North Texas is going through a transition period between the C-USA Championship Game and Frisco Bowl. Immediately after the 48-27 loss, North Texas head coach, Seth Littrell, was fired from the program.

How is that for a farewell? Reaching the conference championship game was not good enough for North Texas. He finished at North Texas with a career record of 44-44.

The Mean Green received a tough draw in this matchup against Boise State. This was not a good season by their standards, but the Broncos have won seven of their last nine games. Boise State enters the Frisco Bowl with a record of 9-4 in the regular season.

North Texas vs. Boise State Predictions

Boise State predictably made it to the Mountain West Championship Game. This was the fifth time in six years that Boise State reached the conference championship. It did not go according to plan, though, as Fresno State upset the Broncos as 3-point underdogs.

Broncos’ quarterback, Tayleen Green, made too many mistakes to get the win. Green passed for 175 yards with a touchdown and 2 interceptions. The defense played well, but the offense was setting the Bulldogs up with nice field position.

North Texas did not do anything right in the C-USA Championship Game. The defense was in its usual bad form, as UTSA scored 48 points in a blowout. Frank Harris passed for 341 yards and 4 touchdowns, while the running backs ran all over the Mean Green.

Head Coach Eric Morris Has A Defense To Fix

North Texas hired Washington State offensive coordinator Eric Morris as the new head coach. He better focus on the defense. Morris knows how to score points, but this defense needs a lot of fixing.

The Mean Green are one of the worst defenses in the country this season. They finished 124th in the regular season on defense. North Texas has allowed an average of 456.3 yards per game.

It has not mattered if the Mean Green are trying to stop a quarterback or running back. They are equally bad on the defensive side of the ball. North Texas is 115th vs the pass and 106th vs the run.

The defense is not going to be fixed in one game. This is going to be a process for the Mean Green. Boise State is not looking like a Kellen Moore or Brett Rypien offense, but they should control the ball.

Austin Aune Playing In The Frisco Bowl, Then Declaring For The NFL Draft

Instead of opting out of the Frisco Bowl, the 29-year-old North Texas quarterback is playing in his final collegiate game against Boise State. This could be an extra piece of film to add to his portfolio. A solid game would look good on tape against this defense.

Aune passed for 32 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, and 56.7% completions in the regular season. He needs to work on his accuracy. That will not go so well against a defense like the Broncos.

North Texas is all offense, as they’re 22nd in yards and 29th in points scored per game. However, they are up against an elite Boise State defense in the Frisco Bowl. The Broncos are fifth in the FBS, with 160.7 passing yards allowed per game.

North Texas vs. Boise State Betting Pick:

What happens when a good offense and elite defense meet? Chewing up bad C-USA defenses is one thing, but doing it against a secondary like Boise State is another. Usually, the defense has a better time in these situations.

Boise State will be without George Holani in the backfield, but expect their offensive line to control this matchup. The Broncos are 39th in the nation, with 187 rushing yards per game against a North Texas defense conceding almost 200 yards a game on the ground.

If North Texas is not moving the ball consistently — it is likely vs the Broncos — then the Mean Green are not going to have another plan to stay in this game. Expect Boise State to dominate the time of possession and grind away for a double-digit win.

Our North Texas vs. Boise State prediction is a 35-20 win and cover for the Broncos in the Frisco Bowl.
