Chelsea – Can the Blues Make It Back to the Club World Cup Final?

Chelsea had to grit their teeth in a 2-1 win over Palmeiras, as Cole Palmer scored his first goal of the tournament in the 16th minute. The Blues also got an own goal from Agustin Giay in the 83rd minute to go through. But Chelsea were almost left with egg on their faces as Estavao scored in the 53rd minute for Palmeiras, and the 18-year-old is due to join Chelsea after the Club World Cup!

Chelsea has been up and down in this tournament, and it was encapsulated in this game. They were on the front foot in the first half, but after Estavao scored, the Blues were on their heels. But 21-year-old Andrey Santos was outstanding in midfield as Moises Caicedo was suspended, and Roméo Lavia is injured. Pedro Neto continues his terrific tournament for Chelsea, and while he didn’t add to his three goals, Neto was a constant threat down the right.

Chelsea could have put this game away early, but missed a few chances. They’ll need to be more clinical in front of goal to make it back to the Club World Cup final. Chelsea won the tournament in 2021, beating Palmeiras 2-1 in extra time. They also lost to Corinthians 1-0 in the 2012 final.

Fluminense – Will the Brazilian Team Keep Their Run Going?

Fluminense took out Inter Milan in the Round of 16, and then defeated Al-Hilal 2-1 in in the quarterfinals to continue their stunning Club World Cup run. Matheus Martinelli opened the scoring in the 40th minute, then Marcos Leonardo equalized for the Saudi Arabian team in the 51st minute. But Hercules scored the match-winner in the 70th minute, adding to his goal against Inter Milan.

Captain Thiago Silva has been immense for Fluminense as the 40-year-old is putting in vintage performances. Silva will also have a major interest in winning this game as he played for Chelsea for four years between 2020 and 2024. He was Chelsea’s Player of the Year in 2023, and marshals a defense that has allowed just three goals in five games so far. Hercules has scored twice, while five other players have scored once for Fluminense. Jhon Arias creates plenty of chances for Fluminense, and his team has been adept at putting them away.

The Brazilians are definitely the underdogs in these Chelsea vs. Fluminense odds. But they’ve been the underdogs three of their five games, drawing Borussia Dortmund 0-0 in their Group F opener, and then beating Inter Milan and Al-Hilal. Can they keep it rolling?

Chelsea vs. Fluminense Prediction and Pick

The Blues have the pedigree, and are obvious favorites, according to sites for betting soccer. But Fluminense have proven they are no slouches. Their win over Inter Milan was extremely impressive, and while they were saved by a pair of goal posts, Fluminense were great value for their win!

Chelsea has yet to put in a full 90 minutes in this tournament, and they had better here, or they’re in trouble! I think Fluminense will put forth a massive effort, especially for their captain, Silva, who will want to get one over on his former club.

There have been a few upsets at the Club World Cup, and I’m banking on one more. Let’s take Fluminense to win at +450 in our Chelsea vs. Fluminense predictions on Tuesday in New Jersey!
