The Week 5 schedule kicks off with a Thursday Night Football matchup between the 49ers (3-1) and the Rams (3-1) in LA. The victor will get a vital division win in a hotly contested NFC West.
Sunday’s action once again has an early start time with the Vikings taking on the Browns in London. In prime time, the Patriots will attempt to end the Bills’ undefeated season in Buffalo on Sunday Night Football. Then, the Chiefs (2-2) will look for a third straight win when they face the Jaguars (3-1) in Jacksonville.
Four teams, Atlanta, Green Bay, Chicago, and Pittsburgh, are on a bye this week.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Rams Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
San Francisco 49ers | +5.5 (-105) | +210 | Over 47 (-105) |
Los Angeles Rams | -5.5 (-115) | -250 | Under 47 (-115) |
For the second time in a row, it will be an NFC West battle between one-loss teams on Thursday Night Football. The 49ers are getting 5.5 points on the road in LA against the Rams this week.
San Fran lost its first game of the season last week, falling 26-21 to the Jaguars. To make matters worse, Brock Purdy aggravated a turf toe injury that caused him to miss two games already this season. Purdy is now questionable for this TNF matchup.
LA, conversely, bounced back from its loss to the Eagles with a 27-20 win over the previously undefeated Colts. The Rams are at home and face a team ravaged by injuries. LA should win and cover the 5.5 points, especially if Mac Jones, who is battling a knee sprain, is forced into the starting lineup once again.
49ers vs. Rams NFL Week 5 Best Bets:
- Points Spread: Los Angeles Rams -5.5 (-115)
- Moneyline Bet: Los Angeles Rams (-250)
- Over/Under Bet: Under 47 (-115)
Minnesota Vikings vs. Cleveland Browns Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Minnesota Vikings | -3.5 (-105) | -180 | Over 36 (-115) |
Cleveland Browns | +3.5 (-115) | +155 | Under 36 (-105) |
Minnesota lost outright as a field goal favorite last week, falling 24-21 to the Steelers in Ireland. The Vikings (2-2) have another opportunity to secure an international road win as they travel to London to face the Browns (1-3).
Cleveland is the designated home team, but they are 3.5-point underdogs this weekend. The Browns’ defense has played well at home, allowing just 13.5 PPG. However, since this game is in London and not Cleveland, the Browns will not have their normal home-field advantage.
Minnesota is a worthy -180 favorite, especially if Carson Wentz is under center. The offense has looked better with him in the lineup, and second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy would struggle against a fierce Browns’ defense.
McCarthy is expected to practice this week and could play. With their QB situation in flux, I recommend waiting to see the who’s starting before betting on the Vikings’ point spread.
Vikings vs. Browns NFL Week 5 Best Bets:
- Points Spread: Cleveland Browns +3.5 (-115)
- Moneyline Bet: Minnesota Vikings (-180)
- Over/Under Bet: Over 36 (-115)
Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Houston Texans | -2.5 (-110) | -135 | Over 39.5 (-115) |
Baltimore Ravens | +2.5 (-110) | +115 | Under 39.5 (-105) |
Houston secured its first win of the year with a 26-0 demolition job over fellow winless team and AFC rival, Tennessee. Baltimore, on the other hand, fell to 1-3 after a 37-20 loss to the Chiefs.
The Ravens’ loss in Kansas City did more than just put their hopes of winning the AFC North in jeopardy. Multiple Baltimore starters were hurt, including quarterback Lamar Jackson, depleting an already injury-riddled team even more.
Jackson is questionable for this game with a hamstring injury. If the two-time NFL MVP cannot play, the Ravens will struggle to beat the Texans.
Houston is far from a perfect team, as evidenced by their 1-3 start. However, the Texans’ offense was better last week and has another easy matchup this week. Baltimore has allowed 133 points this year, the most in the league.
The Texans, on the other hand, have allowed the fewest points, surrendering just 51 through four games. Even if Jackson can play, his hamstring injury will limit him against a stout Texans defense. Houston should win this game on the road, covering the 2.5-point spread.
Texans vs. Ravens NFL Week 5 Best Bets:
- Points Spread: Houston Texans -2.5 (-110)
- Moneyline Bet: Houston Texans (-135)
- Over/Under Bet: Under 39.5 (-115)
Miami Dolphins vs. Carolina Panthers Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Miami Dolphins | +1 (-110) | +100 | Over 44.5 (-115) |
Carolina Panthers | -1 (-110) | -120 | Under 44.5 (-105) |
Miami’s first win of the season, a 27-21 victory over the Jets, came at a cost. Tyreek Hill dislocated his knee and is out for the foreseeable future.
