MLB Cy Young 2025 Odds for AL and NL: Skenes to Be Crowned?

With the MLB season winding down in September, the latest 2025 Cy Young odds have been updated at online bookmakers for both AL and NL! The American and National League both offer interesting options, so let’s delve into Cy Young betting markets.

There are clear favorites on each side, but is there an upset potential? Continue reading to check out the favorites to win, best underdogs, and our complete MLB Cy Young predictions for both the AL and NL!

Who Will Win Cy Young 2025?

The betting odds suggest that Paul Skenes will win the National League Cy Young Award in 2025, while Tarik Skubal is the favorite in the American League.

There aren’t any other contenders bothering Skenes and Skubal right now, but is there a shocker in store from voters?

MLB Cy Young 2025 Betting Odds

We are breaking down the most up-to-date Cy Young odds for the AL and NL Young at MLB sportsbooks. Below find the latest prices, and then we’ll delve into our 2025 CY Young picks.

2025 NL Cy Young Odds

The following NL Cy Young betting odds are courtesy of Bovada:

PLAYER ODDS
Paul Skenes (PIT) -50000
Cristopher Sanchez (PHI) +1400
Freddy Peralta (MIL) +4000
Logan Webb (SF) +10000
Robbie Ray (SF) +10000

Paul Skenes (-50000) is an overwhelming favorite to win the NL Cy Young. With Cy Young odds like this, it’s surprising that oddsmakers are offering prices! In any event, you can wager $50,000 to win $100 on Skenes to win the NL Cy Young.

At -50000 odds, Skenes owns a 99.8% implied probability to win his first Cy Young as a sophomore and first full year pitching in the Majors. So, is there really a 0.2% chance that Skenes loses? The more accurate number is probably 0.1%.

Aside from Skenes, Christopher Sanchez (+1400) is holding onto faint hope that he can win. However, +1400 odds to win the NL Cy Young is one of the worst bets I’ve seen in a while. With Skenes holding a 99.8% chance, there is no value in backing Sanchez’s underdog price at +1400, which represents a 6.7% chance.

Freddy Peralta (+4000) has had a sensational season, but well out of the race behind Skenes. Betting on Logan Webb (+10000) and Robbie Ray (+10000) is also throwing money away at this juncture.

2025 AL Cy Young Odds

The following AL Cy Young betting odds are courtesy of Bovada:

PLAYER ODDS
Tarik Skubal (DET) -4000
Garrett Crochet (BOS) +1000
Jacob deGrom (NYM) +7500
Hunter Brown (HOU) +8000
Bryan Woo (SEA) +10000
Max Fried (NYY) +10000

Tarik Skubal (-4000) is in control of the AL Cy Young race. Skubal is well out ahead of the competition, with a 97.6% implied probability to win consecutive awards. Compared to Skenes, this price nearly suggests a wide-open race to win in the American League!

All jokes aside, Skubal has all but wrapped up the AL Cy Young. He’s just waiting for his name to be called at this point. Garrett Crochet (+1000) had a strong season, but tossing money on him at this short of a price is not advised.

The rest of the board, other than Skubal, might as well be +10000 underdogs. At those odds, perhaps you could bet a few dollars for a fun bet. Otherwise, it doesn’t make much sense to back the longshot 2025 AL Cy Young betting odds.

You can find up-to-date 2025 Cy Young odds at Bovada by navigating to Sports > Baseball > MLB Awards > AL/NL Cy Young Winner.

NL Cy Young 2025 Betting Favorites

With the odds to win the Cy Young so out of control in favor of Skenes, there is only one favorite remaining as of September 19! Let’s check the huge favorite below and analyze his chances:

Paul Skenes (-50000)

In Skenes’ first season in a full-time role, the 23-year-old has lived up to expectations as a generational talent. Through 23 starts last year, Skenes posted a 1.96 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 181.2 innings.

He fully impressed, and it would have been clear if Skenes had pitched from Opening Day to October, the LSU product would have won last year.

Nevertheless, Skenes has followed up on that campaign with impressive results in 2025.

Skenes has recorded a 2.03 ERA and 0.96 WHIP through 31 games and 181.2 innings on the mound. He also leads all pitchers with a 7.4 WAR. Over his previous five starts, Skenes has been blazing hot with one or no earned runs conceded in four outings.

The Pirates’ ace has reached several milestones on the bump this season. Most notably, Skenes is the first pitcher with an ERA as low as 1.97 in the first 52 starts of his career.

That isn’t all, either. Skenes is only the seventh pitcher in Pirates’ history to reach the 200-strikeout mark in a single season. This is despite playing on a lousy baseball club that is far from competing in the NL Central.

