Best Bets for the Champions League Today, January 20 (With Reasoning)
Here are the detailed versions of my UCL best bets for today, January 20.
FC Copenhagen vs. Napoli: Over 2.5 Goals (+122)
I was baffled to see that the main totals line on a Copenhagen game is only set at 2.25, regardless of the opposition. The Danish side’s six games in the Champions League so far have produced a whopping 27 goals, for an average of more than 4 per game. Copenhagen can only play one way: full throttle!
I suspect the bookies picked this line because of Napoli’s solid defensive record in Serie A, but their Champions League results suggest the team can be shaky at the back. Napoli’s six games so far have produced a total of 17 goals, for almost three per game.
Furthermore, both sides are backs against the wall. They sit 23rd (Napoli) and 24th (Copenhagen) in the UCL table, with the top 24 progressing to the next round. The teams are essentially on the bubble, and losing this game could be devastating for their season.
In theory, this could lead to a cagey opener, but as soon as the first goal’s in, all hell will break loose. Getting +122 for over 2.5 goals in this clash is my top Champions League pick for today.
Tottenham vs. Borussia Dortmund: Dortmund to Win (+142)
This bet is entirely based on the current atmosphere at Tottenham. The Spurs are struggling badly in the Premier League, sitting 14th in the table. Most of the supporters want Thomas Frank out after roughly six months at the helm, the team is ridden with injuries, and it’s been getting really ugly.
😡 "You're getting sacked in the morning!"

Honestly, when your own fans sing against your manager at home, it’s hard to see a way out. Frank is a dead man walking and everyone knows it, including the players.
That’s why I like Borussia Dortmund’s chances in this clash. Sure, Spurs have performed better in the Champions League compared to the EPL, but that was earlier in the season, when there was still some optimism around the club.
That’s gone and forgotten now, while the Spurs injury list doesn’t help. Maddison, Bentancur, Kudus, Richarlison, Palinha, Kulusevski, and Ben Davies are all out of this clash, with a few more players doubtful.
Borussia Dortmund’s potent attack should be able to deliver more than once, while Spurs in their current form would struggle to create many opportunities. That’s why I’m more happy to back the Germans in my UCL predictions today at +142.
