Senate Control Odds and Prediction

    • Republicans (+150)
    • Democrats (-200)

The Senate control market has undergone a major reversal since the summer, with Democrats now firmly favored to take control of the chamber in the November 3 midterm elections. The latest 2026 Senate election odds reflect a significant shift in expectations, as prediction markets increasingly price in a Democratic takeover.

Back in July, Republicans were priced at around -165, implying a 62.3% chance of retaining control. By August, that price had shortened to approximately -130, but Democrats have continued gaining ground since then. As of October 27, prediction markets give Democrats approximately a 64%-66% chance of winning Senate control, compared with roughly 34%-36% for Republicans.

That represents a remarkable change in a relatively short period. More importantly, the movement is supported by an increasingly competitive map of Senate races, with Democrats challenging Republican candidates in several states that could determine the balance of power.

The broader forecasting picture has also moved in the Democrats’ favor. According to the latest published forecast from HDR Analytics, updated October 22, Democrats have a 71% chance of controlling the Senate, compared with 27% for Republicans and a 3% chance of neither party securing a majority.

The model projects an average of 51.7 Democratic seats, against 47.9 Republican seats and 0.4 seats held by independents or others.

That forecast represents a further improvement from October 2, when the same model gave Democrats a 63% chance of control. The latest projection suggests that the Democratic advantage has strengthened as additional polling has been incorporated into the model.

They need a net gain of four seats to reach 51, meaning they must convert their improved position in competitive races into actual victories. Texas, Michigan, and Maine are among the contests worth monitoring, while Iowa presents a potential opportunity despite Republicans holding a narrow polling advantage in the latest survey.

There are still risks to the Democratic outlook. Several races remain within the margin of polling error, as late campaign developments could shift voter preferences, and prediction-market prices can move quickly as new information emerges. Even with favorable forecasts, a handful of close contests could determine which party controls the chamber.

However, the market no longer reflects the Republican advantage that existed during the summer. Democrats have become the clear favorites in the Senate control market, and forecasting models increasingly point toward a narrow Democratic majority. The way I see it, the Democrats should take control by a whisker, so back them for your Senate control predictions.

Texas Senate Race Odds and Prediction

    • Ken Paxton – R (+130)
    • James Talarico – D (-175)

The Texas Senate race is shaping up to be one of the closest and most consequential contests of the 2026 midterm elections. Democrat James Talarico remains the betting favorite over Republican Ken Paxton, but the latest polling suggests the outcome is far from certain.

A Fox News survey conducted October 15-19 has the candidates tied at 49% among likely voters. An Emerson poll gives Talarico a narrow 49%-48% advantage, while a University of Houston poll puts him ahead 48%-46%. The polling average currently shows Talarico leading Paxton by approximately 1.5-1.8 percentage points.

That represents a significant shift in a state where Democrats have not won a U.S. Senate election since 1988. Talarico has turned what was once considered a difficult Republican hold into a toss-up, with the Democrats’ appeal among independent voters and strong Democratic engagement helping fuel his campaign.

Republicans still have a compelling path to victory. Texas remains a traditionally Republican state, and President Donald Trump’s strong performance there in 2024 highlights the challenge facing Talarico. Paxton also benefits from the state’s conservative electorate and the potential for Republicans to turn out in greater numbers on Election Day.

Early voting is another major factor. More than 4.5 million Texans had already voted by October 26, representing a substantial increase compared with the same point in the 2022 midterm elections.

Early turnout has been encouraging for Democrats, although the eventual partisan breakdown and Election Day participation will be crucial in determining whether that advantage translates into victory.

My prediction is that James Talarico wins a close race, but I would be cautious about backing him at a price shorter than -200.

Ohio Senate Race Odds and Prediction

    • Jon Husted – R (+155)
    • Sherrod Brown – D (-220)

The betting market continues to move toward Sherrod Brown, with the former Ohio senator gaining ground against Republican incumbent Jon Husted ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. Brown has established himself as the favorite in the latest 2026 Ohio Senate race odds, but the current price leaves less room for bettors than earlier in the campaign.

The polling picture has been encouraging for Brown. In the latest Fox News poll, conducted October 15-19, has him leading Husted 52%-47% among likely voters. The survey also found that Brown has a favorability advantage, while economic concerns and dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump are weighing on the Republican campaign.

