Best Bets for the Europa League Today, April 9 (With Reasoning)

Here are the detailed versions of my EL best bets for today, April 9.

Porto vs. Nottingham Forest: Over 2.5 Goals (+120)

The main totals line for the clash between Porto and Nottingham Forest is set at 2.25 goals, which I find surprising. Sure, the Portuguese team has been amazing defensively in their domestic league, only allowing 13 goals in 28 goals.

However, the Europe League has been a different story. Porto allowed 7 goals in the group stage and looked vulnerable at times against Stuttgart in the knockouts. The Germans failed to capitalize more than once, but the chances were there for the taking.

Nottingham Forest are certainly a team capable of taking full advantage of any mistakes. They are still not very efficient, but the team creates plenty of chances. They scored three goals against Spurs, as well as two against Man City and FC Midtjylland recently. There also blank against the Danes and Fulham, but on both occasions, Forest had good opportunities.

At the same time, the team is allowing goals, too. That doesn’t bode well against a Porto side that has scored two or more goals in six consecutive games.

I see more than enough reasons to expect goals here, so grabbing that +120 for over 2.5 is one of the best Europa League betting picks for April 9.

The Bet
Over 2.5 Goals
+120

Bologna vs. Aston Villa: Aston Villa +0 (-148)

Aston Villa might’ve been inconsistent in the Premier League this calendar year, but the results in the Europa League have been almost flawless. The English side finished second in the group stage with 7 wins and 1 defeat and then beat Lyon 3-0 on aggregate in the first round of the knockouts.

That’s exactly what you should expect from the head coach with the most Europa League titles in history. Unai Emery’s teams always dominate this competition, so I won’t be shocked at all if Aston Villa win this year.

The team looks strong at the back and dangerous on the other end. On top of that, Villa is very good at controlling the tempo and managing games well.

That would be critical against a chaotic Bologna side that just eliminated Roma by a 5-4 aggregate score. The team is sitting in the middle of the Serie A table, which means the Europa League will be the main priority by the end of the season.

This is the only reason I prefer to play it safe. Villa are the better side here and should get a result, but I prefer to back them at 0 AH (also known as “draw no bet”), available at the reasonable odds of -140.

The Bet
Aston Villa +0 (DRAW NO BET)
-130