Even though Skenes boasts the best ERA in the National League, the Fullerton, CA, native has just a record of 10-10. The Pirates are 65-88 and have lost nine of their last ten games.

Although the Pirates would like to keep Skenes, we will likely see him pitching for a winning team that is fine paying him a fortune in the future.

At -50000 odds, there isn’t much more to say, as Skenes should dominate the voting for the 2025 NL CY Young.

AL Cy Young 2025 Betting Favorites

Like the National League, there is only one favorite left on the board to analyze. With the AL Cy Young race effectively done, let’s dive in one last time:

Tarik Skubal (-4000)

On the other side, there’s a clear-cut Cy Young favorite in the American League. Following a dominant season in 2024 to win his first Cy Young, Skubal is back and looking for more this year.

With 33 first-place votes, Skubal won the first Cy Young of his career with ease. He had the best WHIP in the Majors at 0.87 and led AL pitchers with a 6.2 WAR. This season, Skubal is up to his old tricks for the Tigers.

He has an identical WAR at 6.2 and sports a fantastic 2.23 ERA through 30 starts. Skubal’s 233 strikeouts rank second in the Majors — seven behind Crochet’s 240. He all but locked up the Cy Young since catching fire in mid-August. Skubal yielded one or no earned runs in five of his previous six starts.

On August 15, Skubal had a 2.42 ERA, and the race was still open with Crochet in the mix. Since then, though, Skubal has been lights out and holding off any of his competition.

Best MLB Cy Young 2025 Sleeper Bets

In case something happens to Skenes and Skubal, consider throwing a few bucks on a big longshot for fun. Check out my best longshot 2025 MLB Cy Young picks to win:

  1. 1. National League – Freddy Peralta (+4000)

If there’s anyone else in the National League I’d be voting for to win the Cy Young, it’d have to be Brewers’ starter Freddy Peralta. Peralta did something this season that only six other pitchers have done in MLB history.

He went 29 innings straight without allowing a run. Peralta blanked five straight teams, including the Cubs, Phillies, and Blue Jays, from August 19 to September 5. Overall, Peralta holds a 2.65 ERA and 1.07 WHIP through 31 games and 169.2 innings.

Although Skenes is already in the winner’s circle, I think Peralta deserves some recognition for his underrated campaign! As a show of respect, I’ll lock in a small wager on Peralta’s NL Cy Young odds at +4000.

  2. 2. American League – Hunter Brown (+8000)

If it somehow isn’t Skubal, Astros’ starter Hunter Brown should get some votes to win the AL Cy Young. Earlier in the season, Brown was right there in the hunt alongside Skubal and Crochet.

He hit a mid-season bump but has responded incredibly well. Across 29 starts, Brown owns an ERA of 2.27 and a 1.00 WHIP in 174.1 innings. Note that Brown has been locked in with two or fewer earned runs allowed in nine straight performances.

Additionally, Brown posted a 1.67 ERA in August and currently boasts a 1.42 ERA across two starts in September. He’s heating up with the postseason around the corner and is priced too high to win the AL Cy Young at +8000.

MLB Cy Young 2025 Predictions and Betting Pick

Finally, see our best MLB Cy Young predictions and picks for the NL and AL below:

National League Cy Young Betting Pick

Skenes’ name has already been called — it just hasn’t been publicly announced yet. Barring some miraculous turn of events, with Skekes in the spotlight of a PED scandal or something similar, he’s going to collect the 2025 NL Cy Young.

That’s where the 0.2% comes from in Skenes’ 99.8% implied probability to win. Despite playing on a losing ball club and only a 10-10 record, Skenes is the only choice for the top pitching award in the National League.

With a 7.4 WAR, Skenes has been the most impactful pitcher in baseball. Additionally, his 2.03 ERA is a league-best mark that won’t be touched down the stretch.

There is too much working in Skenes’ favor, so he is the clear winner. Fortunately, I backed Skenes’ preseason Cy Young odds at +240 before Opening Day, and then again at -225 later in the season. However, at -50000, there is no value in betting Skenes to win.

American League Cy Young Betting Pick

Skubal is putting the finishing touches on back-to-back AL Cy Young campaigns in September. He is in the driver’s seat with only a couple of starts left in his regular season schedule.

The Tigers will bank hard on Skubal to carry the weight in the postseason. Going by what he’s done the last two years, Skubal should be fantastic in his second taste of playoff baseball. There isn’t much argument about who the best pitcher in the American League has been this season.

Crochet, Brown, Jacob deGrom, and Bryan Woo have all had outstanding years. However, the easy vote is on Skubal to win the AL Cy Young. Is it the easy bet, though? Not at -4000. Skubal is set to capture the award, but there is no point in laying -4000 for your MLB Cy Young picks!
