Our team has prepared seven different variations that include classic squares, but also plenty of versions with a twist! Check them out to pick the best option for your needs.

I’ve also explained how March Madness squares work after the templates, in case you’re not sure about the rules.

Classic March Madness 2024 Squares For Single Games

Let’s begin with the classic March Madness squares templates that can be used for every game from the tournament. We have two options for this one, starting with the version that includes numbers. It’s a simpler one that doesn’t require much work.

If you have favorite numbers, this March Madness squares template allows you to pick them. You could say there’s some strategy involved because you have a choice, but it’s still mostly luck.

The second variant of the classic NCAA Basketball Tournament squares is entirely based on luck. It doesn’t include any numbers, so you can decide how to distribute them. You can have a random draw to assign a number to each square or go for another method.

March Madness 2024 Tournament Squares

If you want a March Madness squares template for the entire NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament, we’ve got you covered!

It’s an excellent option for an office pool or another March Madness contest that you want to run. It features squares for all rounds from the competition.

This one’s more complicated, but it works well if you want a long-term solution. We also have printable March Madness squares for single games that come with a twist, so let’s focus on them next.

Alternative March Madness 2024 Squares For Individual Games

I like the classic squares, but throughout the years I’ve found interesting alternatives that you should consider. Some of them are designed for a smaller number of contestants, making them a viable option even for small groups of college basketball fans.

Let’s take a look!

10-Line March Madness 2024 Squares Template

The grid of the 10-line squares template for March Madness is slightly different than the classic option, but it’s fairly simple to understand. You have only one number here instead of two, which equals the combined points scored by both teams.

For example, a score of 21-15 equals 36 points, so 6 is the winning number.

The classic use of this one is for groups of ten people that could pick one square each. If you have fewer contestants, adjust the rules by picking more than one square each.

25-Line March Madness 2024 Squares Template

If you don’t have a large pool of contestants, you should consider the 25-line version of March Madness squares. Each player can pick two squares in this one, the other rules are pretty much the same.

50-Line Printable March Madness Squares Sheet

If you want a freaky version of the squares game, you can go for this one. It allows you to pick two numbers for one of the teams and one for the other.

This one mostly works for awkward number of players.

March Madness 2024 Squares Template With Quarter Lines

Finally, we have the March Madness squares template with quarter lines. Some people find it too complicated, but I like how you have so much to root for. It makes the game more exciting, so I’m a fan!

The best part is that the numbers change for each quarter, adding a pinch of chaos to the entire experience.

How Do March Madness Squares Work?

If you’re not sure how March Madness squares work, I’m here to help with some instructions. You can use most of the templates here for any individual March Madness game or you could go for the squares template for the entire tournament. The main principles remain the same.

Before the start of the selected game (or the tournament, if you went that route), you need to distribute the squares.

You can do that randomly or each player can pick or buy (if you add money to the pool) a square. Each square features a number between 0 and 9 that is either pre-filled (like in our squares template with numbers) or filled in with a number after all squares are bought/distributed.

You can assign the numbers to the squares in multiple different ways, but a random draw is the most common option.

Once the match starts, you check the scores after each quarter/half/game (depending on the template you picked). The last digit of the score of each team counts for the squares game and the person who has it wins.

For example, you get a square with the number 3 for Team A for the first quarter. Your team scores 23 points and you win. Rinse and repeat for each quarter/half, depending on the template you used.

You can always make the game more interesting by putting some real money on your March Madness squares, but make sure you’re responsible if you do that.

The prize pool of all entries is usually distributed by awarding 20% to the winners after each of the first three quarters and the last 40% for the final score. However, feel free to figure out a different approach like splitting the money equally after each quarter, for example.
