Del Mar Picks for August 7, 2022 – Horse Racing Betting Tips

TheSportsGeek brings you horse racing betting tips from the east and west coast on Sunday afternoon. The biggest race this weekend was the $1,000,000 Whitney Stakes (Gr. 1). The Whitney was a million-dollar race and Breeders’ Cup qualifier.

LIFE IS GOOD IMPRESSES
Life Is Good was much the best, as he was fast out of the gate and cleared for a wire-to-wire win in the Whitney. With a speed figure of 125, there wasn’t anyone beating Life Is Good.

For picks earlier in the afternoon, check out our Saratoga Race Course. Head below for our best Del Mar picks on August 7, 2022. Del Mar has 11 races worth $878,000 in prize money.

  • Distance:5 ½ Furlongs
  • Purse: $30,000

The opener at Del Mar is a $30,000 trip covering 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt. Consider looking at Square Footage and Darling Donna to get involved with a chance at a winning run.

Square Footage is making her second attempt on Sunday afternoon. She’s been off since showing 3rd on November 14 in a $70,000 assignment on November 14.

That was a fine showing given those terms. In her latest workout, Square Footage ran well in a 4-furlong workout at 49.80 seconds. A drop in class to $30,000 should help considerably.

Darling Donna is winless in eight attempts, finishing 4th, 9th, 5th in her previous three outings. In her latest workout, Darling Donna finished 4th in a $36,000 event on July 24.

Despite the loss, her speed figures have been the best and recent workouts have been promising. She was timed at 48 and 48.80 seconds in 4 furlongs. Darling Donna is likely the best.

  • Post Time:3:05 p.m. PST
  • Distance:1 Mile
  • Purse: $80,000

The third event at Del Mar covers a mile for an $80,000 purse on the turf. Park City and Crypto Man are where I’m looking at in Race 3.

Crypto Man is making his debut and should get involved right away in his career. The colt is a $120,000 horse, which was purchased at auction in April.

The son of Funtastic, Crypto Man has some pedigree to his name. Workouts have gone well enough and he might be a surprise candidate as a rookie.

Park City made his first run on June 10 at Santa Anita Park. The Dan Blacker trainee was a $200,000 purchase last September.

He held well in that race, placing 2nd behind Sharp Aza Tack by 2 ¼ lengths for a $67,000 prize. Park City should be open to improvement in his second race. From the rail, Park City should be tough.

Best Bet
(1) PARK CITY

Race 4

(1) Lemon Sushi
+800 (8/1)
(2) Leyas Candy
+300 (3/1)
(3) Cribbage Board
+800 (8/1)
(4) Dad Bod
+1200 (12/1)
(5) Thorne House
+250 (5/2)
(6) Stanford North
+1200 (12/1)
(7) Magnificent Ride
+400 (4/1)
(8) American Cat
+600 (6/1)
(9) Go Laker Go
+2000 (20/1)
  • Post Time:3:37 p.m. PST
  • Distance:6 Furlongs
  • Purse:$80,000

Race 4 is an $80,000 event covering 6 furlongs on the dirt. Look at Leyas Candy and Thorne House to be top contenders in the fourth at Del Mar.

Leyas Candy has finished 2nd and 5th in two career starts. He placed 2nd behind Super Chief by 1 ¼ lengths in a $67,000 race on May 13. That was an acceptable outing.

The colt came back on June 5 and dropped to 5th in a $67,000 assignment. Leyas Candy needs to improve from that event if he wants a win on Sunday.

Thorne House was in good form in his first assignment on June 5. He ran well ahead of Leyas Candy in that race.

Thorne House was a half-length away from a win and 5 lengths ahead of Leyas Candy. No. 5 should be the best in Race 4.

(5) THORNE HOUSE