The good news for Dolphins fans is that Miami should be able to beat the Panthers even without Hill. Miami is a 1-point road underdog, but they are listed at even money in the latest moneyline odds for this cross-conference matchup.
Carolina shut out the Falcons in Week 3, but they followed up that performance with a 42-13 blowout loss to the Patriots.
The Panthers are allowing 31.67 PPG against teams not named the Falcons. Miami has a whole week to prepare for the loss of Hill and will be able to exploit the holes in the porous Carolina defense. Miami should secure its second win this week.
Dolphins vs. Panthers NFL Week 5 Best Bets:
- Points Spread: Miami Dolphins +1 (-110)
- Moneyline Bet: Miami Dolphins (+100)
- Over/Under Bet: Over 44.5 (-115)
Las Vegas Raiders vs. Indianapolis Colts Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Las Vegas Raiders | +6.5 (-105) | +255 | Over 48 (-110) |
Indianapolis Colts | -6.5 (-115) | -310 | Under 48 (-110) |
Indianapolis suffered its first defeat of the Daniel Jones era, losing 27-20 against the Rams in LA. The Colts (3-1) return to Indy this week to face the Raiders (1-3). Jones and the Colts are laying 6.5 points as home favorites.
The Raiders finally figured out that handing Ashton Jeanty the ball is the best way to incorporate the sixth overall pick into their offense. Jeanty gained 138 yards on 21 rush attempts. He also caught two passes and scored three total touchdowns, but Las Vegas lost on a blocked field goal.
Indy also has a great running game, led by Jonathan Taylor. The talented sixth-year RB has a league-high 414 rushing yards so far this season.
Geno Smith has not been the revelation at quarterback that Raiders fans had hoped for. He has seven interceptions, the most in the NFL, and the Colts’ defense has four INTs so far this year. Their stout defense should power Indiana Jones and the Colts to a win this week.
Raiders vs. Colts NFL Week 5 Best Bets:
- Points Spread: Indianapolis Colts -6.5 (-115)
- Moneyline Bet: Indianapolis Colts (-310)
- Over/Under Bet: Over 48 (-110)
New York Giants vs. New Orleans Saints Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
New York Giants | +1 (-105) | -105 | Over 40.5 (-115) |
New Orleans Saints | -1 (-115) | -115 | Under 40.5 (-105) |
Giants’ fans had this Week 5 matchup with the Saints circled as an ideal time to start rookie Jaxson Dart. New York’s coaching staff pulled the plug on the Russell Wilson experiment a week early, and Dart led the team to an improbable upset win over the previously upbeat Chargers.
Despite the impressive win, Dart and the Giants are 1-point underdogs this week in New Orleans. The G-Men are only -105 moneyline underdogs against the 0-4 Saints.
New Orleans hung with the Bills longer than expected last week and stayed within the 17-point spread in its 31-19 loss. Despite their slight improvements week-to-week, the Saints do not deserve to be favored over anyone.
The Giants will win this game in New Orleans, but it will not be easy. Malik Nabers tore his ACL last week and is out for the year. On the bright side, rookie Cam Skattebo has emerged as a great weapon in Brian Daboll’s offense and can carry the Giants to victory this week.
Giants vs. Saints NFL Week 5 Best Bets:
- Points Spread: New York Giants +1 (-105)
- Moneyline Bet: New York Giants (-105)
- Over/Under Bet: Under 40.5 (-105)
Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Jets Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Dallas Cowboys | -3 (+100) | -150 | Over 47 (-110) |
New York Jets | +3 (-120) | +130 | Under 47 (-110) |
Dallas (1-2-1) is a 3-point favorite this week to get its first road win of the season. The Cowboys face the Jets (0-4) at MetLife.
Dak Prescott and the Cowboys are averaging 40 PPG at home this season. However, Dallas has only scored 17 PPG in their two road games this season. They will also be without CeeDee Lamb again this week, as the star wide receiver nurses an ankle injury.
The Jets have their fair share of struggles as well, but they have been competitive in three of their four losses this season.
New York’s offense should be able to move the ball against a Cowboys’ defense that has allowed 31+ points in three straight games. Dallas’s struggles on the road should continue this week as I can see them falling to the Jets.
Cowboys vs. Jets NFL Week 5 Best Bets:
- Points Spread: New York Jets +3 (-120)
- Moneyline Bet: New York Jets (+130)
- Over/Under Bet: Over 47 (-110)
Denver Broncos vs. Philadelphia Eagles Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Denver Broncos | +4 (-110) | +175 | Over 43.5 (-105) |
Philadelphia Eagles | -4 (-110) | -210 | Under 43.5 (-115) |
Denver improved to 2-2 with a 28-3 win over the Bengals on MNF. The Broncos will need all the momentum they can get heading into their matchup with the 4-0 Eagles this week in Philadelphia.
