Michigan Wolverines vs. Ohio State Buckeyes Pick – NCAA Football Week 13

The Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes meet in the most highly anticipated regular season game this season. After the Wolverines won in Ann Arbor last year, The Game shifts to Columbus at the Horseshoe at Ohio State University. We have our best Michigan vs. Ohio State predictions and betting pick for Saturday afternoon.

Michigan were around a 7.5 to 8.5-point underdog last year at home. They didn’t need the points and won straight up. The Wolverines were able to get out their frustrations after years of losing to the Buckeyes in a 42-27 win.

The win sent Michigan to the Big Ten Championship and then the College Football Playoff after beating the Hawkeyes. Aidan Hutchinson played a big role for the Wolverines last year. He is on the field with the Detroit Lions doing well in his rookie campaign.

While Michigan lost Hutchinson, they’ve been just as good or better defensively this season. C.J. Stroud and the Buckeyes have to deal with another strong Michigan team in 2022. The Wolverines and Buckeyes are both a perfect 11-0 going into Columbus on Saturday afternoon.

Michigan and Ohio State had trap games last week and both teams looked a bit sluggish. The Wolverines needed to dig deep to beat Illinois at home, 19-17, while it took 4 quarters for Ohio State to pull away for a 43-30 win against Maryland.

Let’s not read too far into the near-loss from Michigan last week. The same goes for the slow start for the Buckeyes in Maryland. Both these teams were looking ahead and did just enough to survive.

Michigan vs. Ohio State Predictions

Michigan and Ohio State were pretty well equal this season. They both had a couple of close calls and didn’t look great at times. Ohio State just skated by with a 21-7 win over Northwestern, while Michigan had to hold on for a 34-27 win over Maryland in September.

If there is any game that separated Michigan and Ohio State was their performances against the Penn State Nittany Lions. The Wolverines dismantled Penn State by a score of 41-17 on October 15.

Meanwhile, C.J. Stroud looked confused at times in a game that could have gone better in a 44-31 win on October 29. It was an evenly played contest until the Buckeyes wore Penn State out in the 4th quarter.

Can Stroud Read Michigan Properly?

The biggest knack with Stroud is that he can lock on to one receiver too much. It is not a good habit to get into as a top NFL prospect. He has a big arm, but Stroud has to trust his other weapons other than Marvin Harrison Jr. some more.

His success in the NFL is likely to come down to the team that drafts him. Stroud has a lot to learn before he is a franchise quarterback at the next level. The Wolverines confused Stroud at times last season.

HAS TO GET TO HIS SECOND AND THIRD READ
Stroud passed for over 400 yards last year, but a lot of that was underneath throws and his receivers running after the catch. He has to get the ball into the secondary and not just rely on Harrison Jr.

When Stroud feels pressure, things can get interesting for him. Michigan has the talent to get pressure and contain Harrison Jr. Will Stroud and Ohio State make plays? For certain.

However, it is hard to see Ohio State moving the ball as they do against bad defenses. The Wolverines are first in college football with 241.3 yards allowed per game.

They are second against the run and fifth versus the pass. There is only one team in the nation that has allowed fewer points than Michigan per game. Despite losing Hutchinson, they are still getting after the quarterback.

Blake Corum Unavailable In The Game?

Corum was injured in the win over Illinois last weekend. His status is unknown for Saturday in Columbus. No. 2 running back, Donovan Edwards, was inactive against the Fighting Illini in that one.

Edwards should be good, while Corum is a bigger question mark. In any event, the Michigan offensive line is what really makes this offense go. There are future starters in the NFL here and this unit could be named the best in the nation.

Michigan is going to reveal nothing about Corum and Edwards until game time. Jim Harbaugh will leave Ryan Day guessing.

Michigan vs. Ohio State Betting Pick:

The key difference maker in this game has to be J.J. McCarthy. Cade McNamara did a good job for Michigan last year, but he lost the starting job to McCarthy.

McCarthy will give the Buckeyes more to think about as a passer and runner. He is more of a running threat than McNamara is at quarterback. The first-year starter has passed for 14 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on 66.8% completions.

He has also scored three times on the ground with an average of 4.3 yards per attempt. Ohio State is strong in the secondary, but they’ve had a tendency to get sloppy. Maryland and Penn State both had success on the Ohio State defense.

Ohio State should pull this one out, but it likely isn’t easy. Expect a classic at the Horseshoe on Saturday afternoon.

Our Michigan vs. Ohio State prediction is a 28-24 win for the Buckeyes, but cover for Michigan.
