Safest NFL Survivor Pick: Jaguars to Beat Browns

The Jacksonville Jaguars stand out as one of the safest NFL Survivor picks for Week 1, particularly with the Cleveland Browns coming to town. Jacksonville is coming off a 13-4 season in 2025, while Cleveland finished just 5-12 and ranked 31st in the NFL in scoring at only 16.4 points per game.

The biggest reason to trust Jacksonville is the quarterback advantage. Trevor Lawrence took a major step forward last season, throwing for 4,007 yards and 29 touchdowns while adding nine rushing touchdowns for a franchise-record 38 total TDs. That gives Jacksonville a proven, high-end quarterback entering his second season under Liam Coen, while Cleveland is dealing with significant uncertainty under center.

The Browns have finally named Deshaun Watson their Week 1 starter, but he missed all of 2025 after undergoing two Achilles surgeries and enters the season having not played a regular-season snap since 2024.

He also owns just a 9-10 record as Cleveland’s starter. The Browns spent much of training camp splitting first-team reps between Watson and Shedeur Sanders, making the quarterback situation anything but stable.

That uncertainty is especially concerning against a Jacksonville team that finished 2025-26 with a 13-4 record and an offense capable of putting points on the board after a breakout campaign to win the AFC South.

The Jaguars also have home-field advantage at EverBank Stadium, while Cleveland begins the season on the road with a new head coach in Todd Monken. Jacksonville was tough to beat at home, with a 7-2 record a season ago.

For Survivor purposes, Jacksonville checks nearly every box, including a Browns’ offense that scored just 16.4 points in 2025-26. The Los Angeles Chargers have the largest spread this week at 10 points compared to the Jaguars at 8.5 points, but I am saving the Chargers for another matchup in the future for my 2026 NFL survivor picks.

Moderately Safe NFL Survivor Pick: Raiders to Beat Dolphins

The Las Vegas Raiders are hardly a team you would normally describe as a safe Survivor pick. They went just 3-14 last season and finished dead last in the NFL in scoring at 14.2 points per game, so there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical.

However, Survivor pools are about finding the right matchup, and Week 1 presents an excellent opportunity to use the Raiders against a Miami Dolphins team that looks like one of the league’s biggest disasters entering 2026.

Miami went 7-10 last season and has already looked completely overmatched this preseason, going 0-3 while being outscored 63-22. The Dolphins lost 20-7 to Washington, 26-3 to the Giants and 17-12 to Atlanta. They also lost rookie LB Trey Moore to an ankle injury that requires surgery, adding another blow to an already questionable roster.

Las Vegas also has the benefit of playing at Allegiant Stadium, where the Raiders can lean on home-field advantage. More importantly, the Dolphins simply don’t look capable of exploiting the Raiders’ weaknesses.

There is also plenty of intrigue surrounding Raiders’ QB Fernando Mendoza, the No. 1 overall pick and reigning Heisman Trophy winner. Mendoza threw for 3,535 yards and 41 touchdowns at Indiana last season while posting a remarkable 90.3 QBR. His NFL preseason has been inconsistent, but he showed serious promise in his debut, completing 10-of-16 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown.

The Raiders aren’t a good team, but this is exactly the type of matchup where Survivor players should consider using them because there aren’t going to be many other opportunities.

Miami looks like the worst team in football, possibly on both sides of the ball, and getting Las Vegas at home against this Dolphins roster makes the Raiders a moderately safe Week 1 selection.

High Risk/High Reward NFL Survivor Pick: Panthers to Beat Bears

The Carolina Panthers are a true high-risk, high-reward Survivor option in Week 1. They are 2.5-point home underdogs against a Chicago Bears team that enters the season with plenty of hype after going 11-6 and winning the NFC North in 2025-26.

Chicago also averaged 25.9 points per game, compared with just 18.3 for Carolina, so there is no question the Bears were the better team last season in the NFL.

However, there are reasons to believe Carolina is capable of making this a much closer matchup. The Panthers went 8-9 and won the NFC South as the team made visible improvements. They also finished the season with strong momentum, reaching the playoffs before losing a thrilling 34-31 Wild Card game to the Rams.

Bryce Young also took another step forward, throwing for 3,011 yards and 23 touchdowns, while rookie WR Tetairoa McMillan exploded for 1,014 receiving yards. Look for McMillan to get his sophomore campaign started early with a big performance in Week 1.

Chicago’s numbers were impressive, but the defense allowed 24.4 points per game, ranking 23rd in the NFL. That could give Young and Carolina’s improving offense opportunities to score at home. The Bears still have questions up front and should struggle to generate a pass rush again.

The Bears deserve their hype, but that’s exactly why this is an intriguing survivor contrarian play. Carolina is at home, getting 2.5 points, and enters 2026 with a young core that gained valuable experience last season.

This isn’t a safe pick, but if the Panthers can force Chicago into a few mistakes, they absolutely have the talent to pull off the upset for one of the best NFL survivor picks this week.