Other recent surveys reinforce Brown’s position. An InsiderAdvantage poll conducted October 21-22 gives Brown a 47%-44% lead, while a Marist poll puts him ahead 48%-44%. Conversely, the RealClearPolitics average has Brown leading by 3.3 percentage points, at 48.2%-44.9%.

https://twitter.com/factpostnews/status/2114068933313519623

However, the race is not entirely one-sided. A RedBox Research poll conducted October 20-23 found Brown ahead 46.9%-44.2%, a margin that falls within the survey’s 4.6-point margin of error. An earlier Rasmussen Reports survey also gave Husted a 49%-47% advantage. These results underline why Brown’s polling lead should not be mistaken for a guaranteed victory.

Brown’s financial position remains another advantage. Federal campaign finance data show that Brown has raised approximately $39 million, compared with $14.4 million for Husted. Brown’s fundraising strength gives him considerable resources to communicate with voters during the final stretch, though campaign spending alone does not determine the outcome.

Ohio backed Donald Trump by more than 11 percentage points in the 2024 presidential election, highlighting the state’s Republican lean. Husted will need to translate that underlying advantage into votes among conservative and rural voters to overcome Brown’s current polling lead. However, a lot has changed in two years, and the pendulum has shifted considerably.

My prediction is Sherrod Brown to defeat Jon Husted, with Brown holding the stronger overall position heading into Election Day. However, at -220, I would be more cautious about backing him than at his earlier prices.

The odds are fair at best right now, so I see no value bet in this market.

Alaska Senate Race Odds and Prediction

    • Dan Sullivan – R (+200)
    • Mary Peltola – D (-300)

The 2026 Senate betting market favors Mary Peltola to defeat Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan, making Alaska an important battleground in the 2026 Senate elections. However, the latest polling suggests a much closer race than Peltola’s -300 price implies.

The RealClearPolling average has Peltola narrowly ahead at approximately 49.0%-48.2%. Recent surveys from Data for Progress and InsiderAdvantage also give her slight leads, while Rasmussen Reports has Sullivan narrowly ahead. The polling suggests Peltola has the advantage, but the race remains highly competitive heading into Election Day.

Peltola’s statewide name recognition and appeal to independent voters give her a credible path to victory. Her focus on Alaska-specific issues, including energy, infrastructure, and subsistence rights, could also help her attract voters beyond the traditional Democratic base.

Sullivan remains a serious challenger, benefiting from Alaska’s Republican lean, his incumbency, and the potential for strong conservative turnout. He will look to capitalize on those advantages to overcome Peltola’s narrow polling lead.

At -300, Peltola carries an implied probability of 75%, a steep price given that the polling average shows a margin of less than one percentage point. Although prediction markets favor the Democrat, that level of confidence is difficult to justify based on the polling alone.

Expect Peltola to win, but there is only slight value here. I have Peltola with true odds of -330, so there remains an opportunity at her current price. However, I don’t suggest a large wager given the recent evidence and -300 odds.

New Mexico Democrat Victory Margin Odds and Prediction

    • Over 20.5% (-125)
    • Under 20.5% (-115)

The market has raised the projected Democratic victory margin in New Mexico, but the latest polling suggests Ben Ray Luján could fall short of the 20.5-point threshold.

Luján remains a strong favorite to defeat Republican challenger Larry Marker, but bettors need to distinguish between a likely Democratic victory and a blowout.

This prop bet opened at 15.5%, and then jumped to 19.5%, and now is likely going to settle at 20.5%. I quickly backed the Over at 15.5%, and then a smaller wager at 19.5%. However, is the percentage getting too high now?

The latest Journal Poll, conducted October 1-9, has Luján leading Marker 53%-37%, a 16-point advantage. The broader polling average puts Luján ahead by approximately 17 points, with recent surveys consistently showing him comfortably in front.

Luján also holds a substantial financial advantage. Federal campaign finance figures show he has raised approximately $9.1 million, compared with less than $100,000 for Marker.

That disparity makes it difficult for the Republican challenger to build statewide name recognition and compete with the incumbent’s campaign resources. I don’t expect residents of New Mexico to respond favorably to Trump’s comments about changing the name of the state to New America.

New Mexico’s Democratic lean further strengthens Luján’s position, and election forecasters continue to classify the race as safe for Democrats. However, the polling average remains below the 20.5-point line, meaning the Over requires Luján to outperform his current polling position.

