As a die-hard fan of my beloved Chicago Cubs, I can’t help but feel the tension brewing for this weekend’s matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field. If you ask me, there’s nothing quite like a good ol’ rivalry game to get the heart pumping. It feels like we’ve been waiting ages for this, and now that it’s finally here, I couldn’t be more excited to see how our boys in blue fare against those pesky Brew Crew.
Let’s talk about pitching first. Jameson Taillon is set to take the mound for us. Sure, he may have a record of 1-1 and a respectable 4.0 ERA on paper, but let me remind you—the guy has been putting in work and getting better with each start! He carries an impressive strikeout rate just below 8 K’s per nine innings which shows he can miss bats when he needs to. Given that he recently shut out Milwaukee in our last encounter with a hefty 10-0 victory, I’m optimistic he can keep up that momentum and silence their lineup again.
Now onto the other side—Jose Quintana will be opposing Taillon. Don’t let his perfect record of 4-0 fool you; his ERA is sitting at a less-than-stellar 4.2. The man has managed to stay undefeated, but every dog has its day—today might just be ours! The Cubs have had success scoring runs off Quintana in past matchups so I’m confident our offense will exploit any weaknesses he may show.
Speaking of offense, boy do we have firepower! We’re averaging over 6 runs per game while hitting around .258 with nearly 10 hits per game—that’s hard-hitting baseball right there! Our boys are driving runners in like it’s their job (oh wait—it is!) with over 6 RBIs per outing too. On top of that, our slugging percentage sits at an impressive 77%, which means we’re making solid contact and finding gaps consistently.
Meanwhile, I can’t ignore Milwaukee’s batting numbers entirely—even though they don’t thrill me as much as my Cubs’. They do score just over 5 runs a game and have some solid hitters—but let’s not kid ourselves; they haven’t been too consistent lately. In fact, they’ve lost three out of their last nine games!
The oddsmakers opened this matchup with us as slight favorites (-105) despite recent history showing Chicago has dominated Milwaukee lately—especially after last week’s thrashing in which we won by ten runs! This brings me to what I predict: expect another high-scoring affair because both teams seem likely to push that total beyond the opening line of 8.5 runs.
In summary: Saturday night should bring fireworks between two familiar foes—and while it pains me to say this (for superstition reasons), I’m going all-in on the Cubs pulling off another decisive win against the Brewers once more. And hey—I’ll be wearing my lucky jersey all day long as I cheer from my seat!
Let’s go Cubbies!!!
