There is more horse racing on Tuesday, with several of the smaller racecourses having an opportunity in the spotlight on this card. Saratoga will return on Wednesday to take some of the shine off their spotlight, though.
Mountaineer Park has eight races worth $105,300 tonight. Post time for the first event is 7:00 p.m. EST. For more horse racing picks, check out our Louisiana Downs. Head below for our best Mountaineer Park picks for August 16, 2022.
Race 1
The first race at Mountaineer Park is scheduled for 7 furlongs on the turf. Consider looking at Loopy and Giro Kate to run well in this one.
Giro Kate is 11 for 47 and in the best form of her career as of late. The mare has finished 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st in her previous five outings.
In her latest win, Giro Kate beat Flowzano by 3 lengths in a $14,200 event on May 15. That was a solid run after winning a $14,600 race on April 24.
Loopy is 9 for 37 and 5th, 3rd, 1st, 3rd in her previous four attempts. She was a $28,600 winner on June 1. Loopy defeated Enhanced Nile by 5 lengths in that relatively easy win.
In her most recent attempt, Loopy finished 5th in the $75,000 West Virginia Senate President’s Cup Stakes on August 6. Back down in class to $14,200, this should be too easy.
Race 4
Race 4 is an $8,300 event covering 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt. You should consider Rushing Time and Despeight All Odds having a strong chance in the fourth at Mountaineer.
Rushing Time should have a chance to get this done from the outside. The mare is 1st, 2nd, 3rd going into Tuesday.
She is coming off a 2 ½ length win in a $7,900 event on August 7. That was impressive, but this race should be tougher. Rushing Time placed 2nd behind Cat Lak by 2 ½ lengths on July 25 in a $7,900 event, so the improvement was there.
Despeight All Odds is 3 for 17 and another consistent runner recently. She’s 2nd, 1st, 2nd in her previous three starts.
In her latest start, Despeight All Odds placed 2nd behind Sunshinenrainbows by 1 ½ lengths on July 26 for an $8,100 purse. That was after a 9 ¾ length blowout in a $7,900 event a couple of weeks earlier.
I’m backing No. 2 to edge out Rushing Time at the wire.
Race 5
Race 5 is a mile and 70-yard event on the dirt. Consider playing Gaultier and Tribulation on the dirt in this one.
Tribulation is 3 for 30 and has finished 3rd, 4th, 4th, 3rd in his previous four starts. In his latest start, Tribulation showed 3rd for $8,100 on July 31.
He’s been hovering around that mark in this class since May. Tribulation is competitive, but is just missing out on catching a break. Tonight could be the day for Tribulation.
Gaultier is 7 for 43 and 4th, 2nd, 2nd in his previous three performances. In his latest start, Gaultier finished 4th for a $7,900 event on August 2.
That wasn’t his best work, but he’s capable of much better. He was hooked between two horses and had nowhere to go. That was a tough break. A clean trip for Gaultier should put him in the winner’s circle.
