Safest NFL Survivor Pick: Texans to Beat Giants

The Houston Texans are my safest NFL survivor pick for Week 7, as they have an opportunity to build on a dramatic 34-31 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Houston improved to 2-4 after Ka’imi Fairbairn kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired in London.

Now, the Texans face a New York Giants team coming off a disappointing 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints, with uncertainty at quarterback adding to Houston’s appeal.

Texans’ QB C.J. Stroud has thrown for 1,714 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception through six games, completing 143 of 220 passes. He delivered one of his best performances of the season against Jacksonville, completing 24 of 34 attempts for 312 yards and three touchdowns. Houston has scored 144 points over six games, averaging 24 per contest in 2026-27.

The addition of WR Marvin Harrison Jr. could help those offensive numbers improve further. Acquired from Arizona, Harrison made his Texans debut against Jacksonville, catching three passes for 34 yards, with all three receptions moving the chains for first downs. He played just 12 snaps after having limited time to learn the playbook, so there is room for his role to expand.

Harrison also reunites with Stroud, his former Ohio State teammate, giving Houston an opportunity to develop a productive connection as they spend more time together. His downfield ability could open up opportunities for WR Nico Collins and the rest of the receiving corps, making the Texans more difficult to defend.

Meanwhile, the Giants are coming off a costly defeat after surrendering a 10-point lead to New Orleans. QB Jameis Winston threw for 152 yards and one touchdown but also tossed two interceptions before being benched. That brings his season total to 957 passing yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions through five appearances.

Backup QB J.J. McCarthy sparked a late comeback with 243 passing yards and a touchdown, but New York ultimately fell short. With starting QB Jaxson Dart unavailable, the Giants face further uncertainty under center heading into Week 7.

Houston has a strong opportunity to capitalize on those quarterback concerns. The Texans recorded 18 sacks entering Week 6, ranking second in the NFL, and their ability to pressure the quarterback could force more mistakes from New York.

The Giants have scored 136 points through six games, averaging 22.7 per contest, while their 2,002 total offensive yards amount to approximately 334 per game.

Houston still needs to become more consistent, but Stroud’s strong performance against Jacksonville and Harrison’s potential to strengthen the passing attack give the Texans reasons for optimism. Combined with the Giants’ quarterback uncertainty, those factors make Houston an appealing survivor selection.

Moderately Safe NFL Survivor Pick: Lions to Beat Packers

The Detroit Lions are my moderately safe NFL survivor pick for Week 7, as they look well-positioned to take advantage of the Green Bay Packers’ defensive injuries and establish control on the ground.

Detroit enters this matchup at 3-2 after a dominant 45-21 win over Arizona, while Green Bay is coming off a win over the Dallas Cowboys at Lambeau. The Lions should have a good opportunity to build momentum at Ford Field.

Detroit’s offense has been productive through five games, averaging 32.8 points and 393.8 total yards per game. Lions’ QB Jared Goff has thrown for 1,398 yards and 12 touchdowns without an interception, giving the Lions a reliable passing attack to complement their ground game.

Goff’s efficiency has helped Detroit score at least 31 points in four of their five games, with the offense erupting for 45 points in the most recent outing.

The matchup is particularly appealing for RB Jahmyr Gibbs, who is coming off a spectacular performance against Arizona. Gibbs recorded 151 rushing yards and three touchdowns, demonstrating the explosive playmaking ability that can turn a close game into a comfortable Detroit lead. The Lions have rushed for 571 yards and eight touchdowns through five games, giving them a strong foundation to control possession and keep Green Bay’s offense on the sideline.

Green Bay’s defensive injuries are another reason to favor Detroit. DT Javon Hargrave and LB Edgerrin Cooper are expected to miss extended time, while CB Benjamin St-Juste has also been sidelined. Those absences could leave Green Bay short on defensive depth and vulnerable against a Lions offense capable of attacking both inside and outside.

The Packers’ run defense has also been vulnerable, yielding 114.3 rushing yards per game through six games, for 18th in the NFL. Before the Cowboys, who didn’t run much last week, the Packers were 24th.

If Gibbs gets going early, Detroit can dictate the pace, keep Packers QB Jordan Love off the field, and put the Packers’ depleted defense under even more pressure.

Detroit’s defense has been a weakness, allowing 404.4 total yards per game through five weeks. That could give Love and the Packers opportunities to score, so a Lions victory is not without risk.

However, Detroit’s offensive firepower and Gibbs’ ability to exploit defensive gaps give the Lions a path to pull away, particularly if Green Bay’s defense is further worn down by their matchup against Dallas’ high-powered offense.

High Risk/High Reward NFL Survivor Pick: Cardinals to Beat Broncos

The Arizona Cardinals are an intriguing high-risk, high-reward option for NFL survivor pools in Week 7. Denver is the superior team on paper, but the Broncos could be vulnerable to a letdown after an exhausting 17-14 overtime victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night. This creates an opportunity to take a contrarian approach and back Arizona to pull off an unexpected upset at home.

Denver improved to 4-2 with the win, but their offense struggled badly. The Broncos managed just 168 total yards, with QB Bo Nix throwing for only 107 yards. Denver’s defense did most of the heavy lifting, recording five sacks and forcing three turnovers to secure the victory.

While the result was positive, the offensive performance raises questions about whether the Broncos can consistently put points on the board. Nix’s future in Denver is directly under the microscope right now.

The short turnaround and physical nature of that game could also be factors. Denver played into overtime, and the defense spent extended stretches on the field against Seattle. The Broncos now face a road matchup against an Arizona team that will be eager to respond after a difficult start to the season.

Arizona is coming off a massive victory on the road against the Rams. They won on a last-second field goal to dispatch the Rams by a score of 18-16 at SoFi Stadium. The victory ended a four-game slide for the Cardinals and marked their second win this season. Despite a 2-4 record, the Cardinals have been competitive in games, including a 36-30 loss to the 49ers.

QB Jacoby Brissett isn’t a game breaker, but he’s a solid manager who can take advantage of a sluggish Broncos’ attack. As he showed against a Rams team that couldn’t figure things out offensively, Brissett can come out on top if the Cardinals win the field position battle. On the heels of the momentum from the win against the Rams, expect the Cardinals to show more grit in Week 7.

For survivor pools, this is clearly not the conservative choice. Denver has the better overall record and a defense capable of winning games on its own. However, the combination of a demanding overtime victory, an underwhelming offense, and Arizona’s home-field advantage creates a potential upset spot.

This is a high-risk, high-reward play for survivor entries looking to differentiate themselves rather than a pick for anyone prioritizing safety.
