There is no doubt that Pogačar should be the betting favorite, but does he deserve to have a -500 price? That’s worth questioning, even if he does appear to be several notches ahead of the rest of this field. Missing Giro’d Italia could be the difference-maker here.
Well-rested and motivated to make it three straight titles, Pogačar has roughly a 85% chance to win, in my estimates.
Jonas Vingegaard – Can the Dane Flip the Script?

At 29 years old, Vingegaard enters the 2026 Tour de France with a massive chip on his shoulder and a plenty of momentum. The Team Visma | Lease a Bike leader is looking to recapture the yellow jersey he won in 2022 and 2023, attempting to halt Pogačar’s run in France over the last two years.
The Dane is coming off a strong performance in the Giro d’Italia to complete the career Grand Slam. He had already won the Tour de France in 2022 and 2023 and Vuelta a España in 2025. All Vingegaard needed was the Giro d’Italia and he delivered in May.
Since 2019, Jonas Vingegaard has been fighting amongst the greatest cyclists of all time. After conquering the Tour de France in 2022 and 2023 and the Vuelta a España in 2025, he now completes a historic trilogy, achieved by only a select few.

Vingegaard won five stages, en route to a statement victory following a couple of close calls on the route earlier in the race. Despite losing the Tour de France to Pogačar last year, he responded nicely and his form carried over to this season.
In 2025, after finishing runner-up to Pogačar at the Tour de France, he rebounded with a spectacular victory at the Vuelta a España, capturing three stage wins and dismantling the field on the brutal slopes of Bola del Mundo.
In other words, Vingegaard has won his last two Grand Tour starts, albeit Pogačar didn’t participate in either race. Having said that, Vingegaard should find success on this route. The mountain-choked 2026 route is tailor-made to the Dane’s supreme talents, playing perfectly into his strategy of high-altitude attrition.
The back-to-back mountain finishes on Alpe d’Huez, especially Stage 20’s savage combination of the towering 2,642-meter Col du Galibier and the merciless Col de Sarenne approach, are the exact type of climbing days where Vingegaard historically does well, offering him an opportunity to hang with Pogačar. He might need to catch a break to win, but should offer more of a fight than in 2025.
Vingegaard represents a value play to consider for anyone looking to fade the heavily favored Pogačar. If you think the main favorite won’t win, his Danish rival is the most likely cyclist to beat him.
Paul Seixas – Can the Rookie Shock the World?

At just 19 years old, the rising star is set to become the youngest Tour de France rider in nearly nine decades. Riding for Decathlon CMA CGM, Seixas skipped the developmental ranks entirely after a stellar run that included winning the 2025 Tour de l’Avenir and the 2026 Itzulia Basque Country and Flèche Wallonne.
The mountain-heavy 2026 route is a dream for the rookie, who grew up training on the Alpine slopes featured in the final week. He might be inexperienced, but don’t expect Seixas to be too intimidated by the task at hand. The young Frenchman earned his spot on the biggest stage in the world across the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
In late 2025, he introduced himself to the cycling world by conquering the prestigious Tour de l’Avenir (the Tour of the Future) and securing a brilliant bronze medal at the Elite European Championships.
He kicked off 2026 on a tear, capturing a WorldTour stage win at the Volta ao Algarve, taking the overall crown at the Itzulia Basque Country, and winning the historic Flèche Wallonne. Perhaps his best effort yet, he finished as the runner-up behind Tadej Pogačar at Liège–Bastogne–Liège.

As the race deepens into the high-altitude territory of the Pyrenees and the massive double-assault of Alpe d’Huez in the final week, Seixas’ climbing pedigree and fearless tactical mindset make him the ultimate wild card capable of shocking the cycling world.
His odds to win the Tour de France at +800 suggest somewhat of a longshot, but if Pogacar crashes, Seixas could be there to capitalize.

While the frontrunners have the clear advantage, there are a couple of longshots to consider betting on to win the 2026 Tour de France:

I expect Pogačar to have two or three more dominant seasons before he begins to regress. Vingegaard will likely start to slow down as well, which should usher in a new era of riders, including Seixas. I’d look for him to win the Tour de France at some point, but not this year.
For now, Pogačar is far from done. Even after winning back-to-back Tour de France titles, he’s chasing history as the first cyclist to win six. He would also join only four others who have three-peated, so I expect his motivation to remain high despite all his success.
Vingegaard is always a threat, but he should wear down against the more rested Pogačar, who skipped the Giro d’Italia.
Accidents are part of cycling, which is always worth keeping in mind, but if Pogačar stays out of trouble, he should have the race effectively wrapped up well before Stage 20. By the time we reach Stage 15, I think he should be around -3000 to win the race, so I’m comfortable backing him for your 2026 Tour de France winner picks even at this hefty price.!
