Dallas Wings (+215) vs. Las Vegas Aces

The Wings (1-10) got Paige Bueckers back in a 93-80 loss at Phoenix, but the rookie star did her part. Bueckers had 35 points, six rebounds, and four assists to lead the way, but the issue was the Wings’ defense.

Phoenix shot 50% from the floor, and hit 15 of their 35 three-point attempts. Dallas is 11th in the league in defensive rating, and is the biggest culprit for their slow start to the season.

However, the Aces (4-4) haven’t been much better, ranking ninth in defensive rating. They gave up 95 points in a road loss to the expansion Golden State Valkyries on June 7, and then 97 points in a loss to Los Angeles at home.

More impactful in that Sparks’ loss is an injury to A’ja Wilson. The three-time (and reigning) WNBA MVP was hit in the head on a Dearica Hamby drive and had to leave the game. She is doubtful for Friday’s matchup at home against Dallas, in which the Aces are 6.5-point favorites.

I’m leaning towards the upset and taking the Dallas moneyline of +215 on the road! If Wilson isn’t playing, it’s a massive loss for the Aces. Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray will have to shoot more, and they’ll need a big game from Jewell Loyd, who has struggled since joining the Aces in February. Loyd is averaging just 9.1 points with 4.1 rebounds, and shooting 29.9% from the field.

Wilson is also their best defender, so the Aces might have trouble slowing down Bueckers and the Dallas offense.

The Wings are seventh in offensive rating, just ahead of Las Vegas, who are playing Dallas for the first time this season. I can see Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale having big nights in Las Vegas to get their second win of the season. Let’s take the Wings’ return of +215 in Vegas on Friday night!
