a team. That gives Houston plenty of power throughout the lineup rather than forcing Alvarez to carry the offense by himself.

Pitching is the one area where Chicago has the statistical edge, but Houston’s staff has already shown it can contain this particular lineup. In the September series, the Astros held Chicago to just four runs over three victories. Hunter Brown was particularly effective, throwing five shutout innings in Houston’s 2-0 win.

Chicago’s +52 run differential compared with Houston’s -51 cannot be ignored, but the White Sox also struggled away from home. Houston has already demonstrated that it matches up well with Chicago, and the Astros get all three potential games in their own ballpark.

In short, I’m taking the Astros to progress from this tie as one of my best MLB Wild Series betting picks.

Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Odds, Prediction, and Pick

    • Boston Red Sox (+140)
    • New York Yankees (-170)

The Boston Red Sox are my biggest upset selection for my MLB Wild Card round picks, and the biggest reason is the uncertainty surrounding Aaron Judge heading into this matchup. Judge has been dealing with a calf injury, and his availability is a major storyline for the Yankees.

Even if he is able to play, any limitation could be significant against a Boston team that has enough pitching to make New York work for every run. Judge’s presence changes the complexion of the Yankees’ lineup, making his health one of the most important factors to monitor before the first pitch.

New York finished the regular season with a 93-68 record, six games better than Boston’s 87-74 mark, but the season series was much closer than the records suggest. The Yankees went just 7-6 against the Red Sox, meaning Boston won nearly half of their meetings despite the sizable difference in the standings.

It’s also important to note that Boston brings strong road form into this matchup. The Red Sox went 44-37 away from home, showing they were capable of winning in hostile environments throughout the regular season. That is important when backing an underdog against the Yankees in New York.

The Red Sox also have strong offensive weapons that often don’t get enough credit. Willson Contreras hit .276 with 27 home runs, 81 RBI, and a .905 OPS, while Wilyer Abreu added 24 homers and 74 RBIs.

However, the pitching matchup gives Boston the best path to an upset. Sonny Gray went 18-5 with a 2.72 ERA, while rookie Payton Tolle posted a 3.03 ERA. Boston finished with a 3.52 team ERA, which ranked third in MLB, along with a 1.22 WHIP and .240 opponent batting average. The Red Sox also allowed just 151 home runs, the fewest in the majors.

At +140, Boston only needs to win this game roughly 42% of the time to justify the price. With Judge’s health creating uncertainty and the Red Sox’s ability to win on the road, I’ll side with the value bet on the Red Sox as underdogs.

Chicago Cubs vs. San Diego Padres Odds, Prediction, and Pick

    • Chicago Cubs (EVEN)
    • San Diego Padres (-120)

The San Diego Padres finished 90-71, compared with Chicago at 88-73, but the Padres were particularly strong at Petco Park, going 50-30 at home. Chicago, meanwhile, finished 42-38 on the road.

All three games of the Wild Card Series will be played in San Diego, giving the Padres the benefit of home field throughout the series.

The biggest statistical difference is run prevention versus overall offensive production. The Cubs scored an impressive 844 runs, second in the National League, and finished with a huge +143 run differential.

San Diego scored 713 runs with a +36 differential, so Chicago clearly has the more explosive offense on paper. However, the Padres have been playing their best baseball at exactly the right time, going 8-2 over their final 10 games while Chicago went 4-6.

Fernando Tatis Jr. has been one of the Padres’ hottest hitters down the stretch, reaching base in 14 consecutive games during a recent stretch. Jackson Merrill was batting .455/.478/.864 over his previous 10 games in mid-September, providing another dangerous bat alongside Tatis.

The Padres’ home record is particularly important because Petco Park has been a major advantage. San Diego went 50-30 at home, compared with 40-41 away, making this a dramatically different team in its own ballpark.

Chicago’s offense is certainly capable of winning this matchup. The Cubs produced 844 runs, while Seiya Suzuki, Michael Busch, and Nico Hoerner all finished the regular season as important contributors.

Chicago also owns the better run differential, so this isn’t a matchup where San Diego has an overwhelming statistical advantage. That being said, the Padres’ bats should prevail at the perfect time, affording them a spot on my MLB Wild Card 2026 best bets.
