Who Will Be The Worst NFL Team in 2022-23?

Worst 2022 2023 NFL Teams

As we inch toward the start of the 2022-23 NFL Regular Season, let’s continue our look at some of the more exotic Props and a couple from respected bookmakers like BetOnline.

The Last Team to Record a Win Regular Season and Worst Regular Season Record markets are creative and allows NFL bettors a look at the NFL’s 32 teams and the now 17-game Regular Season schedules from a different and entertaining betting angle.

Last Team to Record a Regular Season Win Odds

TeamOdds
Atlanta Falcons+450
Chicago Bears+500
Houston Texans+550
Seattle Seahawks+600
New York Jets+900
Carolina Panthers+900
New York Giants+900
Pittsburgh Steelers+900
Detroit Lions+1200

In 2021, the team who went the longest into the season without a Win was the Lions, with Detroit starting off with an 0-10-1 mark with Jared Goff and the Lions winning their first game in Week 13 vs. the Vikings at Home in Detroit, 29-27—on Sunday, December 5.

Detroit would finish a 3-13-1 and after an 0-3 Preseason in 2021, were 3-16-1 in its last 17 overall and watching their former starting QB winning a Super Bowl on the Left Coast.

NFL betting odds from BetOnline see Detroit at 12/1 odds to be the last team to record a Win Regular Season, and with a favorable schedule, it’s hard to expect the Lions to repeat that feat again this 2022-23 NFL Regular Season and a .500 year in Motown is possible.

One bad team to consider in this market and always in the worst NFL team conversation are the Jaguars, who despite having Clemson buddies Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne, have still gone a combined 4-29-0 in their last 33 Regular Season games in two seasons.

Jacksonville was also 5-12-0 ATS last season, but a Week 5 game against Houston (4-13-0 in 2021) at Home makes backing Jacksonville (0-4 Preseason) questionable because of the Site. Lawrence, Etienne, and the Jaguars were a winless 0-8 on the Road last season. And the Texans (4-13) are in the running to be the Last Team to Record a Win Regular Season as well as have the Worst Regular Season Record and the loser of that Jaguars-Texans game may be in really bad shape heading into Week 6.

Houston faces Indianapolis, Denver, Chicago, the LA Chargers, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, Tennessee, and Philadelphia before meeting the lowly Giants at the Meadowlands in Week 10, another team with further worst NFL team odds observation needed.

The Giants face Chicago, Jacksonville, and Houston in three of their first 10 games, so it’s too hard to want to take a chance fading (or in this case betting on) the G-Men to be the last NFL team to win a game this 2021-22 NFL Regular season at these 9/1 betting odds. But one Big Apple team definitely worth consideration in the Last Team to Record a Win Regular Season in the Jets (9/1 to be Last Team to Win a Regular Season Game), the New York AFC historically one of the louisest teams in the league and seldom improving.

Last season, Gang Green went 4-13-0, and NY has gone a combined 6-27-0 these last two NFL seasons, and like many of these teams that suck, the Jets also lost money for their betting backers, going 6-11-0 Against The Spread (ATS). Jacksonville was 5-12-0 ATS.

Worst Regular Season Record May Also Be Grounded Jets

The worst NFL team 2021 award went to the Jacksonville Jaguars, who went 3-14-0 and earned this dubious honor by just ½ game after the Steelers ended up tying with the Lions (3-13-1) who ended up with one less Loss than Trevor Lawrence and the clawless cats.

Could the Jaguars have the worst Regular Season Record again? Jacksonville (12/1 to have the worst Regular Season record) sent Head Coach Urban Meyer packing and brought in Doug Pederson but this team was winless on the Road and had a -202 PD. One good thing for Jacksonville is it plays the Texans twice, and the Commanders (Week 1), Giants, and Jets, so ending with more than the 3 Wins the Jaguars (0-4 Preseason) had last year seems possible but still may not end up being the worst NFL team.

