As a die-hard Cubs fan, it’s hard to swallow the recent struggles of my team, especially with our boys taking the field against the Mets at Citi Field this Saturday. But let’s break it down—there’s no better time than now to get into the nitty-gritty of this matchup!
First up, we’ve got Brad Keller on the mound for the Cubs. With a record of 0-0 and an ERA hovering around 3.9, he’s still looking for that first win. While his strikeout rate isn’t terrible at around 7.8 per nine innings, he’ll need to find another gear if we want to end this three-game losing streak. The Cubs have been floundering lately; they’re just 1-4 in their last five games and seem to struggle against teams like the Mets.
Now let’s talk about the Mets’ ace, Tylor Megill. His performance has been impressive with a record of 3-2 and an eye-popping ERA below 3 (specifically at around 2.9). He’s striking out over nine batters per game! That’s alarming for a Cubs lineup that needs more consistency at the plate if we’re going to turn things around today.
Offensively, the stats paint an interesting picture. My beloved Cubs are averaging over six runs per game with a batting average sitting comfortably above .250. That’s not too shabby! However, facing Megill could be a daunting task given his recent form and how dominant he has been in home games.
On the flip side, while our Cubbies have put up decent numbers offensively, they’ve struggled historically against New York—especially recently where they’re just 3-9 against them over their last dozen matchups. The Mets aren’t just formidable—they’re thriving at home with a solid record and are crushing it lately with fourteen wins out of twenty-one games played!
This year has seen them managing close to five runs each game paired with strong hitting metrics (over eight hits per game). With them sitting as favorites (-152) in this one and coming off that strong victory against us previously (7-2), I can’t help but feel they’re poised for another big day.
So what can we expect? If history tells us anything—and I’m trying not to be biased here—we’re looking at another tough outing for my Cubbies today unless they can pull off some magic that we’ve seen before! I predict that we might see those bats come alive once again as both teams are scoring heavily; therefore, I’m calling it now: Mets take this one home again but expect plenty of runs on both sides—let’s go OVER on that total!
As much as it pains me to say it through my blue-and-red-tinted glasses—let’s see if our boys can prove me wrong tonight! Go Cubs go!
