Cleveland Guardians @ Chicago Cubs - July 1, 2025

Well, folks, it’s that time again! The excitement is palpable as the Chicago Cubs get ready to take on the Cleveland Guardians at Wrigley Field tonight. As a die-hard Cubs fan bleeding blue and red, let me tell you, my lucky jersey is already on – I can feel the energy coursing through me!

The Guardians are struggling a bit this season with a record hovering around .500 (40-41). They’re currently on a four-game losing streak and have not been looking like the powerhouse they once were. The offense just isn’t clicking for them lately, averaging only about 3.7 runs per game with a batting average of .222. Yikes! The pressure will be on their starter tonight; Gavin Williams has been decent with a 5-3 record and an ERA of around 4.0, but he’ll need to step up big time against our hot bats.

On the other side of the diamond, we’ve got our ace in the making taking the mound tonight: Matthew Boyd. With an impressive 7-3 record and a solid ERA under 3.9, Boyd has shown he knows how to keep opposing hitters off balance. His strikeout capability adds an extra edge when he’s feeling it! The Cubs’ lineup averages over 5.5 runs per game and boasts a team batting average of .251 – definitely more than enough to put some serious runs on the board if they stay patient at the plate.

Now I know what you’re thinking – what about that last matchup? Yeah, I hear ya! We took one on the chin against those Astros recently (2-0), but let’s not forget that every great team faces tough losses along their journey to greatness! This matchup against Cleveland feels like a golden opportunity to bounce back and shake off those recent woes.

The betting lines opened with us as -155 favorites for good reason! Our boys know how important home field advantage is at Wrigley. The energy from those bleachers makes all the difference when we start racking up those hits and sending runners home! And speaking of hitting, while we are slightly cold at home lately (2-5 ATS), we still have an incredible record here with 13 wins in our last 18 games at Wrigley Field.

Let’s talk totals for a second – it opened at 8.5, but I’m thinking this one might go UNDER based on both teams’ recent performances and pitching matchups. Between Boyd’s stellar form and Cleveland’s offensive struggles lately, it’s hard seeing this game turn into a run-fest.
