The prices for where LeBron will play next year at one of the best NBA betting sites going, BetOnline! It was announced on Tuesday, June 30, that James will leave the Lakers and become a free agent.
The Golden State Warriors (-1000) are the overwhelming favorites to land James, but a return to his hometown, Cleveland (+200) is also in the mix. The Warriors have a big edge in implied probability at 90.9%, to 33.3% for the Cavaliers. It should be noted that the Warriors were -250 around 2 PM ET, and by 3:45 PM ET, had shot up to -1000!
Another of James’ former teams, Miami (+800) is in the mix. Boston (+1000), San Antonio (+1200), and Denver (+1400) are next. The LeBron next team odds then drop to Minnesota (+1600), Detroit (+1800), and New York (+2000).
There are a couple of interesting longshots, such as Houston (+6000) and Toronto (+8000), but they would need some luck to land “King James”.

Favorites to Land LeBron
This team seems to have the inside track on signing James.
Golden State Warriors (-1000)
The Warriors have been rumored to be a landing spot for James for years now, especially since the 2024 Summer Olympics, when James and Stephen Curry led the United States to a gold medal.
The Warriors are planning to pursue LeBron James this offseason and Steph Curry is planning on meeting with LeBron to recruit him to Golden State, per @BrettSiegelNBA.

James is also good friends with Draymond Green, who declined his $27.6 million option to help the Warriors with payroll flexibility. It is also thought that James would have to take a pay cut to join the Warriors, as he made $52.6 million last season.
If LeBron wants to be with a contender, he’ll have to come down off that salary. The Warriors also want to sign James’ former LA teammate, Anthony Davis.
However, the Warriors’ front office wants to make the final years of Curry’s career memorable, and what would be more memorable than to pair up the biggest stars of this NBA generation, regardless of their age? At -1000, the LeBron next team odds seems to think it’s a sure thing.
The Contenders to Sign James
These teams need Golden State to slip up in the recruitment process.
Cleveland Cavaliers (+200)
Cleveland has the hometown angle at its disposal, and James helped them win their first NBA championship in 2016 (coincidentally, against Golden State). However, the Cavaliers have struggled to be a serious contender in the playoffs, despite having success in the regular season. They were swept by New York in the Eastern Conference finals last season.
REPORT: The Cavaliers have interest in a second reunion with LeBron James, with the appeal of the franchise’s greatest player finishing his career where it all started, per @ChrisBHaynes.

But the Cavaliers have severe cap-space restraints, and they would certainly to move one of their larger contracts. The Cavaliers are also working out an extension for James Harden, which could further hinder their pursuit of James. But if James wanted to come back home for a third stint with the Cavaliers, they would likely do whatever it took to get him.
Miami Heat (+800)
The Heat are also interested in a reunion with James, who won two titles in Miami in 2012 and 2013. But is James interested?
The Miami Heat are a potential landing spot for LeBron James, per @JakeLFischer
“He’s been connected to Miami, a potential homecoming there once Giannis was traded to South Beach. There’s plenty talk around the league that they could see that reunion”

His time in Miami didn’t end well as James clashed with president Pat Riley, who is still with the Heat. Giannis Antetokounmpo is in Miami now, and a James-Giannis-Bam Adebayo trio would be formidable. I believe it’s more feasible that James would end up in Miami over Cleveland, so you’re getting a good price on the Heat in the LeBron next team odds.
San Antonio Spurs (+1200)
I’m more apt to take San Antonio’s price over Boston at +1000, although the Celtics could have plenty of cap space to pay James if they trade Jaylen Brown.

But I think the Spurs would be a more appealing destination because of Victor Wembanyama, who hasn’t even scratched the surface of his talent. Learning from James would be huge for “Wemby”, and James would go to a deep team where he just needs to be a good veteran and chip in. The Spurs are coming off a surprising run to the NBA Finals, where they lost in five games to the Knicks, largely due to late-game decisions. Do they win the Finals with James?
James also has a deep respect for Gregg Popovich, who is still involved with the team. I think the Spurs have an outside shot in the LeBron next team odds.
Who Are the LeBron Longshots?
These two teams could make a huge splash to land James, but it’s probably not realistic.
-
The Rockets often struggled in late-game situations, and James would automatically cure that on the offensive end. It would also be fun to see James pair up with Kevin Durant, who got the better of James in two NBA Finals when he was on the Warriors.
Houston could also make a decent contract offer to James, and an even better one if they trade Fred VanVleet. I don’t see it happening, but the Rockets could offer more than a lot of teams ahead of them in the LeBron next team odds can.
-
This is more of a fun pick, simply because James tortured Toronto fans while he was in Cleveland, where he eliminated the Raptors three years in a row. But it may not be a pipe dream as the Raptors are reportedly interested in their own reunion with Kawhi Leonard.
While they’re past their prime, James and Leonard would be a formidable duo, alongside Scottie Barnes. The Raptors have some cap space as well, although Leonard would eat into a lot of that. It’s just a thought, but crazier things have happened.
LeBron Next Team Betting Pick and Prediction
I would love to say any other team than the Warriors, but James has expressed his respect for Curry on many occasions. He has been on both ends of playing with Curry, and it would be fantastic to see these two ride off into the sunset. I don’t know if they would win a title, but I would tune in to watch almost every night.
That said, the Warriors are -1000, which means there’s no value at all. At -250, I would have thought about it. I would keep an eye on BetOnline to see if the odds change, but as of right now, I wouldn’t make a bet at that price.
