New York Knicks – Can the Knicks Keep the Cup in the East?
The Knicks reached the NBA In-Season Tournament final on the back of a massive game from Jalen Brunson. The former Villanova product poured in 40 points and added eight assists in a 132-120 win over Orlando, as the Knicks rode their starting five.
The starters scored all but 11 points for the Knicks, led by their talisman.

Karl-Anthony Towns had one of his best games of the season with 29 points and eight rebounds, and also had a great game defensively. OG Anunoby had 24 points for the Knicks, who shot 61% from the field.
The Knicks are second in offensive rating, and 11th in defensive rating, so they’re a team that leans on their attack. Much of that falls on Brunson, who has scored 30 points or more in each of his last four games. However, he’ll need some help against a deep San Antonio team, and that means Towns will have to play a big role in a potential win.
After two straight quarterfinal exits, the Knicks have made it to the NBA Cup final. But can they make it count?
San Antonio Spurs – Will “Wemby” Lead the Spurs to Another Statement Win?
Victor Wembanyama returned to the lineup after a month because of a calf injury, and even came off the bench. But he was the difference-maker for the Spurs in a 111-109 win over Oklahoma City, who suffered just their second loss of the season! “Wemby” played just 21 minutes, but he had 22 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.

Devin Vassell had 23 points, while De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle had 22 points each for the Spurs, who held the Thunder to 41% shooting, and 24% from three-point land. The defense had to be at their best, as San Antonio only shot 41%, and 31% from beyond the arc. Much of the defensive improvement has to do with Wembanyama, who was excellent in his duel with OKC’s Chet Holmgren.
The Spurs are 14th in defensive rating on the season, at 113.8 points. Without Wembanyama, they’re at 117.7 points per 100 possessions. With the “Alien” on the court, they’re at 112.3 points. Just his presence causes the other team to rethink their offense. But the Spurs also have to be careful that they don’t overwork “Wemby” and cause another injury.
Still, beating the Thunder is extremely impressive, and the Spurs are a live underdog on Tuesday night in Las Vegas!

This will be the first meeting of the season between the Knicks and Spurs, although they split a pair of games last season. But I’m taking the San Antonio Spurs in my 2025 NBA Cup prediction!