I still expect the margin to be higher, though. Luján’s financial advantage and strong polling make a larger victory plausible, and I expect him to outperform the recent polling data for the Over 20.5% to cash.

Iowa Senate Race Odds and Prediction

    • Ashley Hinson – R (-175)
    • Josh Turek – D (+130)

The Iowa Senate race remains extremely competitive heading into the November 3 midterm elections. Republican Ashley Hinson has a slight advantage in several polling averages, but Democrat Josh Turek continues to show enough strength to make this a solid underdog opportunity.

The updated polling as of October 27 is mixed. A Marist poll gives Turek a 48%-45% lead, and a New River Strategies/GS Strategy Group survey has him ahead 46%-44%. However, the latest InsiderAdvantage poll puts Hinson in front 47%-45%, and other recent surveys also favor the Republican. The RealClearPolling average gives Hinson a narrow lead of less than one percentage point.

Iowa’s Republican lean remains a significant obstacle for Turek, particularly after Donald Trump carried the state by more than 13 points in 2024. Hinson also benefits from her party’s strength among rural voters, making her a dangerous opponent in a close race.

However, Turek’s competitive polling numbers demonstrate that Democrats have a realistic opportunity to flip the seat. His appeal to independent voters and the cost-of-living issue could prove important if he can maintain his support through Election Day.

At +130, Turek offers a potential return of $130 on a $100 wager. The late October forecasts still favor Hinson, but the narrow polling gap gives Turek a plausible path to an upset.

Maine Senate Race Odds and Prediction

    • Susan Collins – R (+110)
    • Troy Jackson – D (-150)

The Maine Senate race remains one of the closest contests of the 2026 midterms, despite Troy Jackson’s advantage in the betting market. The latest Marist poll, conducted October 22-25, has Jackson leading 49%-47%.

Additionally, a Trafalgar Group survey found that Collins has a narrow edge at 47%-46.5%, whereas a Fox News poll also put them level at 49% apiece. The RealClearPolling average gives Jackson a narrow 48.7%-47.5% advantage.

Collins remains a formidable opponent thanks to her long Senate tenure, strong name recognition, and history of outperforming polls. She also benefits from substantial campaign resources, making her difficult to dismiss despite Jackson’s recent polling edge.

Jackson, meanwhile, has emerged as a serious challenger in a state that voted for Kamala Harris by nearly seven percentage points in 2024. His working-class background and focus on local issues give Democrats a credible opportunity to flip the seat.

Jackson currently has the edge, but I prefer Collins at +110 for the value. It’s still way too close to call to lay -150 odds. Jackson has the slight polling advantage, yet Collins’ experience and history of outperforming expectations make the Republican an appealing underdog.

This remains a true toss-up, so I would avoid treating either candidate as a confident Senate betting pick.

Michigan Senate Race Odds and Prediction

    • Mike Rogers – R (+160)
    • Abdul El-Sayed – D (-240)

The Senate 2026 betting odds have shifted toward Mike Rogers, with Abdul El-Sayed’s odds decreasing from -350 to -240 in October. That reduces El-Sayed’s implied probability from 77.8% to 70.6%, while Rogers has become a more appealing underdog at +160. Despite the movement, El-Sayed remains the favorite in one of the most important 2026 Senate races.

The latest polling still gives El-Sayed a narrow advantage. A Marist poll has him leading Rogers 50%-48% among likely voters, compared to an InsiderAdvantage survey that shows El-Sayed ahead 47%-46%. Moreover, broader polling averages generally give El-Sayed a lead of around two to three percentage points.

Dearborn and its large Arab American electorate remain important factors. El-Sayed’s ability to attract independent voters and maintain strong turnout in Democratic-leaning communities could prove decisive. However, voters’ preferences are not uniform, making turnout and late campaign developments particularly important.

Rogers also has a credible path to victory. Michigan remains competitive at the statewide level, and recent polling shows that El-Sayed’s lead is far from insurmountable. The tightening betting market suggests traders are becoming less confident in a comfortable Democratic victory, even though the latest surveys still favor El-Sayed.

The Republican campaign, including Trump’s efforts, is attempting to link El-Sayed to the Muslim Brotherhood, with some chapters of the group classified as a terrorist organization in several countries.

Abdul El-Sayed may get the win, but Rogers is the value pick at +160. El-Sayed retains the polling advantage, yet the market movement and relatively narrow margins make Rogers worth considering as an underdog to win in Michigan.
