Cameron Boozer enters his freshman campaign at Duke with a ton of hype and every reason to believe he’s about to live up to it. The 18-year-old phenom, son of former NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer, put up staggering numbers during Duke’s exhibition slate, averaging 28.5 points and 17.5 boards against UCF and Tennessee.

Now, he gets his first regular season test against a Texas squad that simply doesn’t have the size or physicality to deal with him inside.

The Longhorns are going to struggle to keep Boozer off the glass and out of the paint, and Duke will look to feed him early and often to set the tone. With Boozer’s polished post game, motor, and scoring instincts already on full display in preseason play, it’s tough to see him coming out flat in his debut.

The prop line is sitting at 19.5 points, but this has the look of a 23 to 25-point performance. At -125, the over is well worth a spot on your college basketball prop picks.

Texas may not have the size to go toe-to-toe with Duke in the paint, but they’ve got a shot if the backcourt shows up, and Jordan Pope is the key piece in that equation. The sophomore guard is expected to carry more of the scoring load this season, and his trajectory suggests he’s ready for the bump in usage.

Pope averaged 11 points per game last year on a clean 43.5% shooting clip. More importantly, he closed strong, putting up at least 13 points in three of his final four contests, including postseason play. That late-season surge showed flashes of a guard gaining confidence and growing into a lead role.

With the defense keyed in on Cameron Boozer, perimeter looks should be there for Pope. If Texas is going to hang around, it’ll be because he gets going. The 11.5-point line feels a touch too light here, making the over at -120 a sharp way to back Pope in a primetime spot.
