Senegal vs. Egypt Odds and Predictions – Which Team Wins This AFCON Semifinal?

Senegal vs. Egypt odds for the first semifinal in the Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday are leaning towards Senegal. However, Egypt has improved throughout the tournament. Who wins in this rematch of the 2021 AFCON Final, which Senegal won on penalties?

I’ll examine each team’s path through the tournament, and give you my AFCON semifinal betting prediction at the end of this article!

Egypt vs. Senegal Odds (SNAPSHOT)

These AFCON semifinal odds are courtesy of Lucky Rebel:

TEAM MONEYLINE SPREAD TOTAL TIE NO BET TO ADVANCE
Senegal +115 0, -0.5 (-125) OVER 2.0 (-110) -218 -175
Egypt +310 0, +0.5 (+103) UNDER 2.0 (-110) +162 +145

Top soccer betting sites favor Senegal (+115) on the moneyline, and they have a 46.5% implied probability to reach the AFCON final for the fourth time! Egypt (+310) comes back with a 24.4% implied probability for an upset in Tangier on Wednesday, and they make for a dangerous underdog!

Senegal is also the favorite in a tie no bet wager at -218 (these are the odds disregarding a tie; if there is a tie, the bet is refunded), and they’re -175 favorites to advance to the final. Egypt is a +162 underdog in the tie no bet odds, and priced at +145 to advance.

These two African powerhouses have met 15 times, with Senegal winning six, Egypt winning seven, and there have been two draws. Senegal and Egypt were scoreless after 120 minutes of play in the 2021 AFCON final (played in February 2022). Senegal won 4-2 on penalties to claim their first Africa Cup of Nations title. The main men for Senegal and Egypt are Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah, respectively. Of course, they played together at Liverpool for five seasons, forming, arguably, the greatest forward partnership in Liverpool history.

Senegal – Can the Lions of Teranga Roar into the Final?

  • 1st Place in Group D
  • Won 3-1 vs. Sudan (Round of 16)
  • Won 1-0 vs. Mali (Quarterfinals)

Senegal was my AFCON winner betting pick before the tournament started, and they’ve managed to make it to the final four! The Lions of Teranga drew 1-1 against DR Congo in the group stage, but won their other two games to top Group D. They strolled to a 3-1 win over Sudan in the Round of 16, then beat 10-man Mali 1-0 in the quarterfinals.

Senegal has gotten scoring from all over, as three players have scored two goals, while five players have scored one. Sadio Mane has scored once, but he’s been a threat throughout the tournament, and Mane will need to lead his team in Tangier on Wednesday.

They’ve also been stout defensively, as Senegal has allowed just two goals. Captain Kalidou Koulibaly is 34 and plying his trade in Saudi Arabia, but the former Napoli and Chelsea player has been immense. Keeper Edouard Mendy has also been solid between the sticks.

I don’t think Senegal has played their best game yet, and Wednesday would be a good time for it. They’ll likely have more of the ball, so their ability to keep track of Egypt on the counterattack is essential to their Senegal vs. Egypt betting odds.

Egypt – Will Salah Lead the Pharaohs Back to Glory?

  • 1st Place in Group B
  • Won 3-1 vs. Benin in extra time (Round of 16)
  • Won 3-2 vs. Ivory Coast (Quarterfinals)

The seven-time AFCON champions did just enough to win Group B, beating Zimbabwe 2-1, South Africa 1-0, and drawing Angola 0-0. The Pharaohs needed extra time to down Benin 3-1, and then had to hold off the Ivory Coast for a 3-2 win in the quarterfinals.

Mo Salah next team odds are a hot market, but right now, Salah is focused on his national team and leading the way. The Liverpool legend is tied for second with four goals in the tournament, and all of his goals have come at important times. Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush has scored twice, but it’s clear that Salah is still the main man for Egypt.

Egypt has allowed four goals, including two against a good Ivory Coast team, although one was an own goal. Manager Hossam Hassan has tinkered with the formation, depending on the opposition, playing a flat four at the back sometimes, but he played three at the back against the Ivory Coast. Could this defensive indecisiveness cost Egypt?

The Pharaohs can beat anyone in Africa with Salah and Marmoush up front. But I’m skeptical about the rest of the team against Senegal.

Senegal vs. Egypt Betting Prediction and Pick

I have to stick with the Lions of Teranga as my Senegal vs. Egypt betting prediction! I think their defense is equipped to deal with Egypt’s attack, and I believe they’re stronger in midfield. Mané will need to play his best game, while getting support from Iliman Ndiaye.

You can take Senegal’s +115 moneyline wager, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if this game went to extra time, or even penalties. In their 15 head-to-head matchups, only two meetings have been decided by more than one goal. I would take their Senegal vs. Egypt odds to advance at -175 just to be safe.