Philly have struggled in essentially every game this season, but the Eagles have consistently found a way to win. They held off a Buccaneers’ comeback last week despite not completing a pass in the second half.
The Broncos’ defense could present problems for a struggling Eagles’ passing attack. However, Saquon Barkley could have his best game of the year against a Broncos run defense that is allowing nearly 100 rush YPG.
Bo Nix has also struggled to regain the magic from his rookie year. If those issues persist, the Broncos will be unable to pull off the upset this week.
Broncos vs. Eagles NFL Week 5 Best Bets:
- Points Spread: Philadelphia Eagles -4 (-110)
- Moneyline Bet: Philadelphia Eagles (-210)
- Over/Under Bet: Under 43.5 (-115)
Tennessee Titans vs. Arizona Cardinals Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Tennessee Titans | +9 (-110) | +375 | Over 41.5 (-105) |
Arizona Cardinals | -9 (-110) | -525 | Under 41.5 (-115) |
Tennessee (0-4) continues its quest for the first win of the Cam Ward era this week on the road against the Cardinals. Arizona (2-2) have lost back-to-back games, but the Cards are a 9-point favorite at home in Week 5.
The Cardinals lost James Conner for the year after he suffered a season-ending foot injury in Week 3. Arizona only had a few days to prepare for life without Conner, and their rushing attack suffered for it in Week 4.
Trey Benson managed just 35 yards on eight carries, and Kyler Murray led the team with 41 rushing yards in the 23-20 loss.
The good news is Benson has had extra time to prepare for his second game as the de facto starter. Tennessee is also allowing 141.5 rushing YPG, the fifth-most in the NFL. With that in mind, Arizona should be able to lean on its rushing attack and get the home win over the Titans.
Titans vs. Cardinals NFL Week 5 Best Bets:
- Points Spread: Arizona Cardinals -9 (-110)
- Moneyline Bet: Arizona Cardinals (-525)
- Over/Under Bet: Over 41.5 (-105)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Seattle Seahawks Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Tampa Bay Buccaneers | +3.5 (-115) | -105 | Over 44.5 (-110) |
Seattle Seahawks | -3.5 (-105) | +140 | Under 44.5 (-110) |
Tampa Bay’s undefeated season ended last week with its 31-25 loss at home to the Eagles. The Buccaneers face another tough test this week, traveling over 3,000 miles to face the Seahawks in Seattle.
The Seahawks had extra rest after beating Arizona on TNF and are.5-point home favorites in this battle of 3-1 teams. The home side will be well-rested and the healthier team in this game, as Tampa Bay is riddled with injuries, including:
- Mike Evans – Out with a hamstring injury
- Bucky Irving – Questionable with an ankle injury
- Calijah Kancey (IR) – Out with a pectoral injury
- Luke Goedeke (IR) – Out with a foot injury
- Cody Mauch (IR) – Out with a knee injury
Travel and injuries put the Bucs at a severe disadvantage for this matchup, so I expect Seattle to pick up another win here.
Buccaneers vs. Seahawks NFL Week 5 Best Bets:
- Points Spread: Seattle Seahawks -3.5 (-105)
- Moneyline Bet: Seattle Seahawks (-165)
- Over/Under Bet: Over 44.5 (-110)
Detroit Lions vs. Cincinnati Bengals Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Detroit Lions | -10.5 (-110) | -500 | Over 48.5 (-110) |
Cincinnati Bengals | +10.5 (-110) | +360 | Under 48.5 (-110) |
The Lions’ disappointing 27-13 loss in Week 1 seems like a lifetime ago. Detroit has reeled off three straight Ws since then, scoring 34+ points in every game.
Their slow start makes the Lions’ 137 total points this season, the most in the NFL, even more impressive. Detroit has another chance to run up the score this week against the Bengals in Cincinnati. The Lions are 10.5-point road favorites for this matchup.
Detroit is the highest-scoring team in the league, and the Bengals have the sixth-worst scoring defense. Cincy has allowed 29.8 PPG, including 27+ points in three straight games.
This could be a trap game for the Lions. However, Dan Campbell’s aggressive coaching style limits the chances that Detroit will be unprepared. I expect the Lions to win and run up the score against a dysfunctional Bengals squad that has scored 13 combined points the last two weeks without Joe Burrow.