If the worst NFL team in 2021 ends up being the same as the worst NFL team in 2022, the will be trouble in Jacksonville as this team has the young franchise QB it needs, has had the Draft Picks, and plays in a Division (AFC South) where Wins are out there to be had.

Jacksonville has gone 4-29 in its last 33 games, so taking the worst NFL team odds at the current 12/1 with the Jaguars seems wise, but remember that the Falcons, Texans, Jets, Giants and others are all also expected to have down 2022-23 NFL Regular Seasons.

The Falcons (4/1 to have the worst Regular Season record) are the oddsmakers favorites to finish with the worst Regular Season record and last year, Atlanta went 7-10-0 after a 4-12-0 season in 2020, the the Dirty Birds have gone a combined 11-22-0 in two seasons. One reason it’s hard to immediately jump on Atlanta at 4/1—it looks like the Falcons may have 4 shots at Wins vs the Browns, Bears, and Commanders—and a team that may win only 2 games is because of the Jets, a team that also could win 2, 1 or maybe even 0 games.

QB Zach Wilson and the Jets (6-11-0 ATS in 2021) have gone 6-27-0 over the past two NFL Regular Seasons and although Gang Green plays in a weaker division than the Falcons, both of these teams may struggle to win 2 games this year so the odds matter.

The Worst NFL Team in 2022: J-E-T-S, Jets! Jets! Jets!

The Jets (9/1 to have the worst Regular Season record) have appealing worst NFL team odds in a market where the worst NFL team 2021, the Jaguars, the Falcons, the Texans, the Giants, and maybe the Seahawks, Panthers, Lions, and Bears.

But bettor beware as in this worst NFL team Futures market market doesn’t include the NFC East’s Giants (-8 TO Margin) or Commanders (-5 TO Margin). There seem to be four teams in contention for the worst NFL team, three in the AFC and one in the NFC. The Jaguars (NFL-worst -20 TO Margin in 2021), Texans, and Jets (-13 TO) in the AFC and the Falcons (-6 TO Margin) in the NFC all seem destined for long Losing Streaks and issues in 2022 although Jacksonville may surprise with a new Head Coach in town. Or not.

I’m sticking with the Jets to win the least and suck the most, and there only seem like two legit spots on their schedule where a Win might be possible: Week 15 vs. Detroit (3-13-1 in 2021) and Week 16 vs. the Jaguars (series 8-8), both at Home in the Meadowlands.

Having to face the four members of the AFC North (BAL, CLE, CIN, PIT) in Weeks 1-4 is pretty brutal, and Weeks 5-9 aren’t kind either (MIA, GB, DEN, NE, BUF) and the Bye in Week 10 is easily Gang Green’s favorite opponent in the Fall.

After that Bye, New York may be 0-9 and then NE, Chicago, Minnesota, and Buffalo await in Weeks 11-14 and the Weeks 15-18 seem like a respite for New York AFC with those aforementioned Lions and Jaguars at Home, and Road games Miami and Seattle. A 2-15 record is possible and the Jets-Jaguars and the two Jaguars games against the Texans amay go a long way to determining who has the worst Record, and more than one franchise can be the worst NFL team, and “the worst” may sometimes be subjective.

Like the Super Bowl champions, the worst NFL team usually changes from season to season, with the usual suspects fighting to be worst and sometimes losing on purpose lat in Regular Seasons in order to increase chances of getting that #1 pick in the NFL Draft.

The Jets don’t seem to possess any great Homefield Advantage, don’t have a great starting QB, had the worst Defense in the NFL last season (29.6 ppg), scored Points like it hurt (18.2 ppg, #28), give the ball away, and are a team no one is scared of ever playing.

Is an 0-17 season possible for the Jets?

Only five teams have ever gone winless in the NFL—the Cowboys in 1960, the Buccaneers in 1976, the (Baltimore) Colts in 1982, the Lions in 2008, and the Browns in 2017—so odds are against an 0-17 Regular Season.
