One of the more intriguing games in the early window of football is the Seattle Seahawks heading across the country to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in an early encounter. The Chiefs are very much hoping to secure homefield advantage throughout the post-season, and are well aware that they cannot take their foot off of the pedal if they want to beat out rival teams in the AFC.

Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid have been dominant in the latter months of the regular season during their time together in Kansas City. They’ve secured a 34-5 straight up record, but have struggled covering big numbers. In fact, Mahomes is 21-23-1 ATS in the regular season at Arrowhead Stadium.
With a pesky Seahawks side entering, Pete Carroll should have his crew prepped for one last playoff push for this 7-7 club. Despite some key losses, Geno Smith has been fairly excellent here in 2022, and getting several points of value – this Seahawks’ squad should be able to keep things tight.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Kansas City Chiefs Prediction
While the Chiefs have been somewhat lacklustre in recent showings, expect them to flip the switch in the very near future – likely beginning this week. It’s a cyclical thing for Andy Reid and Kansas City. They know they’re a great team, and don’t want to over-exert themselves, their playbook, or their franchise QB in Patrick Mahomes before the playoffs. They’ve been sluggish of late, but should get back on track against Seattle’s porous defense in Week 16.
The Seahawks have been abysmal on defense, and there is virtually nothing they do well when they don’t have the football. They enter with the bottom-ranked defense in the entire league according to adjusted EPA, and are particularly brutal against rush offenses. That could spell trouble for the Seahawks as the Chiefs have been relying quite heavily on veteran Jerick McKinnon in recent weeks, and he enters in fine form. He’s been red hot, and his elusiveness should trouble Seattle’s porous defensive line.

Seattle has also been woeful when it comes to getting pressure and contact on opposing QB’s. Saturday should be more of the same, and if you’re going to give Mahomes time and space in the pocket – he’s going to pick your secondary apart. He’s one of the best clean pocket passers of all-time, and look for huge numbers for this Chiefs’ offense.
On the other side of the football, the reason the Seahawks have stayed afloat this season has been their passing game, and Geno Smith. That said, some warts have begun to show in Seattle, and they’ll be magnified this week as Seattle will be forced to play without a key target in Tyler Lockett. He’s been a solid and consistent option for Smith, and without him, look for Kansas City to just key in on DK Metcalf downfield. Options will be limited for Smith through the air.

Seattle might be able to get the chains moving via the ground game, but Kenneth Walker’s injury looms large. He is iffy to play, and if not – the trio of backup options don’t inspire much confidence. This Kansas City defense can and has been beat this season, but it’s tough to see Seattle matching them and keeping pace, devoid of a key piece like Tyler Lockett.

The Chiefs can name their score, and should have no issue securing a healthy blowout victory on Christmas Eve.