Lions vs. Bengals NFL Week 5 Best Bets:
- Points Spread: Detroit Lions -10.5 (-110)
- Moneyline Bet: Detroit Lions (-500)
- Over/Under Bet: Over 48.5 (-110)
Washington Commanders vs. Los Angeles Chargers Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Washington Commanders | +3 (-120) | +130 | Over 47.5 (-110) |
Los Angeles Chargers | -3 (+100) | -150 | Under 47.5 (-110) |
Washington (2-2) look to bounce back from a 34-27 loss to the Falcons, as they take on the Chargers (3-1) in Los Angeles. The Chargers also lost last week, falling 21-18 to the Giants and Jaxson Dart in the latter’s pro debut.
Both teams lost on the East Coast and must travel across the country for this game at Sofi. LA is a 3-point home favorite on Sunday.
The Commanders’ starting QB position is up in the air. Second-year star and reigning Rookie of the Year, Jayden Daniels, is set to return to practice after missing the last two games with a knee injury. If Daniels cannot play, the Commanders will start Marcus Mariota for a third straight week.
Regardless of who is under center for Washington, the Chargers’ defense should be able to shut down an injury-depleted Commanders’ offense and get the win at home. In addition to Daniels, star receiver Terry McLaurin also missed last week’s game with a quad injury, and RB Austin Ekeler is out for the year with a torn Achilles.
LA have its own health issues, including significant injuries to its two starting tackles. Even down two starting linemen, the Chargers have been one of the most explosive teams in the league, and rookie RB Omarion Hampton has emerged in recent weeks.
The Chargers should win and cover this weekend at home, as the Commanders have been struggling at the start of the season.
Commanders vs. Chargers NFL Week 5 Best Bets:
- Points Spread: Los Angeles Chargers -3 (+100)
- Moneyline Bet: Los Angeles Chargers (-150)
- Over/Under Bet: Under 47.5 (-110)
New England Patriots vs. Buffalo Bills Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
New England Patriots | +7.5 (-110) | +305 | Over 49 (-115) |
Buffalo Bills | -7.5 (-110) | -410 | Under 49 (-105) |
This week’s Sunday Night Football matchup pits the Patriots (2-2) against the Bills (4-0) in an AFC East showdown. Prior to the Week 4 matchup between the Jets and Dolphins, the Patriots and Bills were the only teams in the division to win a game this season.
Buffalo is a 7.5-point home favorite in this game. It is the third consecutive game that the Bills will be laying at least a touchdown.
The Bills have scored 133 points through four games, the second-most in the NFL. They also lead the league with 643 rushing yards, averaging 163.5 rushing YPG. Buffalo has 962 passing yards, too, which ranks sixth in the league.
New England’s offense has not been nearly as consistent. The Patriots have scored 33+ twice, but they have also been held to 14 or fewer points twice.
This is a divisional game, and New England should be able to keep it closer. However, the Patriots’ offensive struggles will keep them from winning this game outright. Buffalo should get the victory, but it will be closer than the lines suggest.
Patriots vs. Bills NFL Week 5 Best Bets:
- Points Spread: New England Patriots +7.5 (-110)
- Moneyline Bet: Buffalo Bills (-410)
- Over/Under Bet: Under 49 (-105)
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Preview: Odds, Betting Lines, Best Bets
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Kansas City Chiefs | -3.5 (-105) | -185 | Over 45.5 (-110) |
Jacksonville Jaguars | +3.5 (-115) | +160 | Under 45.5 (-110) |
The final game of Week 5 pits the Chiefs (2-2) against the Jaguars (3-1) in Jacksonville. Both teams have won back-to-back games, and Kansas City is a 3.5-point road favorite for this Monday Night Football contest.
Jacksonville is coming off an impressive road win over the previously undefeated 49ers in San Francisco. Despite the win, the Jags will struggle against the Chiefs this weekend.
The Chiefs are 9-3 on MNF with Patrick Mahomes under center. Trevor Lawrence has started only twice on MNF and is 0-2.
More importantly, Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense have found their footing in recent weeks. Over the last two games, KC has outscored its opponents 59-29. The Chiefs’ rushing attack still has plenty of room for improvement, but Mahomes has more than made up for it in the passing game.
Jacksonville has allowed the ninth-most passing yards (934) and is tied for the eighth-most passing TDs allowed (7). The Jags have also surrendered 13 passing plays of 20+ yards, which is tied for the seventh-most in the NFL. Simply put, Jacksonville will not be able to stop Mahomes and the Chiefs on MNF this week.
Chiefs vs. Jaguars NFL Week 5 Best Bets:
- Points Spread: Kansas City Chiefs -3.5 (-105)
- Moneyline Bet: Kansas City Chiefs (-185)
- Over/Under Bet: Under 45.5 (-110)
