Best Bets for the Champions League Today, October 1 (With Reasoning)

Here are the detailed versions of my UCL best bets for today, October 1.

Arsenal vs. Olympiacos: Arsenal to Keep a Clean Sheet (-159)

Arsenal have been locked in defensively since the start of the season, conceding just three goals in their past seven matches — and all of those came against elite teams like Liverpool, Man City, and Newcastle. That level of consistency at the back is rare, and the overall confidence in this team after the dramatic win against Newcastle on Sunday is sky-high.

What gives me even more confidence is Arsenal’s depth. Even if Arteta opts to rotate, the likes of Ben White, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and whoever comes into this team can perform at a high level.

On the flip side, Olympiacos lack the firepower to trouble the Gunners. In fact, they couldn’t even score against Pafos in their Champions League opener — and that was when Pafos were down to ten men for most of the game.

Given the gulf in quality, the defensive solidity Arsenal bring, and the clear attacking weakness of their opponent, backing Arsenal to keep a clean sheet at -159 is one of the best Champions League bets today. I would’ve expected something like -200 for this market, so the current odds are too good to ignore.

Union Saint Gilloise vs Newcastle: Union Saint Gilloise (+285)

Union Saint-Gilloise might be flying under the radar for casual soccer fans, but this is a team with teeth. They’ve already seized control of the Belgian league, giving them the flexibility to zero in on Champions League play.

You could easily see that in the 3-1 surprising win over PSV away from home, a result that turned heads across Europe. Union Saint-Gilloise controlled this one from start to finish.

They’re not just riding momentum either. Union have quietly assembled a disciplined and well-drilled squad that can compete with most opponents in the Champions League.

The upcoming game will be a tough assignment for a Newcastle side licking their wounds after a brutal, last-gasp loss to Arsenal over the weekend. Physically and emotionally, the Magpies are drained.

On top of that, Newcastle’s lack of open-play goals, particularly in away matches, sets them up for a long night against this organized Belgian side. At +285, Union Saint-Gilloise is an amazing value bet.

If you want to play it safe, you should be able to find odds of -105 or so for the Belgian side to not lose this game. However, I prefer to target the juicy price for a home win.

Union Saint-Gilloise to Win
