Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal 2 Betting Odds, Analysis, and Prediction

The Diaz vs. Masvidal 2 betting odds for their highly anticipated rematch are now live at the best boxing betting sites. Rather than a rematch in the UFC Octagon, Diaz and Masvidal are stepping into the squared circle for a boxing match!

This likely isn’t how many fans envisioned Diaz and Masvidal’s next fight would go, but crossover boxing matches are all the rage.

Diaz vs. Jorge 2 is scheduled for June 1 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, CA. Below, I break down the latest odds and disclose my best Diaz vs. Masvidal 2 prediction in this article.

This isn’t the first time that Diaz and Masvidal have stepped into a boxing ring. Masvidal’s combat sports career started with a bit of stand-up work as a boxer in the mid-2000s. Meanwhile, Diaz made his professional debut against Jake Paul in August 2023.

According to the latest Masvidal vs. Diaz 2 odds, most sports betting sites view Masvidal as the clear favorite. The price of -275 for him at Bovada indicates an implied probability of 73.3% for a win over Diaz in the boxing ring.

Let’s discuss the rules of the encounter before I share my thoughts on both fighters’ chances.

Diaz vs. Masvidal 2 Fight Rules

The Diaz vs. Masvidal fight will be held under boxing rules that will vary considerably compared to the UFC.

Most obviously, takedowns will not be permitted. Additionally, the fight will consist of ten, three-minute rounds.

The fight is expected to take place at light heavyweight (175 pounds). There are no special rules regarding knockdowns — normal boxing rules apply.

During his MMA career, Diaz was one of the most feared southpaws in the UFC. Despite being right-handed, “The Stockton Slugger” leads with a left jab in an unorthodox style.

He can come from multiple angles to catch his opponents off-guard. Diaz does not follow a traditional approach on his feet. This can make it difficult for opponents to prepare for what is coming.

That said, Diaz is not known for having the most power, which can be especially disadvantageous in the boxing ring. His success in MMA was primarily due to his fast and relentless pace to gain the upper hand, not necessarily because of KO power in his arsenal.

Masvidal’s transition from the Octagon to the boxing ring should be fluid. He’s a natural boxer with great timing and power.

The guy was often compared to a street brawler in the UFC, but that’s not entirely accurate. There is a technical aspect to Masvidal’s style, with brawling elements included. That is exactly what he managed to do against Diaz in their first match.

With Diaz bloodied and a cut over his eye, the fight was called off and Masvidal was awarded the win. He worked on his opponent’s face and split him open to force a doctor’s stoppage.

In a boxing match, Diaz can’t take this fight to the ground and avoid a repeat of what happened in the UFC. If this were a rematch in the Octagon, Diaz likely would have tried to get this fight to the ground, but he’ll have to out-brawl Masvidal standing up.

Boxing Latest Form

Diaz Results:

  • 5, 2023 – LOSS vs. Jake Paul (TKO)

Masvidal Results:

  • June 28, 2005 – WIN Joseph Benjamin (Majority Decision)

In June 2005, Masvidal had his first professional boxing match against a little-known opponent in Miami. He defeated Joseph Benjamin by majority decision for the first and only boxing win of his career.

Benjamin is a 1-11-2 boxer, so this was a small test for Masvidal before he went on to have a long and successful MMA career that includes a record of 35-17-0 through his last fight versus Gilbert Burns on April 8, 20231.

Following his fourth straight loss in the UFC, Masvidal announced his retirement but is returning to face Diaz.

Meanwhile, Diaz recently made his professional boxing debut against Jake Paul in August 2023. It didn’t look like he took this one seriously. The former UFC star was out of shape and had his hands up trying to guard against Paul’s punches more than going on the offensive.

It was more of a test of whether Diaz could get the fight to a decision than score a knockout. The veteran showed up, got paid, and then dipped. This time, however, will Diaz come to this contest more prepared?

Let’s delve into my final predictions and Diaz vs. Masvidal 2 best bets for this unique matchup at the Kia Forum.

Diaz vs. Masvidal 2 Matchup

Diaz must have a solid camp to find better results than he did against Paul. If he treats this fight as just yet another payday and not a match he wants to win, then the results aren’t going to be much different. Masvidal will rearrange his face once again.

Diaz looked incredibly out of his element and out of place in a boxing ring against Paul. He was never aggressive and inflicted little damage in the fight. I expect a more serious approach for the Masvidal bout.

However, I don’t believe Diaz can fix his gas tank at 38 years old. As a younger fighter, he was able to push the pace and take the fight to his opponents. As he’s gotten older, this isn’t the case, so one of his greatest strengths has diminished significantly.

If Diaz had been training properly with the same determination he had earlier in his career, it wouldn’t be as much of an issue, despite his age. Nevertheless, Diaz doesn’t have the same motivation, so naturally he’s not going to have the same cardio as he did earlier in his career.

He won his last UFC fight against this sad Tony Ferguson version in September 2022, but lost back-to-back matches versus Masvidal and then Leon Edwards in June 2021 prior to the win. Diaz was able to rely on a submission to end Ferguson’s night at UFC 2792.

Motivation shouldn’t be much of an issue for Masvidal. He wants to resume his career and get some fights after the rematch against Diaz. The only way that will happen is if he’s impressive in a winning effort on June 1.

Diaz vs. Masvidal Prediction and Betting Pick

For Diaz to have success, he will need to aim for an early knockout. Otherwise, he’ll run out of gas and have nothing left for the later rounds.

That said, Diaz doesn’t have the boxing power required to end this fight early. If it’s similar to their first bout, the veteran won’t be able to bother Masvidal with his fists.

That’s why the Diaz vs. Masvidal 2 odds understandably favor the “Gamebred”.

I evaluate Masvidal’s chances to win at roughly 80%, which beats his implied chance of 73.3% at -275 odds. That’s why my Diaz vs. Masvidal 2 betting pick is to back the same outcome as the first fight, even if this one is in a boxing ring.
