There are more horse racing picks on the menu Thursday. We’re entering a big weekend soon. The action begins at Charles Town tomorrow, with the running of the million-dollar Charles Town Classic (Gr. 2) and $500,000 Charles Town Oaks (Gr. 3).
We have two cards covered for Thursday at Delaware Park and Charles Town in the evening hours. Charles Town has eight events worth $215,500 in primetime tonight. Head below for our best Charles Town picks on August 25, 2022.
Race 3
Race 3 is a $33,900 race covering 4 ½ furlongs on the dirt. Look for Entry Time and Mr Chance Romance to have a leading chance for a win in the third tonight.
Entry Time is 1 for 9 and a top-3 performer in four straight races going into this one. He’s finished 2nd, 1st, 2nd in his previous three performances.
Entry Time ran well to a $32,700 win on June 30 by a head. Well done over Unison after placing 2nd Cats Diamond Boy by 3 lengths a few weeks earlier.
Mr Chance Romance made his debut on March 16 and carried on well for a $29,700 win by 3 ½ lengths. The gelding had a layoff following that strong performance.
All signs are positive from his workouts and look good to go in this field.
Race 5
Race 6 is a $42,000 event covering 5 furlongs on the dirt. Freedom Rider and Pistol P are well positioned to do damage at Charles Town tonight.
Freedom Rider is 3 for 16 in his career and finished 1st, 5th, 6th in his previous three starts. In his latest start, Freedom Rider beat Jaxjaxxorjacks by 3 lengths for $23,000.
That was well done, but down in class off his recent efforts. Freedom Rider finished 5th on July 23 for a $35,100 purse.
Pistol P has the inside edge from the rail in Race 6. He’s 1st, 3rd, 7th in his previous three outings. In his latest start, Pistol P beat Political Decision by ¾ lengths on July 29 for a $19,400 prize.
That was a strong performance after showing 3rd on July 14 for a $29,700 prize. I’m backing Pistol P from the inside.
Race 6
Race 6 is a $33,900 race under the lights covering 7 furlongs. Villareggia and Musical Cat are likely to get involved in the final furlong.
Villareggia is 1 for 17 and finished 3rd, 1st, 4th in her previous three starts. The mare is coming off a decent effort to show 3rd for a $33,900 purse.
This was after beating Truly a Dream by 7 ½ lengths for a $25,000 purse. Is he ready to tackle a $33,900 event this time?
Musical Cat might be too tough. She is looking for something easier after struggling to get into the mix at Laurel Park and Pimlico.
In her most recent start, Musical Cat finished 8th for a $36,260 purse on June 11. She was 6th on June 5 in a $36,440 purse.
Expect Musical Cat to find much weaker foes at Charles Town than she experienced at Laurel Park and Pimlico. Musical Cat likely has enough.
